@RiotRepertoir 5 Changes that would make Wukong better without completely destroying his kit.
I've mained Wukong to diamond twice. I have well over a thousand games with him. I honestly think Riot did a great job designing him and his kit feels really satisfying to play. But at the same time, Wukong feels a little feed or famine in the current meta. Here are 5 changes I think would help my favorite champion.
Reduce his W cooldown Wukong's W is a weird ability. You can use it to juke, you must use it to engage, and you will hardly ever use it to escape. Part of the reason Wukong is so bad to play right now is he gets deleted as a penalty for doing his job, assassinating. By reducing Wukong's W cool-down, he could W in a fight, kill the AD carry, then if he manages to survive 1-2 seconds, W out again in search of another target or to make an escape. This gives him survivability in fights without making him tanky per-say.
Change his W animation Wukong's W is super easy to spot. This is because it spawns a copy that abruptly stops in a sort of "stuttering" motion. Faking a clone by pressing S is more of a smooth movement. 90% of the time players can tell if you are faking your clone just by watching the animation. By making the stop animation and Wukong's W animation match perfectly, you can eliminate this problem. This, combined with a much lower cool-down on the W will finally make it the tricky mind-game ability to was meant to be.
Have Wukong heal for a percentage of the damage his clone takes This is the thing I believe will finally make Wukong viable in the top lane. Right now he loses to everyone but Gnar because his trades are just that bad. By giving Wukong the chance to heal off damage his clone takes you are not only rewarding good usage of the clone in early fights, but almost giving him the ability to keep up with the extended trades champions like Flora and Darius are able to make.
Change his ultimate tickrate Wukong's ult is unreliable after the initial damage and knockup. In some situations it's better to just auto-attack rather than let it finish channeling and I think that this is unacceptable for any champions ultimate. Part of the reason this is so is the tickrate. It ticks once every second meaning those clutch kills that you should have gotten on an ADC or mage sometimes don't happen because the tickrate was a few fractions of a second too late. Make the ult tick more often. The instant a champion walks into his ult is the instant they should take damage, and they should continuously take damage for as long as they are inside.
Passive Change - Wukong gains %20 of his current MR and Armor as bonus stats for 5 seconds for every person caught in his ult within 1 second of it's activation This passive is basically identical to Wukong's current passive, only more effective and without the penalty of getting weaker as the enemy team gets smaller. It gives him actual tankiness in his kit, and rewards him for landing a huge ultimate in fights. This, combined with healing on the W will make Cleaver bruiser/tank Wukong finally a thing again. He won't be that CC tank that champions like Naut and Chogath are, but a slippery front-liner that is hard to kill and is constantly going into stealth and shredding the enemy teams armor with cleaver and his Q. Since assassin Wukong doesn't build resistances and instead stacks MS and Lethality, it hardly effects that style of gameplay at all.
I know riot has tons of incredibly smart people working on this game and half of this stuff has probably already been thought of, but these are just my ideas. I hope you take something from them and feel free to leave your thoughts, id love to hear them.
