Help Me Not Suck (Please)

I used to play a lot of league back in... Oh, I dunno, 2012? Lost my laptop to some bad times and fell out of it. I finally have a shiny new gaming laptop, and decided to jump back into the chaos. I remember being average at best; not necessarily throwing my prone form into the enemy's hands at the first sign of combat while also not necessarily destroying all champions that dare grace my presence. Friends here and there have continued to play or follow big teams, and as a conversation survival strategy my brain has remembered most of the basics, and I picked everything back up pretty fast when babying myself in training mode. Got my ass handed to me real good when I tried playing with the big kids, so I stuck to the bots instead. I moved onto Co-Op VS A.I on intro, and after a bit of a learning curve got into a pretty decent groove. Now... The problem.

For some ungodly reason, I am competent until put into Beginner mode, where I am suddenly godawful at everything I touch. Seriously. I've sworn off trying to play with real people for now, and am only doing Co-Op vs A.I. till I get my sh-t straightened out, but even that I suck at somehow. I can handle Intro mode no problem, but every time I get comfortable playing a champion and try to go into Beginner, I am suddenly competing against myself for the title of World's Best Feeder. I've been trying to read up, and feel like I understand the basics, I'm just not sure where I'm going wrong.

The champions I've gotten accustomed to playing are Veigar, Garen, and Panthion. Usually I call top lane, and on Intro I can hold my own up there and push through with relative ease, minimal death, and a decent kill count. It's when I try to move out of Intro that I seem to be catching a snag somewhere. I've noticed the bots put on top in Beginner are almost always heavy hitters (guy with an ice club that deals what I can only describe as 10d12 emotional pain straight to the heart and another I'm not sure how to describe) that simply do not agree with just one close-ranged fighter with no healer (Garen and Panthion), and on bottom lane it's ranged attackers I struggle to survive long enough against to even consider hitting back. I know this now, but don't know what to do with that information. I've tried everything from waiting them out and striking when it's opportune for me then sprinting back to the sweet, sweet safety of the turret I'm barely protecting (which usually means I spend the whole game holding off minions which is boring), to running in full-force and doing as much damage as possible without dying, repeat but WITH dying, and a mix of all three.

I hug my turrets when needed, I run and avoid when I realize my attacks aren't doing jack, and I try to follow suggested builds for my chosen champions to a T (now that I know they exist). I know I haven't been back in the swing of LoL for long, but I feel like I'm doing something somewhere horribly wrong to be failing so consistently at something so seemingly simple. Any advice? I honestly don't understand what I need to be doing to get better, and at this point I'm worried I'll be stuck on the intro setting forever. Feel free to read me to filth, I could honestly use the guidance lol

You need to learn a basic knowlage of all of the games champions so your not surprised by what they can do.

If you need hands on learning and muscle memory like I did? Try to play 3 vs AI games with each champion during free weak.

If you can learn from book smarts? Spend time going over every champion page on the lol Wiki.

You also need to know all items. That way you can hit TAB and have an idea how strong teammates and enemy champions are at that point in the game.

Thank you! That's a really good point, seeing as right now my only smarts on them are "OW. OW. OW." I'll start studying up for now so I can craft a sensible defense.

You can Download Battlerite for free if your bad at skillshots. That games a non stop Moba teamfight.

It gets old pretty fast thou cuz the Tiers on champion viability make a massive impact. The devs are also... well.... The nice way to say it is to point out Battlerite is pretty soon going to be their next dead game.

So im not entirely sure where to start but im gonna try.

First things first. Trundle Trundle Hurts like a bitch. If the player (or in this case AI) is equal skill to you and you don't completely outplay him you probably arent going to win that 1v1 in most cases. Trundle's entire life is based around dueling. His ult literally steals your stats and smacks you upside the head with them. (some smart ass is going to try and correct me here but I don't care, yes there are counter picks, but for a new player this doesn't matter. He needs so baseline black and white and the shades of gray can come later)

Next Certain champs are for certain roles. Garen and Pantheon are Top laners. Actually, both are quite strong in the meta currently. While Veig is not so much, Veigar is a mid laner, Now this isnt so incredibly important, but it matters more later. You need to learn that certain champs are for certain roles. Like if someone tries to play Veigar Jungle....... yea they are gonna have a bad time.

So How should you be handling a fight against trundle. well, there is a thing called trading. This is where you arent doing all in fights but just tickling each other and walking away. Slowly whittling each other down till one of you dies.

So While I cant exactly teach you much and arbitrarily saying concepts like trading isnt going to help you im gonna try and link some videos.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mxxdeBIwNOs This one is real basic, so there are things you are going to already know, but there are concepts that are important.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HMG1_H0nGWs this video will show you what laning tends to look like when people do it right

In the end a lot of this is going to be practice. you need to practice a lot to get to a point where you can do many things by muscle memory. I used to play Mastery Yi Mid which..... yea that ain't it chief. but as I played and gained a better understanding of the game I realized my mistakes and started finding my role. Book smarts are 60% of the game and 40% are mechanics. If you know what your opponent can do, what you can do, what every item does, and how to properly build you will get much further than if you dont.

Good Luck and Hopefully you do well. If you have questions I tend to check my boards account daily so if you reply Ill see it.

You're a true hero, my dude. Apparently I didn't know anything in the grand scheme of things. Great recc. on those videos, too. I'll definitely come back if I'm stumped. Thanks!!
