With the new champion select, you are already locked into your position from the start. Which means that first pick does not have the option to counter pick. Doesn't it make sense for the earlier picks to get bans now that roles are predetermined?

The first 2 players' job is to quickly select a highly priority champion before the enemy team does.

Only applies to competitive and highest elo games. Other don't have enough champs to trade, or,tbh, don't care to bother cause trades in lower elos tend to go bad quite often.

Otherwise, why should they even care about who gets to pick or ban if they prefer to being quiet throughout the whole Champ Select?
Onegarion1 votesSometimes I wish people would just use the "Intend to pick" option. I hate when people piss and moan because I banned fiora, malphite, or any other champ I find annoying at the time and they wanted to play them, but said nothing and didn't use the pre-pick system.
There are a lot of problems that would be solved if peopel would just open their mouth.

But yeah, you get first pick now - enjoy being counterpicked. Nothing good about it. Previously, you had a call priority to you favourite role. Now... there's literally nothing good about being above someone in the pick order.
