How do I play as Thresh or Janna?

I've been thinking about trying to learn how to play support, however the only one that I have experience playing as is Blitzcrank. I have played asJanna a little bit, but I still don't understand how to play as her that well. I've only played as Thresh maybe once or twice, and the only reason is because I know that his Q is similar to Blitzcrank. I need help knowing how to play as support, especially Janna and Thresh. Also, if I could be told some good support champs and how to play as them with some builds, that would really be appreciated.

With Thresh you dip out of bushes to slap people with your empowered E auto attacks, then walk back into the bush to drop aggro, then repeat. While everyone uses Relic Shield there's no harm in taking Ancient Coin if you're new to him, it gives you less stuff to worry about. Beyond that he's incredibly flexible with what to build, although I've always slapped a Frozen Heart into my support builds somewhere for that delicious 20% CDR

look at one of my smurfs, moooose2 or moooose3. for builds. feel free to watch their replays as well. tilted a bit on moooose2 but watch anything before like a week ago and you should be fine. Have probably a thousand or so games on thresh over my 5 accounts, highest is d1. LMK if you have any other thresh questions lol.

For Janna, E your carry when they're trading with the enemy and/or when they're being poked. Ideally when the AA's are already in the air to avoid telegraphing things too much. Max E first. Your Q is mainly for interrupting dashes and most of the time you should be saving it for that. Max W second for the passive move speed and also being able to slow people. Ult is usually going to be used primarily for peeling instead of healing. Be very mindful of where you're pushing everyone with your ult though, occasionally bad Jannas will unintentionally save enemys, or even push enemies towards a different carry. (I recommend against ever trying flash-ult engages. It's rarely a good idea imo, and while there are rare occasions when it is appropriate, most of the time you'll just end up in a bad position without your flash and ult.)

Well um, what exactly are you tying to learn about them? Because there's a lot you can cover.

I'm just trying to find out a build for each and what abilities to max when

probuilds.net is a pretty good resource to see what pros are building/skilling on any given champ, along with runes/masteries.

It won't tell you 'how' to play them, or why they're building what they are, but it can be a good at a glance source for skilling orders/builds.

My order on thresh is e q e/w depending on if i think i might get ganked, if i put 2 in e early, ill get w level 4 then max q, then max w, then max e. For items, go relic shield start, finish face of the mountain get locket/frozen heart/redemption/mobis/sightstone. As an example build.

I've tried going relic on thresh, but I can never last hit minions low enough to get it to go off, so I will probably go ancient coin, but other than that I can try that build.

Coin is fine on thresh as well. I like face of the mountain more than amulet of ascension or whatever it's called. So I'd just get the coin sightstone item most games unless your comp needs movespeed badly. Sorry for late response haven't been on in a while.

Janna is hard to make plays with. She's good at interrupting the enemy attacking and the plays they try to make. The biggest problem I see with thresh is they always buy relic shield but always are really bad at using it. Consider the coin if you're not good at last hitting with very small damage, or left click on minions so you see their exact health and know when to hit. My biggest pet peeve as adc is when supports play a hook champion and only go for it like 3 times the entire laning phase. You're a play maker; don't always wait for them to come to you because it doesn't happen often.

Another support I like to play is braum. He is very defensive and works as a great counter to hook champs since you can jump and shield the adc when they're hooked, and he can make a good counter attack with passive and q slow. If you need a mage support, Zyra is really good since she has high damage that you can win the lane by yourself because some times adcs just refuse to do anything.

To improve at the role, I'd suggest playing adc. Playing adc has made me understand what a support should do and made me a lot better at the role and vise versa.
