The grading system is broken, and doesn't work.

So, I've played a good amount of games where I do phenomenal (compared to average) and I expect to see "you have earned an S!" but instead I get an A, or A+. I look at the scoreboard and think what the hell was I supposed to do better? It really makes no sense and is very disappointing. I think the entire grading system should be either re-examined or reworked because it doesn't grade fairly. Here are some examples:

In all of these examples, I did better than some of the other people that actually got an S , and by better I mean either more kills, less deaths, more assists. In one I went 2/0/20, didn't even die, the closest next assist score was 14. SO what the hell is going on here?

You're judged against other people playing that champ/position. So while you think your Alistar game is amazing (it is quite good), it's not as good as other people's. They have similar kill participation and deaths, but a lot more cs from utilizing relic. Your Amumu game you died too much. Your Tryn game you have poor cs for a Tryn.

You don't get an S for "having a good game". You get an S for doing far better than the average playing on the champion. It's like a bell curve.

Low CS.

I dont think you understand how grading works. It doesnt grade how hard you stomped enemy. It grades your overall performance compared to other players on that champion.

Trynda for example is split pusher. As Trynda you should have huge amount of CS. Yet you have very low amount. And Amumu game, you participated in less than half of your team kills. Can you post link to your Alistar game?

The criteria is roughly the following after talking to a great deal of supports, and reading topics such as this:

  • 65% kill participation
  • 20+ cs (higher is always better, but if you excel in other places this is the bare minimum you will need)
  • In an almost 30 minute game you want as close to a ward per minute as you can get
  • As many cleared wards as possible

Going off that game, you were nearly there. My suggestion is push yourself to ward more. It will make the difference.

For those inquiring, here's the game:

Your Alistar game, you had poor kill participation. Your ADC had much higher kill participation than you which is odd if you are playing support.

22 out of 29 is not poor in any sense of the word. You're speaking falsely.

Don't listen to people who tell you it's "based more on cs". No.

It's based more on GOLD PER MINUTE (GPM). In your Alistar game, look at the amount of gold you and your team got, and the amount of gold Xayah got. Care to take a stab at why she got that S? 555 gpm, which is diamond+, as opposed to your 313 gpm.

Wards placed/cleared are a factor yes, objectives are a factor yes, kill participation helps sure. But at the end of the day, the single biggest factor is gold you collected which... guess what OP? Does help your team because it makes you an asset to be ahead. And csing is a gigantic part of that, a bigger factor even than kills, most of the time.

Think about it - if you go 20-0, and everyone you're killing is on death sprees, giving you 50g per kill... what's the point? You get that in 2 freaking minion kills. Whereas if you learn to cs properly and have close to 200 cs by 20 minutes, chances are you'll get an S even if you have only 2 kills and 5 assists. And you'll be so much further ahead than being 10-0-5 with 50 cs.

This is exactly why Riot made the grading system the way they did... because these are the kinds of things that all WIN GAMES. You win games with gold leads, vision control, and objectives. Not. fucking. kda.

And winning is what's needed to climb in ranked. You are literally being graded on your ability to carry matches and win. It's actually a very very good grading system, and if you follow what get's you S's, can help you to improve at league overall, dramatically. Why is this so difficult for people to grasp?
