Support Item Changes - One Fix

The support item changes went through today, and I'm still extremely dismayed by how it was handled. Instead of delaying the changes for a patch to make sure they could at least bring back the actives those of us who built them (who are now 100% forced into a worse version of Eye items) they said "well, supports will deal with it" and kept going. Old quests, gone. Fully completed items (actives and Ruby item cooldown) also gone. There's an entire board post full of supports begging for at least some adjustments. The quest line that used to be so satisfying to fulfill is now "congrats, here's your Sightstone guys!" The difference between starting items is how you get gold... and that's it. There is no reason to change your option depending on your team. Why even consider getting Spell Thief's when you can get gold easier with Coin?

Essentially what it boils down to is the new support items are Sightstone and if you want that old active you'll have to spend even more for a full item when it comes back. Not to mention it will still be inferior without the quest passive. The changes that were made in the name of "build diversity" just made it so you have to have Eye items, and with a fair amount of games, you will never actually get to build the last full item.

A recent gameplay thoughts was talking about top lane, and it had a chart of role popularity. You know why support is the lowest on every chart? Partially due to the nature of not being the one getting the glory of a pentakill, but a decent chunk of that is the fact anytime supports get something nice, other roles abuse it and then it gets nerfed to the ground never to be spoken of again.

So please, if nothing else, give us our old quests back on gold gen items. Put it at a full thousand gold earned, because of any support main I have ever talked to said they liked the quests as one of the highlights. I love the vision game, I have a screen shot of the first time I got 200 ward score. Part of what contributed to that was having the actives from the tier 3 support items so that I could safely ward.

For now I think I'll tuck my support champions away, and hope that somehow there is something given back to supports soon. I cannot imagine the hell that would rain down on the boards if all junglers had to use only Tracker's Knife while the jungle items got revamped suddenly.

I love everything that you have brought up here and I support all of it. What you mentioned about giving supports things and then others abusing them ruins gameplay and it can be fixed other ways rather than just shoving not so well thought out ideas down support throats.

You have my vote.

This echoes my grievances with the changes 150%. I even said i wouldn't mind if they put the old quests back even if they had to push em to 1000g. I really wouldn't. At least then i'd have something to look forward to.

And my sentiments are the same. Guess it's back to midlane for me. :/

What I think they should have done was implement a 2-part quest, the first part would give you sightstone and the second part would give you the quest passive. Or the quest could literally give you a sightstone, which you could then upgrade into ruby sightstone or combine to make an Eye item. At the very least I want the CS penalty from spellthief's gone after the quest. I miss being able to push as support without losing out on gold and damage. :(

Sorry, but I support main and the current items are fine. My Nami feels a tad slower, but I have no problems building up at all, and I'm still not dying much, and I only have to invest 800g into a Sightstone item instead of some 1900+ I Think that's super fair, and it gets teams off your back for only building to Tier 2. Imo, It's worth every gold compared to the old versions.

Just threw up a 2/5/26 Nami with 34k heals and 28 wards in a 35 min game.
