Why does dodging reduce LP

Honestly its dumb, the time limit should be enough, why should I get punished for leaving a game that i otherwise wouldn't of wanted to play or simply couldn't play for whatever reason.

Ensure punishment. By dodging it's not just about your time that's wasted. There's 9 other people in that game.

Dodging used to be a huge issue in ranked where if the enemy team even looks slightly strong people would dodge. Getting a game going became too much of a chore. So the punishment had to be high.

If you decided you didn't want to play it. The above reason applies to you. If life made you dodge then go worry about your life and less about the game. Real life comes first. But the punishment still holds because Riot can't make a way to tell if you're deciding to dodge or you need to dodge.

And so the time punishment should be enough I feel. A 30 minute wait is basically a full game already so its not like your wasting other peoples time by waiting the 30. Why does you rank get affected, dodging has nothing to do with actual skill to play the game.

Cause it does not show true sportsmanship, be it a computer game or real life. Not like when there's an Olympic run for 200m, and the guy stops at 50m and backs out because "he went pass me". This just really spits your image.

So if you get a person in your lobby spouting profanities and saying Im going to feed yadda yadda you should get your rank affected for not wanting to play with that person? Because, True sportsmanship, makes sense.

The guy who didn't show sportsmanship by acting like a 3 year old and trolls around? Yes he deserves heavy punishment.

Repeating his immature acts by afk-ing? You deserve a ban, mate.

that's not what he is saying.

People will still abuse this. If you see your team has a worse comp and you think you'll lose. Why spend 30m and lose LP when you can just dodge.

The LP loss is to prevent abuse of the system. Even if they made it so you couldn't play for the rest of the day but didn't lose LP people would be fine with that. In turn those who maybe had a disconnect randomly. Something completely out out of their control, are now punished harder and can't even play a second game in 5 minutes to try and gain the LP back.

What really needs to happen is Riot needs to make it so they can gather the chat logs of pre and post game so that these people can be punished properly.

How it's handled now is hardly the best way. But until they put the effort into changing the code so they can use better ways it's all they have.

I agree... if you see a player that is being toxic already or is not co-operating why can't there be some way to either find someone to fill their slot or just find a different game?

I can understand the time limit, as it prevents you from repeatedly dodging every game you get last pick in or some stupid reason like that, or at the same time probably preventing you from getting the same person you originally dodged to avoid playing with, but why lose lp. Its really not justified by any means on riots end. What could possibly be the reason for your ranking to be affected for leaving at the champ select.

People dodge to perhaps get a better team or team comp or something like that but even if you get the team you want you'll still be a bad player if you are already. makes no sense to me.

When they tried to have no dodge penalty, lobbies turned into passive aggressive contests to make other people dodge and it could take 4-5 lobbies before getting a game going.

It doesn't reduce MMR, only LP. Unless you get unlucky and find yourself at 97-99LP, it doesn't even matter.

Increase the time penalty to 8 or more hours and I'd be okay with removing the LP penalty.

Why does dodging reduce LP

Any incentive to dodge screws over 9 players. Any disincentive against dodging aids 9 players.

At the very least a game starting for people that queued to play a game is going to favor a majority because of statistics and probability, where a game not starting people queued to play will only favor a minority.

Logic dictates incentivising dodging is a massive con.

Because it can happen by accident via a DC they can't be mean-spirited about it and have to keep the punishment within reason, but I don't see anything unreasonable about forcing an LP loss on players trying to be a fortune teller, cheat through trying to dodge challenging games while only playing easy games, or being to unskilled to put up with champions that aren't on of the top 15 meta picks. The game's a lot funner when people aren't afraid to divert from the meta and use a wide range of strategies and tactics, and try winning through developing interesting strategies and skills within the game over trying to artificially manipulate the outcome of a game outside of it.
