A Constructive Rant on the AFK Situation

First and foremost I apologize if this is the inappropriate section for this topic.

Alright, we are all familiar with this subject, it infuriates many of us and has been giving me a headache as of late. I'll be as constructive as I can be here but a lot of this will also be venting pent up frustration about the current, or lack of, system that should be handling people that AFK during a game, especially in the ranked scene.

  • What is the problem? In ranked play as we all know, people that AFK just ruin the fun for everyone on top of making it nearly impossible for people to climb out of whatever rank they are stuck in (Please don't turn this into a "don't blame your mistakes on someone/something else, you are where you belong" conversation). There's no way of getting around people that AFK. Even if someone on the team is fed it will be a difficult task to carry the game into a win. Either the fed person will have to split and try to end the game or they will have to group where they will be at a numbers disadvantage. There's no way around it.

  • Why the current system seems inefficient. Sure, we can report people for AFKing and eventually after they AFK so many times they'll get a ban of some sort or whatever, but that still doesn't make up for the fact that people that had nothing to do with it will be punished anyways by losing LP. Not to mention out of the thousands of players that are playing, how often do people get banned for AFKing? Since its such a big problem still I feel like the system isn't making that big of an impact on AFKers. If I can be proved otherwise I'd be glad to see the statistics on it. You can only lose so much by the same cause before it kills the fun.

  • So here's my proposal; Well obviously systems are always difficult to incorporate, especially in a game that has such a large player base but I currently I feel like there isn't much of a system in place either way. Why not make it so if someone AFKs within the game for longer than ~10-15 minutes, give the team a Loss Forgiven and be done with it? Well now comes the issue of people AFKing on purpose for a buddy that is in his promos. Simple, if someone is in a duo team and one of team members AFK, don't provide either of them with a Loss Forgiven. Now someone will say, I can't control what the person I play with does, why should I get punished? Well, choose wisely when you find people to play with, don't associate yourself with toxic players that will AFK simply because the game isn't going their way.

Let's hear your thoughts on this, I know this subject has been beaten into the ground but if we're constructive about it maybe eventually Riot will be able to devise a system that can handle this issue efficiently.

Thanks guys.

that duo thing makes no sence. and mostly your duo wont "randomly afk" just so you dont lose promo. Why? becasue they would have to be afk for the 10-15 minutes and AFKs iim sure already loss a lot of LP during that loss. Last i checked im not taking an lp loss of like 25 or more just so my friend gets a loss prevented. LOL (course my lp number was made up because ive never AFKed and lost lp)

When discussing this, we should pay attention to the difference between a player who AFKs for whatever reason and a player who is never able to connect to the servers as well.

As long as your don't AFK/rage quit, there are 5 chances for AFK people on the other team, and only 4 slots on yours; so after playing a bunch of games, the AFK's will balance out. Hell, you may even win more games due to an AFK than lose. It's a problem that doesn't need to be fixed because the system already compensates for it.

Sure it's annoying as hell, but its just something you have to accept.
