Riven Nerfs need to be reverted ASAP

Riven was and still is one of my favorite champions but this season its practically impossible to make her work. Her ultimate has been overnerfed to the ground especially considering that these nerfs where meant for season 5 which they still hurt a bit but i guess they weren't that gamechanging. This is what riot said regarding the nerfs:

Riven's a champion that's equal parts impressive and frustrating when she succeeds, turning the battle lines into a blur of knock-ups and danger pings, leaving her opponents without many options. For a champion whose 3 basic abilities are so powerful on their own, Blade of the Exile's cooldown's always been finely tuned in concert with her access to cooldown reduction. Now, however, with the growing popularity of things like cooldown runes and The Black Cleaver, it's never been easier for Riven to hit the 40% cap and start breaking the laws of physics.

Increasing the cooldown of Riven's ultimate won't move the needle too much once she reaches that point, but stretches enough of her engagement window to make a difference in the skirmishes and scraps Riven's face along the way to make-or-break her snowball.

After this when season 6 came out : #1 Brutalizer removed <--- This small item gone hurts her waaaay more than you might think. #2 Black Cleaver cost increased #3 CDR boots - 5% #4 No 5% CDR in masteries, (You could go Cunning masteries but dont think its worth losing all the damage)

Games now are much faster than ever and games are usually snowballing out of control way before you get lvl 2 ult yet alone get the items for CDR cap. Previously runes, boots and brutalizer were the only items needed for cap, therefore the nerfs which is understandable. This season you need a whole item which is really expensive (Black cleaver) and boots or if you don't like going black cleaver you need boots, a whole item and yet another small item to reach cap. That's like 3000+ more gold than you needed before for cap. And as if all this wasn't enough, you delay your most core item (Ravenous Hydra) which is also nerfed a lot and more expensive than before or you can choose to rush it and play the game having a 130 cd ult, while champions like irelia are way stronger without even considering her ult but hers is ok to be on a 70 second CD.

Riot might be planning something for her since we see a +1 health regen to her on pbe, which is basically meaningless and needs way more than that. Even in season 5 she wasn't that strong, a lot of people complained about her being OP especially the lower elos just because of her outplay potential and sometimes 1v2 early on but that whats she needs to be relevant later on. Her winrate back then wasn't anywhere near the 55%'s you see right now. It was perfectly balanced at around 50% and now its close to even being 40%. She is in the bottom 3 winrate champs along with ryze and nidalee which i admit even though i hated nidalee in the past its somewhat the same case with her now, a bit overnerfed. On the other hand ryze on the hands of someone who is good with him can be a monster but this isnt the same case with riven. No matter how perfectly you play her, you might become slightly ok for your team but never close to as good as any other champion, including even Taric which is ridiculously strong toplane right now.

She needs to be tuned for this season really badly. Riot please do not neglect this!!!

No thanks, i doubt im not the only peron that doesnt miss seeing her in every other game.

But ofc due to her popularity she will be buffed to the extremes once again...

Btw cant you just get cdr capped with boots cleaver and eother runes/ghostblade?

What are you talking about, she was barely played even in season 5. And yes you can get cap with runes boots and black cleaver but you miss out on getting hydra, her core item early on. Before you just went boots, brutalizer and hydra. I even forgot to mention that Armor pen got nerfed a lot so your argument makes no sense and she was never buffed to the extremes.

She became an oppressive monster at the end of the season...

Thats why you always saw her picked in competitive play, especially worlds.

Well i guess you missed the games in which she was played...

Lulu mid is a highly contested pick in the pro scene but its a rarity in solo que. Soraka is a dominant force in solo que but saw no play in the pro scene.

Your arguement is invalid.

Uhhh what? she was one of top 10 most played champions in season 5.

You are either lying by pretending you don't know or are very dumb.

Maybe im dumb because besides myself i saw her like once in 20 games. Might be different in silver i guess.

I wasn't arguing with anyone and if you think that's the case i don't mind you thinking you won it so I'm glad to see you go.

Good day.

She contested being the most played top laner consistently, with Irelia and Renekton in plat and up.

There's actual data on this.

Dteach1 votes

Ok so i might be wrong on the actually popularity, but that is because she is really fun to play. Not like she was anywhere near the highest winrates in season 5

Dreadlocks5 votes

run 10% in runes, 10% boots 20% black cleaver, done.

Dteach2 votes

Yes that is the best thing right now and that's what i do but you still delay your hydra way to much and isn't nearly as good as previous season.

Dreadlocks1 votes

just get the Tiamat, which is really cheap, you can still combo with tiamat, thats whats important.

Dteach1 votes

Yes that is quite important. The AOE lifesteal is really way more important than that though for the sustain, considering potions cost more. Plus she loses almost all trades vs current meta toplaners so you really need the sustain.

Dreadlocks2 votes

By the time you had the gold for Hydra, the lane would've been decided regardless.

Dteach1 votes

Not really, Season 5 you used to get a power spike with hydra and get an advantage to decide the lane then.

Dreadlocks1 votes

no in season 5 you rushed brut and cdr boots

Dteach1 votes

Yes those are cheap as hell so after that Hydra was your 1st item and had 40% cdr

Dreadlocks1 votes

1337 + 1000 = 2337 gold, which is still a solid chunk of gold, plus tiamat was 1900. My point is, you arn't reaching Hydra any sooner.

I agree that Riven needs a little love. Part of the reason for all of her previous nerfs were power creep issues. Essentially meta changed and changes to other champions caused her to be slightly powerful in comparison, masteries were very good for riven since it gave CD, % damage increase on spell cast, and a whole bunch of damage increases. Now with the removal of riven's core item build path (brutalizer) and the increase in cost of riven's main items (hydra, black cleaver) riven who was an early game snow ball takes way to long to get going. The masteries no longer aid her build ect and some of the more recent nerfs were to address her achieveing max CDR really early, which is now impossible due to the previous reasons (5% loss of CDR in mastery and 10% from brut). Riven's power was from being able to cast her abilities fast and strong, but she is no longer able to achieve that.

Nicely said!

I haven't really tried Riven in the new meta yet, so theory crafting here.....but wouldn't thunderlords decree be godlike on her? She builds a ton of ad and would proc it VERY easily, leading to even better trades than she is already capable of. I'm thinking 12/18/0 on her, since the ferocity keystones aren't particularly good.

Yea, brutalizer is gone and that sucks. But we did get death's dance which is a VERY powerful item on Riven, and QSS got major buffs making it a less punishing pickup as well. I also did see a buff to her heath regen on the pbe a few cycles back, it looks like they are finally reverting at least that nerf to her sustain.

Dteach2 votes

New QSS is indeed really good but this is if you pass the early stage of the game which you usually lose before even getting you core items. Getting deaths dance means you would have to drop black cleaver because you would go over cap, meaning you would have to get boots, that and an extra item for cdr cap plus no armor pen which is a must. And honestly that item isnt that much worth it (Maybe if it had 10 armor pen). Comparing stats to any other item its obvious deaths dance isnt that good. Thunderlords is kinda ok for a 1v1 quick burst but its cd and ad ratio are really horrible to be any use other than that.
