Suggestion to add counter-play to Akali's kit

The big complaint about Akali is that she is too damn sticky, and very hard to peel off squishy targets.

Currently, Akali can have up to three charges of her ult, with a range of 800 on it. Consider this change:

Akali's base range on ult is now 600, and additional charges may be consumed to increase range to 800-1000.

This way, she can be peeled if she chooses to ult from afar, and she will have to get closer if she wants to conserve charges... how's this sound?

Sounds really clunky. Arbitrarily going "this enemy is 2 out of range so I'm taking an extra gapcloser and damage charge from you" is annoying and unfun to the player. In addition, this means anyone playing as Akali would have to memorize the exact range she has to be in (quickcast exists you know) to not lose most of her damage (Q proc and E don't work when you aren't in range).

Counter play = CC and detection

There's already some highly effective counter play involved with Akali.

  • Ignite
  • Pink Ward
  • Scanner Trinket
  • CC
  • Bait her dashes
  • Abuse her melee range

All of that can be compiled on a single champion to outplay her. The trick to countering a champion like Akali is tweaking your play style to match hers from the start of the match. You can't wait until she's 3 kills ahead and then decide to start trying to counter her.
