Garen's "Spin to Win"

For as long as Garen has been in the game, his E has relatively stayed the same. While I haven't played League in many years, I know that a fed Garen can quickly turn the tides of a teamfight singlehandedly with this spell. I believe it finally deserves a **mechanical ** change that still keeps his original aesthetics but changes the skill's core gameplay. By changing Garen's E to an auto-attack changing skill, similarly to that of Irelia, Chogath, Nautilus, and MasterYi's skills, he will still be able to have his "spinning" appearance in certain cases while also requiring the player to either kite or stay as close as possible to their opponent, creating a higher skill cap. What I mean by this is that with a design where his E's auto-attacks cause him to attack with a spinning motion, both through horizontal and diagonal strikes, he will withhold his old playstyle. This will, in tandem with his Q, allow his attacks to cause more damage to his target while damaging other opponents within his spin's range. To keep his aesthetic of a continuous spin, develop it so that during the duration of the skill, he gains a massive AS buff while losing a percentage of his damage dealt. Players will then have the possibility to create some hilarious on-hit builds to have him spin like crazy while demolishing their target. Because of all this, players will find Garen more attractive to play due to his broader range of builds than just tank or damage. Just for fun, and a potential escape/gap closer, before the skill ends, make it so players can recast the skill to do a leaping vertical spin (like his Q but way more epic) in the direction targeted or in which he is moving (by physically clicking the icon), adding even more depth to his potential in duels. However, changing his E will be seen to some as a good riddance and to others as a farewell to their long-standing friend. To avoid a situation like this, develop a minigame that utilizes his old spin, and potentially Darius 's old spin in tandem with other champions that have interesting or fun spinning skills in a way that could be similar to URF but with only spinning champions (Just having those old skills in URF would be amazing too). Overall this would be a great change for Garen, one of the poster boys of League of Legends, to make him more viable, enjoyable, exciting, and interesting to play.

Sincerely, Lamorak

P.S. This would be edgy as shit, cough cough, Kayn

they dont need to change his kit to increase his skill ceiling. there are a lot more subtle improvements they could do and that are highly underestimated. mostly connected to his animations and animation cancelling mechanics.

Garen's spin got a huge change in season 5, so if you missed that you may want to read up first.

As it is now, compared to old Garen, his spin starts out with less damage ticks than before, but gains more as he levels up. If he hits enemies with four ticks of damage he reduces their armor for a little bit, and with the introduction of the true damage passive on his ultimate each tick of damage does the same true damage as an auto attack does against the villain.

Now, Garen is not a mechanical champion. He never was, and honestly never should be. He is fully a knowledge based champion, and requires heavy macro play rather than micro play to stay useful. It's an older style, but one I feel still has a place in League today. Considering some people still one trick him into very high elo I'd say I'm not the only one. Your change goes against what Garen's entire design is based on, and while it's definitely an interesting idea I'm against any change that aims to increase his micro play at the expense of his current macro play requirement.

I've been playing Garen since I started in season 1, and if a change hit his gameplay identity as hard as yours would I might have to find a new main.

Thanks for the great constructive criticism! I hope RIOT will potentially keep a similar design to this in mind for a future champion. Such as something like Volibear's ult. Sorry, I'm just not the biggest fan of super simplistic designs like Annie.
