I really don't understand how I am supposed to adc in team fights.

Ok so whenever I am adc, even if I am doing it well it is hard to kill the enemy champions. Usually what will happen is I will target a priority champion , the squishy damage dealers usually, but i can't kill them. I will get them super low then they run. If I follow to kill I will run into the entire team. Usually the enemy tanks are in front and I can't just run past them to get the squishys. I lose the battle in every situation unless the enemy team is new.

-Target squishy adc, the adc runs away, I get killed by the entire team. -Target tank, I can't kill them in time or they run away, then I get killed by the enemy team.

Even if I am fed and do a lot of damage, it just makes them run away faster. If I chase them to kill them I will die. So how am I supposed to effectively carry my team if I can never kill anything? I can't picture a single situation where I will win unless the enemy team is entire new players. If they are experienced they know how to disengage. I am using Varus as of now also, so any tips for him would be nice.

It is not the job of the adc to kill the squishy priority champions It is not the job of the adc to get kills

The job of the adc is to deal damage, nothing more, nothing less. The adc deals damage and should not stop dealing damage. The adc does not need to get the kills or secure them but doing so will make your life a lot easier most likely

If a squishy and tank are in reach you should aim for the squishy, not because it is the job of the adc or anyone in particular but because eliminating threats will increase your damage over time.

If a tank is nearby and a fighter can follow up or something and there are squishies too far away to be bothered with don't go faceplanting into the frontline to hit the squishies. It doesn't matter what the team wants to do, if they want to dive the backline and you are incapable of doing so you back off and let them die. If they need to dive they better have some shit about which adc they wanted in champion select. Vayne can get away with stuff like that, Ashe cannot. Jinx can as long as you don't fuck up. MF gives no shits, she's always ready to brawl. Cait kindof gives a shit. Corki would rather not but can. Trist will love you forever if you do it. Nobody cares what ezreal wants, make him do it.

Consider which adc youre playing and decide if your team should prioritize something and speak up before they screw you over but for the most part you'll just be hitting whatever is in reach not running in after something unless its really worth it.

A lot of adcs fail because they are afraid to counterbuild or attack a tank. "don't focus the tank" they say, this is some advice for noobs because noobs don't understand the longer version "don't focus the front line unless the backline is condition a,b,c,d, or e and take into consideration the prememorized build needs of the specific champ to determine if you must target the tank or simply yellow ping. If possible focus on helping to eliminate squishier threats and keep evasive maneuvers ready.. etcetc" Its easier to just say don't focus the tank but this isn't really good general advice for people who actually want to get better at the adc specifically or anyone who isn't an assassin really.

"hurrdurr don't focus the tank blitz!" "but he was riding ashe like a pony!"

Thanks a bunch. I thought my job as a carry was to just get kills. dealing damage sounds a little more practical, lol. ^~^

The pope, a soldier, and an adc walk into a bar... TONS OF DAMAGE!

Someone told the adc a ward was needed at dragon, he asked himself how much damage he could do with this ward.

ADC's often carry up to 6 defensive or support items, but they let the tank or support carry them for them so they can deal TONS OF DAMAGE

Hit the closest highest Damage threat to you at all times. Try to stay near your support...and behind your front line ALWAYS.

I suggest watching some pro games and watch their positioning.

You don't need to get kills, just do damage and stay alive.

Getting the enemy team to back can be just as good as getting kills because it allows you to take towers, get deep vision, or get an uncontested baron/dragon.

Youre not supposed to chase squishy targets as an adc in teamfights, just survive and deal as much as damage as you can to any target.

You're doing it wrong. Your job is not to kill priority targets. That's an assassin's job. Your job is to be the primary damage of your team. As an AD carry Marksman you should ALWAYS be with your team come mid to late game, ready to provide damage when they engage the enemy in a team fight. Do not start fights by yourself and do not engage first.

Let me give you an example of how you're supposed to be thinking. If you're on a team with Gnar, Katerina, Warwick and Thresh and you're Ashe. When the lane phase is over and everybody starts rotating, you should always be looking to stick close to either a beefy team mate or one with some kind of root, stun or a potent slow. This is because an AD carry like Ashe needs peel. So if your team is split up, NEVER over extend without being in the company of either Gnar, Thresh or Warwick. Don't stick close to Kat unless she's super fed or something. She has no CC to peel someone off you if you're ambushed from a bush or something. This simple thing can net you a whole lot of easy kills.

Another thing, when you're all grouped up. You should position yourself in the back line and poke whenever you can but DO NOT BE THE FIRST TO COMMIT to a team fight. Wait for Gnar to engage when he gets big, or Warwick to ult someone or Thresh to land a hook on someone. When any of these things happen, your team will dive in. And while your team is busy soaking up all their damage and CC, you'll be safely and easily doing a lot of damage from behind because the enemy team just spent their spells and damage fighting off your team's engage. This is how you play the AD carry role as a Marksman correctly.

Oh sweet. Thank you so much. I am usually a beefy top laner, but I am trying some other roles. heh heh.

Varus is a bottom tier ADC. He has a short range AA, and no escape/gap closer/movement ability. He is a better mid laner. But your job as an ADC isnt to target the squishies....its to target whatever the hell is closest and easiest to hit. If you can get to the squishies without putting yourself in danger, then fine, but its the assassins/fighters job to go for the squishies. Varus lacks the ability to dash in and get that last AA or 2 on the enemy for the kill....which is one of the reasons why hes a lackluster ADC. His job is more of a burst ADC than a sustained dmg ADC. You need to also stay with your tanks/support. Their job is to protect you as best they can, so you can pump out damage. They dont always do this well in lower elo's so you kinda half to do it yourself by staying near them. Dont go flashing forward for kills since you have no way to safely get back to your team (thats just for varus or any immobile ADC) lol Using Varus' ult at the correct time is also a hige part of playing him well

Usually you have someone hold them down in my experience.

It all boils down to right clicking people while avoiding getting right clicked by people.

Try playing Sivir. She can attack everyone at once! Keep that W activated!

Stay in the backline and rightclick whatever that is in range.
