Hey I'm a relatively new convert from other MOBAs and I could use some advice on heroes to pickup.

Hey, so I used to play a shitload of HoN and HotS before my friends stopped playing those games and my other friends convinced me to give League a shot. I've been maining top with Renekton, and it's working out well with him, but I really need to start branching out. My main skill that I've brought over from HoN is my ability to CS efficiently so I probably should start learning ADCs. I've got a Zac jungle and a Lux (mid or support) somewhat down, but I've had little luck with ADCs. In HoN I used to primarily play strength carries, which aren't really a thing in League (unless you count top lane?) so I have had trouble with positioning in critical fights with squishy ADCs. Since I can only afford 1 or 2 heroes right now I can't afford to buy a hero with no idea if I'll like it, but I'm too impatient to wait for the rotation to keep cycling til I try everyone. Is there any heroes you guys would recommend to me? I really like characters that can sort of initiate and not get blown up right off the bat, but I don't know if there are any bot laners like that.

Thanks for the help, and if there are any players out there in silver trying to climb the ranks send me a friend request. I blew my placement games pretty badly, and had some rotten luck with teammates, but I can promise to win top 70-80% of the time. I just suck at using my teleport to leverage that lead into ganks sometimes.

If you like renekton try riven.

The life of an ADC is pretty much sitting behind your front line melting the enemy. If you want to initiate and be able to take some abuse without dying, top lane or jungle sounds like a good place for you. If you're set on playing adc, maybe try ashe? A well placed arrow can be a good initiation, and she's one of the cheapest champions to buy at I believe 450 ip.

Try the free champs this week as well if you haven't yet.

Yea that's what I keep telling my friend, but he insists I gotta git gud with an ADC since he loves to play support.

Well it's certainly not a bad idea to learn how to play other roles well. Learning how to play an ADC and how to position in team fights will ultimately help you in other roles as well. If you're playing as renekton for example, knowing where ADCs position will help your protect your adc, or help you dive through the enemy front line onto their ADC.

Graves is a more tanky ADC that's pretty good right now. Sivir is cheap and easy to play. Tristana is free if you like Riot on facebook. Ashe has a built in panic button if someone jumps on you.

I've never played Hon, but if you want something in between a squishy ADC and a Tank, Master Yi and Tryndamere may be more your style.

Thanks for the tips, I'll try graves since I've looked at him before and almost pulled the trigger. I've tried tryndamere, but honestly his kit is just too bland and boring to play. I'm not big on straight auto attack guys. Yi seems fun, I've got to try him out soon since I already got him since he was cheap. Appreciate the feedback

Someone like Jax is probably a better bet. From what I know of HoN, it's pretty heavily DOTA-based even to this day, so melee carries he's used to would need to be able to build defensive items and still perform strongly, have defensive tools in their kit, and often have crowd control, too. Jax fulfills all of these, and is far better in the top lane than either of those to boot.

Tankshock1 votes

Its funny when I read your comment I kinda had an 'aha' moment. Jax is someone I've seen fill exactly the role I like playing, I don't know why it never dawned on me before to try him. Thanks for the advice, spot on about the HoN meta.

Ahh yes. Jax is a great pick!!

You said you can CS pretty well so he should fit perfectly! Since jax is a champion that needs items to really get going. You farming well will hasten hes power spikes :D.

ezreal is a safe adc because he is basically a spellcaster who has a free flash. Long range and builds some armour too.

If you want to get very good at this game very quick trust me on this - ONLY play annie, and learn the entire game around here. You will climb very quickly once you start ranked

Is she that good in the meta? I'm not entirely sold on my Lux mid so I'll definitely look into that. I'm in ranked already, but I seriously just play renek every game and crush top lol. I could use a good mid.

