Gangplank tips?

Played a game or two as him today, and I think I like his playstyle pretty well.

I like have a global "I must SAVE (well, assist) my Ally!" button, and I'm honestly probably the first person to go off on his own to push a creep wave in my games. Even though I won't outright ignore my team, when I'm snowballing, I'm definitely one to push my lane rather than roaming for kills. (Plus if I do end up going with the splitpush style for top lane, I'd feel less dirty using Gangplank than I would a Tryndamere or something)

Core Items? Starting Items? Masteries (Keep in mind some masteries are being buffed next patch)? Which ult upgrade would you prioritize, or is it just based on what the team/situation calls for?

And mildly off topic, but character-wise, do you prefer Classic Gangplank (Post-Burning Tides), or Captain Gangplank (Pre-Burning Tides)?

Farm Q, ulti cross map, get gold from assists and Q, build a bunch of damage, win.

Shooting your barrels for multiple minion kills will net you more silver serpents than if you shoot each minion one at a time.

I usually go with corruption potion for extra poke, try to rush trinity or at least get a sheen as your first item since it procs on-hit effects, from there on I usually like tank because critplank just doesn't do it for me anymore. Also place one barrel into bushes and then bait your enemies and place another at their sides and shoot the one in the bush for massive surprise poke, for his ult go for the speed buff or the big cannonball. Hes an amazing duelist and has a lot of tf potential.

gangplank is a late game monster, so don't worry about spamming q early to farm because youll run out of mana really fast. wait to use your q to farm until about level 4 when you can pop your barrels with it. as for masteries just go thunderlords or grasp of the undying, his core items are triforce and ie, other than that you can build him with some defense or as a tank buster. just take standard ad top masteries
