League needs a real practice mode
One thing that has always been true about games, and MMOs in particular, is that they more often than not take elements from other games that work, sometimes making it even better than it once was. One prominent example I can think of is the Auction House. Auction Houses in MMORPGs have become a mainstay of the genre, so much so that you see them in every game from Final Fantasy XI to World of Warcraft and beyond. It allows players to support each other through various means and therefore is a valuable tool.
I bring this up because there is something that I think that League of Legends needs. Something that it is sorely lacking: A Practice Mode.
I hear the rebuttals coming now. "But Oasus! You can make a custom mode match to practice whatever you want!" And on any other day I might agree with you. But like most other gamers, I do often experiment with other titles (shocking I know). Lately, I had gotten into SMITE a little bit and played around with the elements that they have to offer. And one of the things they had to offer, that I thought was REALLY cool, was their Training Jungle.
Now what I was expecting was a map filled with only jungle buffs and practicing camps and whatnot. Boy was I wrong. Not only did it have jungle buffs but it had:
- Epic Monsters
- The ability to experiment with different builds via infinite gold
- Champion lanes
- Even a minion lane for practicing last hitting
And if that wasn't enough, there's also a small zone in the central plaza where you start where if you stand in it your level resets back to 1. So if you wanted to screw around or continue practicing minion hitting, you could do that without hitting a high level.
That's what this game is missing, I swear. I understand that this idea has been dismissed by Riot in the past, citing claims of increasing the learning curve, but this was never backed with any empirical data or evidence to support the claim. So today I'm here to make this plea to you all and to Riot: doesn't this sound like something that would benefit the player base as a whole? I mean the training levels already provided don't last forever. Players should be able to have access to something they can always go to whenever they just want to relax or even learn a new champion (cause we all know every champion is different).
Please give me your constructive feedback below. I look forward to reading it all! <3
