A big part of the problem is that the people balancing the game barely play it now'a days.

Drizzt1712 votes

Yup and the worst thing is they decided to do insanely gamechanging patches midseason, you can mess with the players so much every year. Part of playing this game was to accept the guy who made the decision of game balance was a silver janna main, but people can take so much things before they get angry.

Apart from the game state, the client has got so much bugs since clash it is insane, last year I cant even remember client bugs and now we have a 1 every week.

This shit get says a lot and no one can ever back it up.

We don't see how much time they spend on private accounts testing out these changes at all and everyone jumps on the "but ghoatcrawler said" hype train, ignoring the fact that he plays the game.

Riot decided to

Keep champion damage relatively the same

Add previous masteries and current runes (Shortening games with higher damage)

Add permanent buffs from dragons (Shortening games with permanent RNG damage buffs / Forcing players to contest over them)

Add Rift Herald (Shortening games with tower killing siege weapon / Forcing players to contest over them)

Power up Baron buff (Shortening games with game ending siege buffs / Forcing players to contest over them)

Decreasing tower damage & durability (Shortening games with paper towers / Rip laser towers / Base towers only heal to highest 1/3 threshold to punish defenders who keep enemies away from their towers for long periods of time because logic lmao)

Decreasing exp in the jungle and loading more onto Scuttle Crab (Favoring early game champs / Forcing players to contest over them)

Don't worry, I'm sure Riot has our best interests at heart and believes a game where nice to have bonuses is not as fun as a game where you're forced to fight over bonuses or lose. /s

Pika Fox3 votes

Dragon buffs are far weaker than previous dragons. Global gold/xp was far stronger and more mandatory.

3TWarrior1 votes

according to the wiki, dragon hasn't granted bonus gold to the team since season 4 and was more useful because of the experience bonus that it gave to the team

oddly enough, dragon actually used to bestow a permanent buff to the team that was the basic equivalent of all of these new buffs but less powerful individually unless you managed to claim 5 dragons within the span of the match

Pika Fox2 votes

Those were pretty much short interim changes that lasted like 1 season each.

ALL good changes. Fuck all that farming and passive shit. I want TDM.

Wyrmblade1 votes

I like TDM too, but it's not fun when the fights last 0.5 seconds because of damage creep. It's also really not something LoL should focus on because the game isn't built for it and HotS already does "Quick team death match MOBA" a lot better.

Considering that, in general, people who are enjoying the game are too busy playing it to post in the boards it makes complete sense.

SSmotzer12 votes

Honestly, I don't know where you have been but LoL has always been like this. There has always been players who complain that their main is getting reworked and vowed to never play league again, only to come back and complain about their other main that is getting reworked.

Not to mention Riot throwing massive meta shifting changes into the game with every season that causes the meta to do some crazy crap before going back to how it was. Remember mid smite Ezreal? Everyone hated it.

The reason why que times are so long is because everyone is playing URF.

They just ruined it, starting in S7 and doing even worse in pre-season and the whole S8 so far ^^

its probably the total time waiting through the dodges to actually get into the game

If only I could get dodges. These teams are toxic bad.

It's simple, if somebody's fav champ isn't op, the game is unfair.

It is League of True Damage now.

Danjeng1 votes

Ryze potential rework (now iceboxed) actually changed his fluxed Q damage to 50% true damage lol. Good luck building MR against that shit.

Just like a lot of companies today, they got greedy for our money and started caring way too much about the top .005% of players and threw the rest of the players in the trash.

MORGANK FREELANE6 votes

Basically, anything can be played anywhere, games are snowbally and often decided pre 15 minutes, towers are paper, ADC class was removed, Nerfed ADCs, Nerfed ADC items; Nerfed shielding supports that can protect ADCs.

Pro Play isnt fun to watch, it became madness at this point, it doesnt feel like pro play at all.

Faker is playing/has played Darius bot, Jax Mid, and Taric support.

Add to that the incredible Riot Games Balance team and you get League of Madness.

Arcane Blue Boi4 votes

I just backdoored the 2 nexus turrets WITHOUT minions in URF as AZIR the other day (both full hp). Thats league in 2018 for you..

Tarquin963 votes

Where do you have 12 min que times?

