Implement Replay function in League of Legends

Hey Guys,

The reason I am writing this is, that I got an E-Mail from Riot-Games for using the Tool MKJogo/MKLoL. For those who doesn't know it. It is a programm with which you have many features while playing LoL. Including a jungletimer, quickmessages, skins (only visible for you) and REPLAYS. It is also forbidden because it gives you an advantage in the game because of two features: the jungletimer (a well jungler won't need it) and the quickmessages (kinda useless feature - I am writing faster short messages, because the team will read it faster, e.g. you can programm "Care mid, you are getting ganked", I would ping 2 times for danger and write "care" or "gank", which is way more effective).

The reason I uses MKJogo is the Replay function, sure, there exists a tool named LoL Replay, what can only capture the games, but I had a bad experience with that, so I switched to MKJogo.

After reseaving the warning I wrote to the support my problem and they only said, that I will receive a ban, if I will use it further. So my idea is to impliment the replayfunction in League of Legends which can be toggled on and off (if stored on the users computer) or the games are stored on the servers. I am sure, that Riot will get some help from the developers of LoL Replay and MKJogo. If this won't be done, than I request an agreement of Riot, which allows the use of the replayfunction from these tools.

What will get lost without the replay fuction? Many many really good videos of hilarious, great and beautiful scenes from League of Legends. It is a great ingredient of all League of Legends videos in the internet. So forbidding is the right way?

Thank you for feedback and ideas,

Just google League of Legends Replays. There are quite a few replay clients out there which do not include features that cause them to break the rules. I've lately been testing the SkinSpotlights Replay client, and it seems to be working alright so far. For the record, I did use LoLReplay for a long time but also started having issues with it, so I got rid of it as well.

I agree that it would be awesome for Riot to get replays implemented within their own client. Heck, they had them on the PBE a while back. Last I heard about that effort was that Riot needed to get better infrastructure in place before they could do much more with it. Now that we've had the server upgrade/move, maybe that will lay the groundwork for what is needed for replays? We can only hope. But in the meantime, there are plenty of options available, like I said.

The problem is, that even the replay function breaks the rules, that's the problem.

No, it doesn't. Part of the reason Riot hasn't pressed so hard to create their own replays is because of the widely-available replay clients provided by the community. They've basically said this outright.

The third-party application rules state that it cannot interfere with the game between pressing 'Play' and the end-game stats screen. Replay clients don't do that. They run in the background. They provide no functionality during the match, and don't insert themselves at all. It's basically just creating a log as if it were spectating the match. So if a client is only providing replay functionality, that's not an issue.

Where MKLoL goes wrong, is with inserting things into the in-game UI (be it the custom skin selection during champion select, or the jungle timers overlayed onto the mini-map). These are directly interfering between pressing 'play' and the post-game screen, and therefore are not allowed.

In the terms of use at V. J it says:

J. Using any unauthorized third party programs, including but not limited to "mods," "hacks," "cheats," "scripts," "bots," "trainers," and automation programs, that interact with the Software in any way, for any purpose, including, without limitation, any unauthorized third party programs that intercept, emulate, or redirect any communication between the Software and Riot Games and any unauthorized third party programs that collect information about the Game by reading areas of memory used by the Software to store information;

So every program is forbidden, if it interacts with the game.

Replay clients do not "interact with the software... or redirect any communication between the Software and Riot Games".

More clearly, as was outlined here, replay clients do not "interfere with or grab data from the player’s actual game client".

They essentially join the game as a spectator and record what's going on in the game from there, in a format that the client is then able to play back into a game that is launched on a local server instance that it creates to run the game.

Replay clients by themselves are okay, because of the way they work (or more, what they don't have to do to work).
