Easily Fixable Flaws
Hello, my name is folinum, and over three accounts in different regions, I have 8000+ games. I have 1300 hours in CSGO, 1200 hours in TF2, 200 hours in PUBG, and 2000 hours in Super Smash Brothers. I feel like at this point, I have enough experience to tell what's wrong with the game. Another title for this post could be: Why Players of Other Games Laugh At Us
- Pervasive, Game Losing/Winning Bugs
A few quick examples would be the fact that J4 can e q while rooted/grounded, Tristana has a window in her w where it will still go through despite her being stunned, and Hail of Blades sometimes doesn't procc on the first auto attack. There's at least dozens more.
- Ambiguous Hitboxes
This is especially prevalent when it comes to proximity, such as with tower range, Caitlyn, Jhin, and Nidalee traps. There's no easy way to find champions hitboxes.
- Lack of Voice Chat
The idea that in a MOBA, where you need to use your hands to play, the only way to communicate is through vague pings, and stopping to type, is laughable. No other serious team game has this issue, and there's no reason that League should either.
- Solo/Duo is the dominant competitive proving ground.
A team game wherein you need to rely on the good will of at least 3 other players. This is insane. I just can't understand how this could ever be considered a good benchmark of a players skill. Teamwork is half of this game. Without a set of premades, there's no way to tell how good players are at teamwork, and a gigantic portion of the skill is left without representation.
- Minion Block
Minion collision is still, after 10 years, incredibly broken. Although this may be put under number 1, I feel like it has a bit more of a damaging effect on the game than all the other bugs combined.
- Random Crits
Random crits have no place in a game with a competitive mode that's taken as seriously as it is, where players can win and lose games off of a single kill.
- Lack of Punishment For Champ Select
I've never, ever, seen anyone get punished for banning someones pick during the draft. In fact, why is banning someones pick even an option? It just doesn't make any sense. People seem to get away with just about anything in their, from the aforementioned to threatening to int.
- Power Creep
Riot feels the need to constantly release stronger and more overloaded champions. Less is more. The game was better without Zoe, Neeko, the new Akali, Sylas, Pyke, the new Aatrox, Camille, and Kai'Sa in the game. Their kits are incredibly overloaded, for seemingly no reason at all. They outshine all other champions to a degree that just isn't healthy.
- Lack of Simple, Easy Ways For New Players To Learn
The tutorial may be enough to show basic mechanics, but there's no built in way to learn the vital strategy that players need to understand and play this game. Minion macro, rotations, cooldown timings, jungle pathing warding effectively, and understanding the disgustingly roundabout communication. Enemy has vision here isn't even automatically bound!
Players are expected to see it, realize that a teammate did that on purpose and that it wasn't a result of the vision plant, and go in and bind it themselves. There's no easy way for them to learn what they can ping in the game, such as health, mana, experience, gold, and ability cooldowns. Enemy has vision here isn't even automatically bound. Never mind WHEN they should do all these things, they don't even know they can. New players are expected to grind out hundreds of games to learn the basics, the groundwork, of the game.
As time goes on, and new champions are released, it will become more and more difficult for new players to understand the game, and they'll have to spend more and more time on it, until eventually more and more players quit before understanding the game.
- Extremely High Costs For Champions
I have 2000 hours on one of my accounts, and I still don't have every champion. That's insane. That players should have to grind out hundreds of hours to be able to regularly play only a fraction of the champions if they don't want to spend hundreds of dollars is absolutely ridiculous.
End List
This game could be the best game in the world and a household name if Riot didn't stop shooting themselves in the foot with their ridiculous policies. None of these are new issues that have never been explored, Riot is just absolutely deaf to their community, and has no respect for them. I love League of Legends. It's my favorite game. I just think it should be everyone else's too.