Annie has a very straightforward playstyle that's effective in mid or support, but she's fairly easily countered. Still, her ult is game-changing when paired with her passive. Lux has a bit more utility and range. Renekton is undeniably strong, but you'd do well to consider others if you want to keep from getting outpicked/banned. Darius is a pretty solid choice, and Illaoi isn't bad either. They don't carry as hard as Jax or Yi can, but they are hellish in the right hands. Xin Zhao is used more as a jungler, but he can dish and tank pretty well too when fed.

As for ADCs with initiation, you'll be hard-pressed to find any better than Ashe, Sivir, and Varus, for different reasons. Ashe's arrow is technically a global but is better used at closer range with a specific target in mind (it's a single target stun with an AOE slow accompanying it). Sivir has a huge AOE speed boost, so though it isn't itself an initiation, it's a great aid for it. Varus has a single target root that will spread to other nearby enemies, so it's a decent initiator. He also has an AOE slow on a basic ability that works for follow up, and his poke is some of the best in the game. He plays similarly to Ezreal, though slightly more auto-attack focused.

At any rate, welcome to League! Hope you enjoy it. Oh, and don't feed the trolls. They are ornery whether they get meat or not.

Yea I have a problem with that already with Renekton. If they pick Pantheon, Teemo, Darius, or Lee Sin I have to really outplay them to survive. I was thinking of trying out Darius, although I was also looking at Irelia, not sure who I like better. Thanks for the tips!

Navarune1 votes

Irelia can carry pretty hard as well, but playing from behind with her is a massive pain.

Welcome to league. Add me if you'd like me and my buds player super casually [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]

The best part about League is that there are so many champs, and they are all so different. Play em all if you can =D, who knows which ones you'll fall in love with.

khorney1 votes

there really not so different .

Tankshock1 votes

Sure I'll add you. Me and my friends are pretty casual about it too, we've got like 4-5 guys who like to play after work from time to time. Rarely at the same time tho. D:

Part of my problem is that I just love playing Renekton too much. I always feel like crap when I branch out of do poorly, especially if my top loses to a hero that Renekton has a great matchup against.

redfeenix1 votes

Awesome I'm heading to bed but i'll ad ya tommorrow.

Renekton is fun af ! What doe you like most about him? His abilities, tankiness, damage, or thematics?

I can recomend sommmore champs tomorrow :)

here is the thing heroes of the storm is a game that requires teamwork, this game thinks it does but when you can carry as 1 person whats teamwork... who was your fav heroe in heroes ill give you the league counter part.

In HotS I mostly played tanky guys like Muradin, Anubarak, Xul, and Uther, but I did play Nazeebo, Raynor, and Lili if the team called for it. I actually much prefer the way LoL and HoN does mobas where it's not so frantically team based. HotS has too much teamfighting at all times for me. It feels like basketball where nothing matter but the last two minutes / last fight.

WukongMain1 votes

it should be noted that if the game is at a state of everyone basically full build, Unless it's a special case. The most important thing is indeed the last two minutes/ last fight.

Hell at that stage in the game even if 1 person gets caught out it should normally be GG. Since 4v5. Remember to stayed group if the game reaches that stage :D.

Leona . Thresh . ReKenton the person with the tunnels I can't remember her name looks like a zerg. Nautilus. So raka is really the only healer in this game. Taric would be like uther. Raynor could be as adc I would think Cait long range and a poke like his q . Xul would be a littler harder to match. Lol but people in this game think it's team based lol nope heroes is team based . This game a lot of the times comes down to 1 misplay and you lose game

FioraWillCarry1 votes

You might like Gnar. Very tanky, high damage and probably the best initiator in the game. Hecarim also fits this description.

I highly recommend Quinn

Not only is she fun as hell but you are basically an assassin ADC. You can zoom in at 700 ms and ambush squishies before they even know what happened. She has an awesome blind skill and you can play her top lane vs tanks and fighters. Shes not that good bot lane because she is great at 1v1 but 2v2 struggles with shorter range. You can even play her mid. She is easy to pick up and rewarding to master. I believe shes free right now so go for it!