Jeanne fan club3 votes

Yup everything is the same as literally any other patch, except for the queue times. That's kind of weird. Game isn't that bad right now, honestly this new meta is as fun as when the new runes were implemented. I'm enjoying it.

hi ìm groot3 votes

I actually think aatrox looks cool... haven't played him and it seems like he sucks, but he LOOKS kinda cool with that huge sword slung on his back.

remakoro3 votes

Ya know... LoL feels like such load of crap that i actually installed HotS today. And enjoyed it much more. And that despite me hating hots for its simplicity. I actually felt that i have more freedom in builds than i had in lol. Despite me hating hots for it being so casual. Cuz now lol feels even more casual than hots. Despite me having no problems with toxicity - i enjoy it. Despite me having no problem with meta - im actually happy about this absolute clown fiesta that starts in champion select when its absolutely impossible to guess who gonna end up on which lane. Despite me being able to stall or comeback lost games almost just as often as before. It just feels like crap.

Automated Riven1 votes

Builds in hots? You mean talent choices?

remakoro1 votes

Yes. Talent choices. Different choices can give you pretty different results while still being viable. I tend to play in hots heroes that can have more than two builds. Like Abathur. Quite similar to how i got stuck with Teemo in LoL.

What happened is 'change for the sake of change'. Enjoy your new game!

Wild Geese2 votes

It's pretty simple, the balance and gameplay team is doing a bad job.

Something is messed up with Riot's direction of this game, look at the season 9 ranked changes for instance. Their vision is not in sync with what the customer wants.

Do yourself a favor and uninstall this joke of a game. I uninstalled a few weeks ago and couldn't be happier. I had the day off today and was kinda bored so I decided to reinstall and see where things were at.. took one game to uninstall again and realize why I stopped playing in the first place.

The happy aspect is impossible. Pleasing everyone is impossible... I wanna side with you, but aside from the toxicity, idek how valid your points are in the big picture.

15422 votes

it has been going downhill since Season 6, instead of fixing runes and balancing them riot decided to mix them with masteries and give champs a ton of dmg, unnecessary changes and reworks to champs that are fine, opening the jungle for every champion out there, like, you have a smite? fine you can jungle, in the past every champ had its role, armor is pretty much useless since everyone has dumb amounts of dmg, a game it's decided round minute 10 no point in fighting past 15 unless you have the trolls that vote no just to waste time.

RyzeTheSmurfMage1 votes

The way I see it: LoL in it's current state is fun to play with friends. Without friends, it's kinda toxic.

FireDrizzle1 votes

Aatrox is fun, just weak out of lane cos he has no ultimate.

Kairoptra1 votes

Why are people downvoting comments saying that it's just the people who go on sites? I mean, it makes perfect sense; if you are dissatisfied with something, you're gonna complain about it. If you're not, you go on doing what you were already doing because you have no reason to be vocal. There is no possible means of determining what the demographic is in terms of satisfaction when not everybody voices their opinion.

12 min que? What?

Azeranth1 votes

A large part of the issue is Riot fails to realise whats OP and will not fix it

Tormentula1 votes

They realize what's OP, they just have no clue what the right approach to it is.

  1. buffing/introducing a counter into the meta
  2. a global issue (items, picks it counters, snowball, runes, etcl.)
  3. individual nerfs (specific parts of the kit that are overtuned, need removed, or syngerize too well)
  4. design flaws (OP =/= broken, but if a champ is broken it can be really hard to fix it when the design itself will never work in a healthy way, i.e. zoe, yas, eve, graves, etc. it can take a lot of time to decide what approach to take since it can be as hard as a rework without pissing people off or causing the need for a revert, see leblanc and malzahar.)
  5. possible predictions on how upcoming patches affect them.

Usually they gut option 3 and just number change option 4, or they gut option 4 then steroid a bunch of stats into a part of the kit they don't belong in as compensation or to bring them back from the dead, all while forgetting about option 5 so when something does happen it either doesn't nothing or makes them so much worse and harder to bring back.

Azeranth1 votes

A quote from Meddler "I don't think Irelia was really all that OP, and didn't need the nerfs she got" Yeah, sure, which is why Irelia was pick ban in every region and tournament with a 80%+ winrte in professional.

