Matchmaking is in the best place I've seen it in a very long time. GOOD JOB!

And yes, every lane got their faces stomped the fuck in like it was Hulk Hogan's birthday. What the motherfuck Riot. This isn't the first time this has happened either. I would much rather have even 10 minute Q times to find a match over this rubbish. I get the player database is relatively low comparing to previous years, but don't shortcut fucking matchmaking so the queue times can be "optimal". Even on my alt, I get mid 4/10 games because I flat out get autofilled. Come on man. Pull it together Riot Games!

Matchmaking in normals is pretty dang good too. Silver and unranked vs. grandmaster seems like a fair match.

BigFBear3 votes

In normals it's another reason. It has his own matchmaking. If there is a Grandmaster Player who never played normals in his life he starts on the bottom like everyone else. But after he won 50 games in a row he climbs in normal hidden MMR pretty fast. But ye... it's kinda dumb.

floo5 votes

Yea because a grandmaster suddenly plays on silver niveau when he switches queue. That's how it works right? That's also why diamonds and masters play against me in flex queue on gold rank. Gj riot

BigFBear2 votes

Yes it's a different Elo. If a Grandmaster makes a new account he also starts in Silver and not in Grandmaster. It's basically the same.

floo2 votes

It makes no sense. He doesn't suddenly lose his skill to be comparable with silver or gold players. If he got to grandmaster, he knows how the game works way better than any silver could. It's not the same. Riot already has knowledge about his skill from one ranked queue. A fresh account has to be determined as a new player or smurf first.

BigFBear2 votes

Yeah tell that Riot. Not me.

floo1 votes

I was explaining my standpoint to you because you had a contrary opinion?

BigFBear3 votes

Dude, i just explained how it is. It's not my opinion. It's a fact. It's programmed that way.

I even wrote in my start post that it's "dumb".

Starcraft243ver2 votes

The problem you have then is, what about people who do not play ranked at all ?

You can't have a shared mmr in an elo system because elo system is a 0 sum game. So, sure it's a bad solution, but it's still the best you can come up with.

floo2 votes

I'm not sure what the 0 sum game has to do with that, but if you have a similar mmr in normal as you have in ranked then I don't see a problem. Afaik normals have their own "queue" with an mmr different from the ranked mmr. This creates uneven matchups, just like a soloq grandmaster in gold flex queue. Imo other queues should have a similar matchup mmr like your first achieved rank, if that makes sense. I.e. if you reach diamond over the course of some months it should influence your matchups in other queues as well, maybe not as dramatically but in a general direction.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

Imo other queues should have a similar matchup mmr like your first achieved rank

This would just encourage people to have one account per queue. If you reached master in s1 then you started playing very casualy and have now the skill of a gold/silver, you have broken your normal mmr forever. So you start over again.

Now you will never ever have a good matchmaking in normal games because it's the game mod in which you can duo with your GM friend when you are level 5. It's the game mod in which you first time champions and builds etc.

floo1 votes

What even is that supposed to mean "starts playing very casual"? It's not like he forgets how to play the game, that would be very new to me except if there is a big time gap with loads of new content and changes. But then the automatic rankdown does it's job. You can use the same argument today, you're not prohibited from playing with a friend 3 tiers above you for example. But they aren't supposed to get into a game like this by themselves by default, that's just stupid. Playing with a high elo friend isn't the norm but hard to avoid if you don't also put rank restrictions in there, which shouldn't exist for normals, that's true.

The game changed a lot. And mecanics can be lost quite fast. So yes basically you forget how to play the game.

floo1 votes

Over a considerable amount of time, yes. You won't forget how to lasthit, how jungle priority works, how and when to roam, how to push/freeze your lane etc. if you once learned how to do these things.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

Decision making changed a lot from S4 when I began playing,

Minions gold, the fact the lane auto-pushed when you were behind, plating, first tower gold and the fact towers are fragile makes it sometimes more worthy to just push the tower instead of roaming. Or to just leave your lane for a 4 man gank/early dive bot and shoot the turret in one wave.

This was not possible back in s4, I can keep going for hours about the changes. The scuttlers fight changed the early dynamic of the jungle as well, krug, raptors, ...

floo1 votes

I can say it again, over a considerable amount of time yes. S4 and S9 is 5 years in difference, what do you expect. But it isn't the same to change from grandmaster in soloQ to gold in flex with a press on a different button.

Starcraft243ver1 votes

This would just encourage people to have a second account so they can play with friends at any elo. You do not lose skill when you switch to your alt account either.

Why did my queue time declined from 1:40 in S8 anderen earlier seasons to 0-30 seconds in S9 if playerbase is shrinking?

More autofill. Hope you love autofilled players on your team!

Original Sin8 votes

Just use your brain and you'd be able to answer your own question. :)

BigFBear1 votes

Actually no. Because it makes no sense to shorten queue time when playerbase is shrinking. I don't say playerbase isn't shrinking but why shorten queue time??

Theorex31 votes

Can't tell if you are trying to be a dick or if you are actually clueless. I will assume you are being genuine, and try to spell it out for you.

They turned up the rate of autofill because the playerbase has dropped significantly.

Compile the fact that no one wants to play jungle right now.

Now you have less people overall, but even less people in the jungle and support positions. (Support by nature in NA).

So to counter longer queue times, the increase the rate of which you have to play that role or will end up playing that role.

This is normally completely irrelevant for anything below d3. Because you have a massive grouping.

Even at 700,000 people.

Let's say that it's even 1/24th of the player base is on at any given time.

