Well to be honest it should. In the end the matches you play are solo/duo ranked. The people you end up playing are random. Some of them you might never get to play with in the same team again or ever again. The fact is that the W/L ratio the system is based off is a bad factor to be based on especially when it comes down to hoping that the teammates you get are good players or not. I can be a good player but because I keep getting paired with bad players will keep on lowering my MMR which ofc will cause me to be paired with even worse players. And that will than go on ahead and affect my W/L ratio. And because of that the system will consider I am a lousy player because I am loosing more than winning. I had a match just today where I played
on mid ofc. I controlled my lane got a few kills, helped with securing drake, assisted my team whenever in teamfights, roaming to different lanes that needed help when my own lane was secure and allowed me to, split pushing and all that. Needless to say I had done everything right for the most ( I won't deny I had moments where I missed a Charm or two ). I basically ended doing very well and even carrying my team ending up on 22/8/17 score. That match win awarded me only 16 LP. So far so good, a bit too less when you take into account it was a tight match.
Than I move onwards to my 2nd match. I pretty much played the same.
mid lane doing everything I done in my previous match. But we had a less than impressive
adc and a
that mostly kept missing on landing his abilities. I did my very best to help my team as I had done before having a lot of assists and kills and all that. And yet they didn't listen and kept at playing their own way and making bad decisions which cost the whole team ( most notably mistakes such as pursuing a target in the jungle only to have a recently spawned ally of theirs intercept and kill them ). And we of course lost the match and I get a LP loss of 20 LP.
So because of those two players my team loses and I along with others that tried their best and played well get to be punished with such a hard blow to our LP in spite of the fact that we did our best.
Look I know it's a team game and most likely a lot of people will reply to me that maybe it's my fault too for loosing, and don't worry, I'm aware I'm not the best of the best, but let's be honest for a moment here. Sometimes no matter how much you try you can't win if only 3 of your teammates do their best while the rest keep screwing up. If I would've been terrible too during that match I'd understand the severe penalty to my LP. But most matches I end with a positive score and I do help a lot other lanes when the moment allows it.
Yet the game still punishes me for it because the game considers that I am a bad player just based on the fact that I lost instead of taking into consideration the fact I indeed lost but I had a positive score which can speak otherwise that I am not such a bad player when compared with my other teammates with whom I lost.
And again I say it should take into consideration your personal performance such as K/D/A rather than if you W/L ratio because in the end I play with randoms. So to call me a bad player because I can't form a proper winning team with randoms is BS. And if I ever want to be competitive and go professional I'd obviously form a team with people I do know and I played and will play with in the future.
And again it's solo/duo ranked. It makes no sense to have my skills as a player judged by W/L ratio because I can get lucky and get a team of randoms where I perform well and we win and after get a team of randoms where I perform well but lose. Also, like someone on the boards said, no matter how good you are you can't win them all. Eventually you will lose one or two matches and to have those say 5 won matches worth of LP completely ruined by 2 following losses in spite of good performance on a personal level doesn't seem right to me.
If Riot wants a good ranking system they need to take into consideration the personal level of skill the player has each match which can be determined mostly by K/D/A. W/L is influenced by team performance. But the problem is the inconsistency of the members forming that said team. So when you consider that K/D/A can be far more consistent with each match and as a result far more reliable to judge a player's skill level.