Also, the journey of 1000 miles begins with a single step. DO SOMETHING. fix champions who have something fundamentally wrong with them. There are so many champions who have something horrendously wrong with them, but RIot has done nothing. Things which make it so that a champion must exist in a fragile state of useless or OP with no skill based in between.

Agent Corgi1 votes

It's pure bedlam right now, I'll try breaking it down the best I can.

1.) They made some pretty hefty changes to Items/Champions over the last few months that completely changed everything around. Mage Changes were made to make Itemization less linear, but alot of people say that the Mages were pretty much nerfed completely after this & the Mana Regen changes. Jungle Changes were done to kill Early game Pressure & promote early invades, but this more over made it so 5 Junglers are the only ones being played. AD Itemization Changes were done to make ADC builds less Linear like the Mage Changes & to "Open up Botlane", Crit Based ADC's were weakened severely in their Early game & in some cases are being outclassed by Mages & even Bruisers/Skirmishers.

2.) Aatrox Aatrox, SwainSwain & Irelia Irelia have been completely overhauled. Aatrox went from being a Auto-Attack based Diver to a Juggernaut/Diver Hybrid (Diver once he hits 6 thanks to his revive), He feels like a completely new champion that retained almost nothing from his previous incarnation. Swain is still a Battle Mage & is still pretty cool in my opinion, he was hated at first but I think people have come to accept him as he is now. Irelia feels a bit more fleshed out compared to her previous incarnation & is quite strong in the right hands.

3.) Zoe Zoe , Kai'Sa Kaisa & Pyke are completely new to the game. Zoe is a Burst Mage that 95% of the community hates because of how her kit works, she used to oneshot people with Dorans ring on release. Kai'Sa is a ADC that can be played AD or AP, she's quite notorious at the moment for some reason (I actually don't know why she's being hated). Pyke is a Assassin-Support that I haven't seen many complaints on so far, I think he's in a good place at the moment.

4.) Not so sure about the Client Issues or 12 minute queues, but think the VERSUS event might have something to do with it (I could eb wrong about this). Alot of people love URF (ARURF will never live up to it's expectations, but will do..) & Event-Only loot is something alot of people are trying to get their hands on before Versus ends July 10th.

5.) There's alot of Toxicity mainly because of people's frustration with the direction League is going & they're taking it out on their fellow players. There's also the Matchmaking being busted & putting players into matches where they have little chance of winning, that's another issue that's being prevalent. You also have other players that just act up just for the Lolz. Not much you can do about that besides reporting them after the game is over, unfortunately some players would rather verbally retaliate instead (which leads to them being punished by the IFS with a Chat restriction/Permaban)

Think I hit all the points, might have left a few out & some of this might be inaccurate. Also, I'm sorry about the wall of text.

chipndip11 votes

12 minute queue times?

Alright, you guys take complaining too far

kurnubego1 votes

People were always complaining. Nothing new. The start of complaining from the eyes of the complainer usually commense after a year of playing the game. Or generally after the honey moon ends.

I would say around 95% of all the threads and complains have absolutely zero merit. And remaining 5% generally are just partially true based on narrow sighted analysis.

The number of threads on the boards indicates nothing. As people who feel satisfied with the game simply play it. People who aren't for numerous reasons search where to put their frustrations.

The actual data Riot depends on is questionnaires distributed via game client and not the boards. Although boards can be useful sometimes developing a concept.

The toxicity is not league of legends problem. But just how people are wired and react to social circumstance. It's not something the game invented. It's what people are when forced to play into circumstance they perceive unfair (which is often fault of their own biases, however it's irrelevant for the person it feels real). People value punishment of wrongdoers more than rewards for themselves. And this is very well documented fact of social psychology. LoL cannot solve the problem, only put incentives to try minimize such behavior, but the root problem will ALWAYS be there as long as human animal exists.

I guess that's all I have to say here.

BeatinWarDrumz1 votes

Not that much. There have always been metas, only big problem RN is the funnle strat. Aatrox rework is not great but riot can't get reworks right every time. Queue times are exactly the same, there haven't been many client issues, and toxicity has always been part of the game, imo it's getting better with honors

SpecterVonBaren1 votes

Nothing, it's the same bitching and moaning that the boards always have.
