Why did I win 7/10 placement matches and get placed in Bronze IV ?

I tried ranked last season and I wasn't prepared for it. (I sucked at the time. I will admit it) But now I have developed and honed my skills on pretty much every role available (still not fond of the adc role but that's ok ;) I can top, mid, supp, jg, and... if needed.... adc.

During my 10 placement matches for this season, I was victorious in 7 out of 10 of my games. 1 of those victories, by the way, happened to be a 4v5. Meaning I helped the team carry itself to victory when the odds were stacked against us. (DrMundo tossed the team on mundo's back and ran like crazy towards the finish line) I'm trying to figure out why I won 70% of my placement matches, yet I get placed in Bronze IV. Since I've been placed in BIV, I'v been set on this cycle of getting into series and then getting that occasional troll or 2 in a game that make the team start fighting each other in team chat. Now I've been stuck, and I don't believe it's fair that I was even put there in the first place. I know I'm not alone, there are others I've spoken to in games and on my friends list who have it worse than me.

It seems as if I was placed in Bronze IV based on previous ranked season stats. If so, I would simply like to know.... why am I paying for mistakes, that were made last season? Starting a new season SHOULD mean that it's a fresh start. A clean slate.. But now I'm swimming around with trolls and genuinely new players every other game and it seems like the only way I can climb out of Bronze is if someone higher up lets me duo with them. Then there's the toxic players who just want to beat down their own teammates mentally with no benefit to the team, even though they have a chance to reform and become better players who can help the community instead of hurting it.

Ouch. I went 3/7 and got placed in Silver 3.

Maybe the enemy team was low bronze for 7 of your games, and than silvers for 3.

Even if so, how does that effect us winning the matches? If the number of placement matches you win doesn't matter, and the game lets some ridiculous garbage logic take hold, why not just tell people to roll a dice?

Your MMR was Bronze and your performance in your placements wasn't good enough to change it. Just winning isn't the only determining factor. A 20 min win is worth loads and loads more than a 50 minute one, for example. And, even if you lose, if you drew the game out and held the enemy off for 50+ minutes, it takes that into consideration as well.

So yeah, you may have won 7/10 games, but it looks like you didn't win hard enough. So the matchmaker just assumes you haven't gotten better and dumps you where you used to be.

It sucks, I agree, but if you truly have gotten better you'll see yourself climbing before long.

My performance wasn't good enough? I performed well in all of my placements, I even carried the team in some cases. Most times I was the guy carrying the team. And in one case a match my team won was 4v5. Meaning 4 for my team and 5 for the enemy team.

Does Riot have Jay Wilson working on the ranked ladder system or something?

I don't get it.

Your definition of 'doing well' is probably a positive kda.

Lose that attitude and you'll get out of Bronze.

"probably" isn't good enough. Look at some replay evidence of someone's game before you tell them they performed poorly. If you don't have a clue, don't sit there and give a pretentious attitude towards me when I know I actually played well. Even the matches when I had to support and I had terrible KDA, I was making calls, warding, team fighting, calling pings, soloing dragon early game, etc.

You don't know me, homie. C:

Well, it means your MMR was so low last season, that this season it still is a heavy factor even after the soft reset. Basically, you dug yourself a deep, deep hole. And it's gonna take a while to dig you out.

That said, the soft reset and going so positive in your placements mean that a large quantity of the work is done already, and escaping is possible. Just keep winning more than you lose, and you will climb. If you truly have honed your skills, you will climb out. You just have a little further to go than others. ;D

Yea, honestly I think this is probably the best comment I read yet. Last season I stopped playing once I got somewhere in Silver division (so long ago I don't even remember when I stopped playing ranked consistently last year). I think team builder mighta came out about the same time when I stopped playing ranked, and I think that appealed a lot more to me as far as playing the roles I wanted for practice. Still doesn't seem right that a ranked ladder doesn't actually reset every season. I guess I will just keep paying for mistakes I made last year.

Still tho, it's pretty sad now the stuff I have to witness every bronze game. I can successfully gank a few lanes in a row with amumu, then just have a troll completely turn the team toxic and cause inward team fighting in chat.

True, but you should be able to climb out. You're just going to need to play more games to get there. The reset would have helped you out significantly, but for you to be placed so low it just may not seem like it.

tl;dnr MMR was too low, stomping bronze 5's doesn't credit highly

Okay let's look at your recent matches. You went 5/14 as LeBlanc with less than 100 cs at 52 minutes. You went 4/5 with 62 cs in 27 minutes as Mundo. You went 1/5 with 81 cs in 21 minutes as Mundo. 7/13 as LeBlanc 119 cs 40 minutes.

I'm going to be blunt with you. What are you DOING in lane? You're aware that 12 minions come down the lane every minute right? That's like 200 gold per MINUTE that you're ignoring to maybe get 300 gold from a lane opponent dying. Look, I freely admit that farm isn't everything, since high elo support mains do exist but you're blinded by what you think you should be doing in lane when you should be farming.

You're not carrying, you're getting lucky that your opponent is making more mistakes than you. If you get blasted in lane but you still farm, you can still win the game. If you farm AND get kills AND don't die, then you carry.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but my last 4 matches are not my best matches. At least 1 of those LeBlanc games I had to restart client at the beginning because the client froze up at the loading screen, and I had .5sec lag the entire match. I entered the game 5 min late, meaning I was behind in : levels, items/gold, and of course... cs.... And how is anyone supposed to play lb with half a second of lag?

Also, I supp mundo from time to time depending on what the enemy might have for a support. In match selection supp mundo does 2 things if I am 1st - 3rd pick.

  1. It confuses the enemy team to think that mundo is either top or jg.

  2. It also improves our chances of an early kill depending on how much my adc trusts a mundo supp to play well. Mundo does insane magic damage naturally, so mundo can build tanky and smash the enemy with Q to zone them off their farm. This opens the door for freezing the lane and giving our jg more opportunities to gank. And since bot laners typically don't build magic res early-mid game (or at all really in the adc's case), they have no natural defense from mundo's cleavers.... which do 15% - 25% max health in magic damage.... and it applies cc.. and it has a ridiculously low cd... And because it returns hp on hit, mundo can poke infinitely as long as the river is warded properly and the lane isn't open for ganks from the enemy jg. No worrying about oom.

**Your problem is that you simply don't believe I have the potential to play as good as I'm saying I CAN. **

Everyone has bad games. Everyone hits a point where there aren't too many options as far as pulling the entire team out of the mud. And not every game is going to have 4 other people who want to play to win as hard as I want to. Remember, I'm in elo hell man. I'm not even in silver. My teammates are naturally people who just made their first account a few weeks ago and are probably just getting into ranked. Or trolls. Or toxic players who spend more time typing hate speech to their teammates and insulting their team in all chat, rather than playing to win the game or trying to bring their team's moral up. Or, occasionally, players in just my exact situation.

And looking at my recent match history to drag some not so positive scores on here may have been your way of trying to show me something I wasn't realizing, but you can't see the footage of those matches I was playing in. So you are looking at numbers.

That's like if I looked at someone's bank account and assumed they don't work hard enough based on some numbers on a sheet of paper. Ranked system might need heimer to take a look at it.