That is 29,166 people per hour.

Of that you will normally play within +/-1% of your skill rating.

For someone in the 20% it won't matter much at all. (Gold)

For someone in the 10% it will start to be noticed but not really affect majority of games.

At the 3% you will feel that in every game (mid plat)

2% you have to be good to even climb now, because what used to 1% problem is now a 2% problem.

1% have fun.

If you are wondering that the old 1% problem was it was.

1 game per month diamond 5 players. Playing against people in d1/D2 when in low diamond. Massive skill difference. And you are always on the less LP gains because of 1 game a month players.

But now with a lower player base, all of that is shifted down an additional %. Thus inadvertently affecting all elos until gold.

Gold is a normalized section, that doesn't really affect anything.

Because gold doesn't normally feel the small changes in the game. And silver and bronze don't 100% of the time.

Aka.

Less players, less people playing specific roles = massive queue time spike.

Let's say out of 100 players, 4 are playing support and 5 are playing jungle.

You got 2 games of no auto filled, which is 20 players. So 80% of the community is dealing with auto filled. If you increase queue times for try players. Then you are still the minimum increasing it to 15 minute queue times.

Auto fill saves time. So that they can get "more people playing the game".

BigFBear2 votes

For someone in the 20% it won't matter much at all. (Gold)

In S8 when I climb through Gold/Plat (and I was hard stucking in Plat) I had 1:40 queue time. Atm I have a Smurf in Gold1 with 0-20 seconds queue time with a disgusting amount of uneven games while my Jungle in D3 has 1:40 with complete even and fine games. So I can't approve your argument. My Dia games are 1000% more even and fair than my Gold1 games.

WeaselRune1 votes

Rank is less important than your hidden MMR.

I always tell people to look up the story how a player managed to keep his rank Bronze 1, while playing with a Plat MMR.

Chances are the smurf won games and had high stats per game. This fast tracks you to higher and higher MMR. At Gold 1, chances are your hidden MMR is as high as your main.

Though maybe you threw games on your smurf, idk, but if your win rate is 55%+ its half a division up, if its 60%+ its probably a whole division higher.

Yup, stuff like this is where get woke go broke comes from, its not believing in that stuff specifically that causes it, instead its the mindset it fosters of i am right and anyone who disagrees with me is a inhuman monster who supports [insert horrible act here]. Because when you constantly believe you are correct you stop making wise decisions and it affects balancing in a bad way and since they cannot not be right they ignore feedback and make the game continuously worse which results in players straight up quitting for other things.

To be clear i am not saying that being pro woman or pro whaterver causes this its just that the mentality seems to build up in those groups, ironstylus was a great red who kept feedback in mind while also being supportive of females while also not attacking and mocking male gamers and i wish that was true of more reds.

Not that it matters at this point they have 100% abandoned league and are throwing more of their talent into their new unannounced game.

dude WHY! do you think riot understands sarcasm? THEY DONT FFS!

AnotherFeeder7 votes

Lel, wtf is with all the people talking about "lower playerbase" being the reason. You could have taken those same players and swapped which team some were on and balanced that game. Though honestly ive seen much worse, your average was only like 2 ranks away from theirs.

Today I had 7 trash teams out of 8 games. NINETY PERCENT OF MY GAMES WERE LOST BEFORE THEY EVEN STARTED. In those 8 games, I had like 5 trolls. People who afk because you pushed lane. Then int every lane. In my last game, top was 1/11 and jungler 1/6. I was support, and they fed early. I had absolutely nothing to do with it. And it's not the first time. I had tons of chain bad teams. I can believe in some degree of coincidence, but that's too much to be random. Here is one experiment I made in my games : compared winrates of both teams : https://i.ibb.co/kqVybH0/percents.jpg

ÉvelynnGod1 votes

That's not a matchmaking issue. Low elo is insanely easy to carry friend. Try maybe reviewing your game play and work on improving.

LOOOOOL. Are you trolling or you just never played at low elo bc u buy accs?

ÉvelynnGod1 votes

It's hard to admit you're flawed in a game like League, I get it. But if you want to improve, blaming anything and everything else doesn't help at all. Me making a tangible claim of skewed matchmaking is not the same as you deflecting on the matchmaking system (and teammates) in Silver because you're frustrated. My main currently is currently P2 and this one is P4. I didn't get there from magical luck in the sky. While some people may think I'm a great player, I don't consider myself good at this game and I am CONSTANTLY learning. Even if my teammate makes a vital mistake, I blame myself because I know there's always something I'm doing wrong. There's always something you can do different to improve and you can't find that by deflecting. Just my 2 cents...

ÉvelynnGod1 votes

Also, I'm stuck in P2 currently because I'm just not good enough/knowledgeable enough to climb at the moment. It's the same for you mate.

G0dEmperorTrump1 votes

I'm afraid I don't buy lies about "skills" and "improvement" when 4/5 of your team are picked by an entity who's wealth is based on you playing the game more. But you're free to believe what you want

ÉvelynnGod1 votes

So you're saying Challenger players are just robots created by Riot Games as propaganda? High elo players (Plat+) aren't good at the game, they're just super lucky or they bought accounts from Riot in some secret underground market? Every single person that's ever been good at the game started somewhere. They definitely didn't sit around and complain about how they can't climb because of everyone else's fault. You need some help man. Defecting on just a game like that demonstrates how you handle your problems in real life... that's def. not healthy my man. Oh well, have fun on the rift.[slayer-jinx-unamused]
