Generally if you're losing more than you're earning then you're at the upper echelon of your MMR and the system thinks you should be lower.

your mmr is a fair bit lower than the average in your division, so you lose more LP than you gain.

One summoner's history of about 300 ranked games in Bronze Divisions 4 & 5:

Blue is Bronze IV points awarded, Red is Bronze V points awarded. https://s16.postimg.org/q8zxa6gvp/LPby_Division.png

Bronze V mostly around +20 & -18 LP Bronze IV mostly around +13 LP

The pattern of awards is not consistent with the construal of relative division average impact.

I'm too stupid to understand what you said. Can you break it down for a bottom feeder like me?

The awards presented for victory/defeat formed heaps centered around +20 for victory in bronze V and -18 for defeat in bronze V. But the awards given for victory in Bronze IV form a pile around +13, and don't have a distinguishable pattern for defeat.

Further study would be to track awards across the full spread of divisions, and see if there is a pattern in the way awards are distributed as a summoner climbs the ladder.

+20 LP for a win and -18 LP for a loss is about the average (+/- 3). If you end up losing more LP for a loss (say -18 LP vs +14 LP) it means that your MMR (what Rito uses for matchmaking) is lower than your current rank and so the system is trying to get you to where your MMR actually is. op.gg let's you check to see if your MMR is where it should be.

Keep in mind that if you q with people of higher MMR, your MMR will usually go higher as well because your opponents will have higher MMR. If you go on a win streak your MMR will go up. But if you q with people of lower MMR your MMR will go down a lot faster, and likewise if you go on a losing streak.

As someone who's gone on a huge losing streak and dropped S4 to B3 in Season 5, taken a break to get gud and then got stuck with shitty MMR, it's best to ride out the shitty MMR til it balances out (try not to stress too much) and then go back to the climb.
