Placement Games Got Me Like "GRRRRRRRRRR"

So when the season restarted, I was Bronze 4 and had just got promoted. I had been one a 5 ranked-game win streak before the season ended. The next day, on the start of the season, me and my buddy duoed and finished our placement games pretty quick. The total goal was to win at least 7, and we ended it 8-2 ( woulda been 9-1 had it not been for a 4v5 >.> ) I was super excited to see where I had been placed, but then my heart sank when I saw it was Bronze V. I died a little, wiped my tears, and exited the game. Now, I'm not really upset over this, and I have no problem on my plans to climb out, but none of it makes any sense to me. I don't understand how or why I was placed even lower than I started after overall having a very good placement outcome. Thats it for my rant, just wanted to know if anyone else would share any similar experiences with their placement games. Cheers.

So baslcally you went 126/143 which is a 46% win rate in bronze 5/4 . Having a negative win rate negatively impacts your hidden MMR. Basically your hidden mmr is telling matchmaking you are not playing at your current bracket. Sure you won 8 games in placements against people that were probably also below that bronze 5 mmr. Hence you got put in bronze 5. Most people will go down a division anyways, riot wants you to earn your rank in most cases.

It's based on your previous season's MMR not the rank itself, in fact there's virtually no reason for the current system to exist as it doesn't mean a damn thing.

I was in bronze 1 at the end of last season playing with high silver and low gold players in most of my matches.

The fact is that even if you had Bronze 4 MMR, the ranked system comes with a soft reset at the beginning of seasons that have seen significant changes, maybe all of them, I'm not really sure. So the soft reset would have dumped you into bronze 5 anyway.
