If you are having large swings in play, such as large win and loss streaks keeping you down, it may be because of tilt. Some tricks for mitigating tilt include:
-
Get plenty of rest, nutrition, and exercise. Having a healthy body will help you keep a healthy state of mind, and you will be more resilient to tilting when things start to go poorly for you in-game.
-
Take a break after a loss. It doesn't have to be long, just enough to reset your state of mind so that you do not carry frustration with you into your next game. 5 minutes is usually enough for me, just enough time to step outside for some fresh air or to go to the kitchen to grab a drink or a snack
-
Don't play ranked when you are in a bad state. If you're hungry, tired, or already upset then you're going to make mistakes and suffer worse for them. You are also more likely to tilt when you are in such a state, because your mistakes will be more frustrating for you than they would if you were feeling calmer and more confident.
-
Don't consume food or snacks with sugar before or during play. Blood sugar crashes will make you tilt far harder than you would if you had normal levels of blood sugar.
General things to improve:
-
Maintain a champion pool with at least a few champions for each position, ideally covering multiple roles for your team. Practice these champions often so that you stay sharp with them. If you are able to adapt to your team composition and fill in missing roles (such as Front Liner or Peeler) you will be more able to win those games where the rest of your team fails to pick complementary champions or they leave out an important role.
.
For example, I like artillery / poke mages, but I don't just spam Xerath when I play. If my teammate has a frontliner support like Leona then sometimes I go Ziggs so that I can still poke for my team, but I will also be able to peel for our ranged carry.
-
Watch your replays. It's easy to miss key things in the heat of the moment while you are playing. By watching it over again while you are not burdened with the effort of playing and strategizing you will be more able to see where things went wrong or where you made mistakes you can improve upon. This is the best way to learn about your own mistakes. If you can't do it or don't want to watch them yourself sometimes you can request a higher level player to coach you. They are sometimes generous enough to coach for free, and they can provide great insight into our mistakes as well as what to improve upon.
