The EXACT reason why 3,4 and 5 man solo queue doesn't work.
THE FIRST HAND EXPERIENCE:
_Short version: _
I'm salty.
Long Version:
First off I want to point out the this queue was ONLY created for people who want to do a ranked game with two or three other people. I on the other hand ONLY "solo" queue. The reason I do this is because I want to know where I stack up with competitors around the world on an even playing field. The fact that teams are now allowed nerfs this immensely because of this: There is an argument that if you get a three man team, the enemy team will most likely have a three man team. This argument is true but it ignores the fact that at that point: when your team has a three man team and when the enemy team has a three man team, a new level of play was introduced to the game. These six people now have a huge advantage: FRIENDLY, UNDERSTOOD, PLANNED OUT, VOICE communication. In fact this advantage is an UNREACHABLE advantage for everyone else in queue. The point I am trying to make is that EVEN THOUGH the win rate should technically stay the same, SOME people don't care if they win or lose, they care about bettering their own game, learning more about the game and playing on a fair, even playing field to see those results. The fact that this queue has now added a DISTINCT advantage over solo queueing competitors doesn't allow for accurate feedback, and therefore makes it nearly impossible to know when you are or when you are not improving your gameplay and communication skills. In fact lately there has been a HUGE influx of games where there has been ZERO communication. My team was already talking amongst each other so there was no reason to take into consideration my baron call or when to push to tower or anything like that. This new queue definitely works for people who want to play with two or three other people in ranked: HEAVEN FORBID FOUR OR ONE, but two or three yes this queue works for that absolutely.
THE PROBLEM:
Here is the technical problem though: if you make this into a separate queue (So that there is three: Ranked 5, Dynamic which will have any amount, and solo queue), everyone that likes playing solo queue will just go to the solo queue: we already know that distinct disadvantage that will come from queueing into dynamic queue by ourselves. We might not know it consciously but it's definitely there subconsciously. That means that four person teams will barely ever find that last solo queue player to fill their team; there will be nobody queuing alone in dynamic queue. Which means dynamic queue will have been created for that very select group of people who refuse to play with four other people, can't (technically can but will never find a game) play with three other people, absolutely love and need to play with two other people, are okay with playing with one other person (this was already an option), and hate playing by themselves.
THE SOLUTION:
Have a ranked 5v5 queue. (Five people on each team) 5 vs 5 Have a ranked solo queue. (Only one person can queue, not two) 1 1 1 1 1 vs 1 1 1 1 1 Have a ranked dynamic queue. (You can play with as many as you want)
The most important thing to do in this situation though is to reward the people who are playing alone in dynamic queue to a point where they would actually consider playing ranked dynamic. For example less of an impact on LP and IP gains when losing a match or a higher chance to find hex tech items. Or maybe their own summoners icon, and extra reward for earning silver or gold or something along those lines. Nothing too big but just enough incentive that there would be a clear reason to actually play in dynamic queue alone.
CONCLUSION:
I think the whole point of this dynamic queue was to promote friendly team oriented playing but the unintentional side effect is that not only did it promote it, it gave an ADVANTAGE to it. So now people are playing on these teams because they want to win, not because they want a fair fight. I for one want a fair fight, five solo's vs. five solo's. Nobody is buddy buddy, everyone is just coming into the game with a clean slate and everyone has to adapt to their teammates and learn to cooperate without already having that foundation before the game even started.
