Why does Grasp of the undying scale with Max HP?

This is a mastery for tanks so why not let it scale with bonus hp instead. As it it right now even non tanks can just take it for a nice bit of early game damage and sustain.

At lvl 1 Garen has 616 hp so grasp deals 18 damage(18.48 to be exact) At lvl 1 Riven has 558 hp so grasp does 17 damage (16.74 to be exact)

Garen is supposed to be tanky,Riven isn't yet the difference is so small. Now u might say well what about hp gain per level?

At lvl 3 Garen has 741 hp so grasp deals 22 damage(22.23 to be exact) At lvl 3 Riven has 685 hp so grasp does 21 damage (20.55 to be exact) Still not much of a difference

At lvl 6 Garen has 949 hp so grasp deals 28 damage(28.47 to be exact) At lvl 6 Riven has 898 hp so grasp does 27 damage (26.94 to be exact)

If it scaled with Bonus hp then the mastery wouldn't have had to be nerfed because everyone and their mother was using it in toplane. It would actually be good if on tanks while being crap on squishies which is how is was meant to be.

Edit: For heal values just halve the damage values.

Why does Grasp of the undying scale with Max HP?

Probably so it has a smooth power-curve over the course of a game without going crazy on champions like Lulu or Nasus that have huge HP steroids, along with making the mastery seem useful with standard tank builds rather than heavily incentivising max-HP item 3027item 3083 shenanigans.

When you consider a typical game only lasts ~33 minutes and sees ~11k gold per player, difference between a tank and a squishy is about ~1,000 HP: not a whole lot all things considered. And if Grasp needs to make 1000 the equivalent of 3000 for it's scalings, abuse cases would abound.

As it it right now even non tanks can just take it for a nice bit of early game damage and sustain.

For most intents and purposes base stats across all champions are ~identical, so that's not untrue.

Where champion's differ is almost exclusively their abilities and what their abilities scale well with and push players to build. Well, that and AA range. AA range differs quite a bit between champions.

But with abilities and items: Tanks still don't differ much in the HP zone compared to non-tanks, particularly fighters and mages, who can reach very similar HP pools with much lower armor/mr values.

I'm just going to say this - Unfortunately we are in a meta where everyone builds a shit ton of HP because ... well .... Fuck assassins. Also the meta isn't really tank favored.

Bruisers and Mages rule all at the moment.
