What do you like about Kassadin?

I'm interested in hearing everyone's thoughts about what they liked, and even didn't like, about Kassadin's character and gameplay throughout his entire existence.

I'm not really looking for things related to damage, as damage numbers can always be tweaked, I'm thinking more of the nature of his abilities. For example, I know someone who absolutely loved Null Sphere, as it was an orb of void that prevented spellcasting.

I liked the fact that Kassadin was a mobile anti mage champion

His passive reduced magic damage, his Q silenced his target, his E kept them from running if they spammed too much abilities and his W removed their mana to prevent them from casting abilities

Eventually they removed his ability to remove mana, and I was like ugh fine whatever that was the least coolest I suppose

Then they removed his silence, his passive, his mobility...

They have basically destroyed every last interesting part of Kassadin because they don't know how to balance him

Here is the thing about Kassadin, The way he SHOULD have been was NEVER a "burst" mage

He had some of the highest base offensive stats in the game (AD and AS), his passive provided attack speed and his E provided sticking power while his R providing gap closing

The only damn thing Riot really had to do was nerf the AP ratio on basically everything and Kassadin would have been this awesome Fighter Anti Mage guy...

Except nooooooo Riot preserved his R Q E death cycle that is broken gameplay until we have this pathetic slug of a champion

just compare him to anti mage in dota 2:

both had mana burn both had blink both had resistance passive but kassadin had burst, instead of removing burst they removed the champ

I can't help but feel like this thread is a eulogy to Kassadin, lmao; I think Meddler commented that they're looking to buff Kassadin back. Anyways:

Didn't play much Kassadin, but playing against him, I liked that he was one of the few assassins that didn't just pop out of nowhere and delete you from the face of the earth. There was a period where he could do this, and that absolutely sucked; I thought the Kassadin before 5.4 was perfectly fine though. The fact that he had his mobility, and he built like an off-tank in some cases, but didn't just annihilate you was cool to play around, predicting when he was going to go aggressive and then countering that. I didn't like the fact that his lvl 6 is such a game changer. His lane is fairly weak early but once he hits 6 he becomes godly, a lot like Akali. Playing against Akali (before her nerfs) felt a lot like trying to drain a tank of water that's filling up faster than you can drain it for like five minutes, and after time's up just praying that you emptied enough water so that you don't drown as the tank fills up again.

I think ever since they took his scaling silence away, its been all downhill from there. Season 3 Kassadin or nothing. He can barely, if even, do his job now as a mage assassin. When I started playing League, Kassadin was my first main champion. He was so much fun to play and learn the game with. Now I can't even justify playing him, especially since they raped his ult. Sorry Riot, I was a die hard Kassadin player, but now I can't even touch him.

Plus, Kassadin is... was his ult. They just basically made him a shell of what he was. Even if I was playing before this nerf, I am definitely not playing him now. - RIP Kassasin 2015

He was meant to be the 'aggressive' anti-mage, compared to Galio who was the 'defensive' anti-mage.

The silence removal, I can live with. Anti-mage is one thing, but removing the ability to react is another. Hell, the magic shield is even better for his role.

But the latest change is too far. Again, compared to Galio, Kass was the aggressive one, the hyper mobile one. He was an anti mage because he could break through their defenses, stepping right next to them and going "Hey, what's up?" before proceeding to wreck face. Now? Now I don't even know.

Null sphere was awesome, amazing before the rework. They only hurt his early game by removing it's damage and silence. Instead of just tweaking scaling to fix the problem, as usual they kept redesigning the character to the point of extinction.

But I adored the power to be a useful asset to my team with the silence, serving to disable assassins who relied on abilities instead of AAs. I loved it's old visuals and sound better as well. It was loads of fun to use, and since it's been changed I quit playing Kassadin. Now I hear they ruined riftwalk, his E and his W as well, and removed the fun from his passive. All still without fixing his scaling. Sad really.

He is damn awesome in character, loved his voice, lines and lore. Still hoping they add his daughter as a champ someday, or release a female Kassawin skin. Aside from that I love the AS from magic damage, we need more dps and less burst in the game, dueling is fun, watching player A or B vanish isn't for me.

well nothing anymore, they've completely destroyed what made kassadin an anti-mage.

I never truly appreciated how attached to his ult range I was until they removed it.

I love his ult being powerful, and I love force pulse. His Q is rather boring in my opinion since it doesn't do much outside of damage. The removal of the silence made it rather bland. I also loved his old passive.

also if somebody quotes this post I'll follow up with more detail when I get home since I'm on mobile and the notification will remind me

I liked his ult until they nerfed it

High mobility (nerfed) Badass theme (removed)

  • Kassadin's mobility was a defining characteristic. Yet his mobility was completely nerfed into the ground alongside his damage, while characters like Ahri Zed LeeSin Nidalee Kalista are considered healthy because "muh skillshot".

  • His theme as a silencing anti-mage. His entire character revolved around the concept of silencing enemies. Have a look at some of his quotes:

"Silence!" "Your magic is powerless against me!" "I tried to silence my mother once. Boy, did I regret that."

Normally when Riot nerfs characters, they talk about "theme". Kassadin's kit screams "silencing anti-mage". Why was such an obvious indicator to his theme not taken seriously?

In a speed test from top left to bot right. Both at lvl 18 with equal ms speed + boots, one use speed boost item ( like talisman ) and the other just use ult ( with a lot of mana item + mana manstery + mana runes ) whenever possible. Who will win ? If the result is a tie or close call, why bother using ult ? If ult usage already beyond 3 - 4 times, why bother with ult ? I doubt Kassadin players invest a lot of mana item to do ult beyond 3 - 4 times in a row.

Or with LeBlanc, same condition but both rely on skills alone. Or test with ward jumper, sight stones and lvl 9 wards. Or Kalista while she hit that river monster + mid lane minions. Or Janna with full W + ap items or speed boost items. Or Nami with full passive trigger, q w e 24/7 with mana regen as her basic and actual items. Or other champs with speed boost / jump ability.

Remember, basic move speed with boots need to be the same.

If a lot of the result in a tie or force Kass to use ult more than 3-4 times in a row..... the ult is not worth it due to mana usage increase. He will need a lot of mana items which won't happen in real condition.

Normally he uses ult to jump in and out. That already 2 usage in a row since 20 seconds is quite long. Third use to chase enemy or outrun enemy. Fourth use already force his mana limit, either this to further outrun enemy or back off from chasing. Fifth, if Kass still have mana ( in real condition ), amazing, since he invest in mana items rather damage items.
