Is Leona still a good choice as support?

I honestly really enjoy playing support, and at the moment I only play Thresh, Blitz, and Karma. I recently got a good Leona skin in my hextech chest but I rerolled it to get a random perm skin :( I regret it so much. Anyways, I've been recently duoing with an ADC, and he's not quite very good yet. We're both planning on starting to play someone new so we can duo bot next season and possibly climb together next season. Would Leona be a good choice? I never ever played anyone who is melee and a tank, it just never was my thing.

Do you guys still think Leona is a decent choice? Are there any suggestions? I also wanted to try Lissandra as support, since I want to be different.

Edit: Thank you guys for the answers! I will be trying Leona right now.

As someone who doesn't play ADC that often, I hate being teamed up with a Leona.

Let me explain why: Leona is very much a feast-or-famine champion. If she has the right ADC and can make a good engage, then she can get her ADC fed and snowball the lane. If, however, the enemy team have the advantage, then she becomes completely useless. Going all-in and peeling enemy melees are pretty much the only things that she can do. If the enemy have really good disengage, she can't go in. If the enemy have really good poke and can keep your lane worn down too much to trade, she can't go in. If the enemy can keep your carry far enough back that they can't follow up, she can't go in.

And, if she can't go in, there really isn't much that she can do in lane. She becomes useful again once the laning phase ends, since her ult allows her to make great catches and her CC is great for peeling for her allies.

The point I'm trying to make is that you need to be very well-coordinated and your ADC needs to be very confident to play with Leona support. You're talking about duoing with someone who you say is "not quite very good yet" - that sounds like an ADC who isn't very confident and will probably be more likely to be playing the safe, try-to-farm-and-stay-relevant lane rather than the go-all-in-and-stomp-the-enemy lane. She's not especially forgiving if things go wrong. A more traditional support is much better at shielding damage to keep your ADC alive, or healing them up after unfavourable trades, and so the lane doesn't become so feast-or-famine.

well it depends on how you play leona.. in general terms she is a engage champ /aka kill lane bot... dont do well with passive farm adcs in theory

but she has 3 forms of cc and a shield to protect her... you can ( and i have and do if need be ) player her as a counter engage champ... let the enemy force the engage and when they do you use your q e and r to counter their engage and peel for adc to let them win the fight...

works really well with vayne in lane about lvl 3 then you have your true power spike lvl 6

ez is another good champ for this... ashe not bad either... they can all kite well

She's fine against most, you just need to know that every time an enemy is in E range doesn't mean to initiate.

Shes situational. You cant just pick Leona when someone locks morg or janna.. If they do get prepared to have a rough lane.

I think leona is fine tho.

you say you cant but i do and leona has shorter cds on her q and e and the spell shield on morg is long and her Q cd is long to... its a skill match up

similar with with janna her Q is a fairly long cd and her shield dont stop your engage as leona..

i suggest taking ignite vs janna she is fairly squishy and at lvl 2 (if you get to lvl 2 1st in bot lane ) just all in her

i also play leona into blitz and thresh and wait for them to blow there Q on me to free engage on adc

i feel kamra is a better issue for leona then janna or morg

Yes you are correct... but im saying in a medium + elo for the most part leona can be easily countered more than other supports

Im not saying you cant play around it lol just saying its hard for leona sometimes..

Theres been a lot of times where the lane was practically a 2v1 for me because my leona couldnt do anything against their morg because black shield.

Leona is a bit out of meta with Thresh and Blitzcrank. The initiating supports are always going to have their place though. Lissandra support isn't done a lot but it's very strong. If you like Lissandra and Karma try Morgana as well. Fantastic if you're somewhat low elo. People have a lot of trouble dodging her Q and her ult is a teamfight killer. But just remember to play champions you like, not just because they're meta.

Leona is pretty good against squishies that can't go full-DPS mode and that they don't have lockdown CC.

Otherwise she's fairly situational and as long as she's not against Janna or Morgana, not too bad of a choice.

Yes, probably more so once the new keystone is released.
