Tell me why I should prefer the new Urgot over the old Urgot

Hello everyone, I'm still not feeling the new Urgot. I just want some feedback from anyone to convince me that the new Urgot is stronger or better than before.

Why did I love Urgot before his rework in the 7.15 update? Many reasons, mainly because he already was a tank but also a ranged one. This made him unique. You could poke from a good range without being too close to enemies. When you landed your Noxian Corrosive Charge, you could then fire about 3 Acid Hunters while they are still being locked onto the enemy (along with a few auto attacks in between). Normally if they aren't tanks, that could kill them. This was highly satisfying to me especially if they flashed over a wall and you land that Acid hunter on them and they still die. Your Zaun-Touched Bolt Augmenter and Hyper-Kinetic Position Reverser would help you stay alive during fights. Death's Dance would benefit you more before than now because his Q was his primary damage source. His Terror Capacitor was a shield that helped him be tank like too, somewhat like his Purge ability. His Noxian Corrosive Charge also gave him armor reduction on enemies effected by this ability which was a really nice bonus to him, helps kill tanks. You could build full lethality/armor penetration builds on him or go somewhat or full tank. Builds were versatile, and so was choosing a lane to fight in.

Some negatives in his old kit was that he was mana hungry, which was never a problem for me since I had mana runes to counter that so I wasn't forced to build items that gave you mana like a Manamune or a Frozen Heart. If you missed landing your Noxian Corrosive Charge on an enemy when they start attacking you, you would have to just keep using your Acid Hunter with good aim and also make a good guess with those in case they turn invisible with one of their abilities. His visual look was unpleasant to most people.

His new kit does have positives even though his old kit dished out damage quickly. His new ultimate (Fear Beyond Death) does damage and kills enemies under 25% health after being activated. You have 4 seconds to get their health that low for it to automatically reel them in to kill them or you could just click R again to reel them in. This is highly effective against tanks or enemies that you want dead first if you can land it. This can kill a Braum at full health if he gets in between the person you ulted and is about to be reeled in. If someone like Amumu has knight's vow activated on someone like Vayne and you kill Vayne with your ult, then Amumu also dies. Enemies who witness Urgot killing someone with his ult, they become terrified for 1.5 seconds. His Disdain knocks an enemies and can stun them for a short time. His Purge ability applies on hit effects and gives him a shield based on bonus health. His Corrosive Charge gives good damage and can slow an enemy. His Echoing Flames passive can damage enemies based on their maximum health and some of your AD. This is good against tanks and wave clearing. His whole new look is really good and better though I do have to admit.

There are negatives to his new kit. Some of his abilities have a slight delay on them like his Fear Beyond Death and Corrosive Charge. The delay on his ult could make you miss hitting your enemy. You have to get close to deal damage compared to his old kit. You rely more on your passive than any other ability now to damage enemies. You can get poked more easily than before, ex. someone like Vayne or any other ADC. His new kit makes him only a tank, instead of being ranged like before. Your build is more like a tank now and it's harder to build anything other than tank items. Champions like Tryndamere or Olaf can cancel his ult. Also, anyone with Guardian Angel can cancel his ult too if the passive isn't on cooldown.

So in my final thoughts, Urgot isn't unique anymore and he's just a regular tank now. You can't really pick any lane to play in like before. It's only top and sometimes jungle now. He does look more visually appealing now, that's the only part of his new self I love. Please give me your thoughts on why Urgot is better now than before. I wish he only had a visual update and maybe that Star Guardian skin come out for him.

I dont like new urgod. The previous urgod was so fun to play because you could 3 shot squishys mid game with your Q. I was hoping the rework was just gonna fix his ult. But they changed everything including the artillery which made urgod fun.

I'll be honest - I wasn't a fan of the old Urgot in any way. So I'm not going to tell you why you should play new Urgot over the old one. Instead, I'm going to say why the new Urgot is an interesting experience, and possibly in a healthier spot than the old one.

First, new Urgot has a much more cohesive kit. Old Urgot had a few interesting combos, namely the Noxian Corrosive Charge+Acid Hunter combo like you mentioned above, but most of his kit was too disparate. He was torn between being a ranged damage dealer that spammed Q a la Ezreal and a durable tank that wanted to be in the middle of things. It made it very difficult to make Urgot good, since if he was both incredibly tanky and a great ranged damage threat, it'd be almost impossible to deal with him. New Urgot fixes that by drastically limiting his range, but giving him tools to succeed while close up. Sure, you can't kill targets from very far away, but if you're able to get in close you have tremendous damage and durability.

Secondly, new Urgot is far from just a tank. Each shotgun knee deals a surprising amount of damage, and with the ability to stack up Cleaver quickly Urgot can decimate targets in extended fights. He won't often burst someone down like old Urgot could, but he can output a pretty crazy amount of punishment in fights. New Urgot's also got a lot more utility than old Urgot's Flash-ult combo - he can flip targets for his friends to kill and sets up evasive or high priority targets for an instakill if they play too risky.

Sure, Urgot is considerably less reliable than his previous incarnation, but unreliability means that he's rewarded a lot more for success. Landing a Corrosive Charge in lane can almost guarantee a Disdain follows, which then forces your opponent into a guaranteed bad trade thanks to Purge. Hitting your ult applies a decent slow and gives you the opportunity to execute them with no ability to escape, plus an AoE fear. It rewards good Urgots for being good, whereas before all Urgot had to do is land E and then press Q as much as possible.

Obviously none of this changes the fact that Urgot is drastically different than he was before, but he's healthier overall and has a distinct niche in the game.

Why I think old Urgot isn't suited:

  • Somewhat toxic to fight against. Once you got hit by his E, your one option to counteract is to run away from his point & click casting range.

  • Does not have much means of escape. He's still very immobile & not very tanky, and can be easily killed by having group of enemies ganking up on him.

  • His ult was never used "tactically" almost all the time, and by tactically, I meant its Fear kit was almost absent at all & wasn't used to attempting to swap enemy's position over walls & such. It's nothing more than a "I need instant damage reduction while snaring you" spam button.

  • Not much teamfight capabilities. He is single-target heavy unlike how the new Urgot works now.

his old ult was inconsistent and had little self synergy with the rest of his kit.

meanwhile all 4 abilities of rework urgot are designed to work together.
