Sightstone Rework

A lot of non-tank supports lack the damage they need when they buy a sightstone, but what if there were multiple upgrades that give something other than just health? There could be one that gives ap, one that gives ad, etc.

I can't remember where I read it (perhaps you could find it on Surrenderat20's Red Post collection if you looked far enough back), but Riot's stance on such a change is that it would make the item too good, and everyone would start buying it. Riot tends to stay away from items that start to become staple on ALL champions.

For example, their upcoming changes to Locket of the Iron Solari and its pieces-- They are trying to lower their stats and gold cost so it is less inticing for a top-lane tank, and more for a tanky support. Another example could be Season 3's jungle items, which were becoming staple for champions that weren't even jungling that game. Besides the fact that they had a "Get mana and health back based on a % damage done to jungle monsters," their stats were simply too good to pass up.

I believe that if Sightstone got such upgrades, they would be used by multiple lanes. : /

Disclaimer: This is simply what I remember from a far-back red post. Riot's stance could have changed.

I'd be interested in seeing a summoner spell changed to fit the support role, which would then allow supports to build certain items that would otherwise be unavailable, or putting a mastery deep in the utility tree that would give access to the item. I don't know what other role has a huge champion pool that specs deep into the utility tree.

Then you could change the gold generation items or sightstone and allow for more stats on them. You don't even need to make it so that sightstone is unique to the utility tree, you could just make several different Ruby Sightstone upgrades (like enchants to boots) that would only be available to champions that get the final utility mastery.

Then if any champion wants Ruby Sightstone (with AP), you'd be giving up a load of points in the offense or defense tree just for a cool item that really just gives supports a reason to upgrade Blue Sightstone before the 45-55 minute mark when they have no more room for items and may as well upgrade it.
