What does any of that have to do with the amount of LP you receive for a win?

Well LP is determined by how well you do personally in the game. Right?

Nope!

I think the way it works, from reading other board posts, is as follows:

LP is based on your MMR. :) If your MMR is higher than your ranking, you get more LP per win and lose less per loss. If your MMR is lower than your ranking, you gain less LP per win and lose more LP per loss. The basic idea is to make sure players are where they belong.

To illustrate (using made up numbers), let's say the average Bronze player has 1000 points, the average Silver player has a score of 1200 and the average gold player has a score of 1400. If you're in Bronze, but have an MMR of 1200, you will get more LP per win because your MMR is above the average for your division. You'll get even more if your MMR is 1400. This will allow you to get to silver or gold faster, where you belong based. If on the other hand you're in gold, but your MMR is 1000 or 1200, you'll gain fewer LP per win, because your MMR is below the average for your division.

From my own observations, it seems like 16 LP is just a little on the low side for a win, which means your MMR is a little below the average for your division. If you keep winning games so that your MMR rises above the average of your division, you should notice the LP per win increasing.

That's my understanding of the LP system anyway.

How can I figure out my MMR?

I don't think you can. Riot keeps it super secret.

well that does not seem nice

Seems like the true effect of this just limits, to the extreme, upward movement for players who took longer than others to hit the skill floor. I don't see much difference at all in skill levels between bronze silver and gold. Sometimes there's a gem here and there but for the most part it's all the same. The system perpetuates an "ELO hell" concept. Increasing the number of wins needed to rank up based on past games outcomes is simply unfair. I can be placed in 30 games in a row of absolute garbage (afks, people who go 1/19, etc) and yet the next 10 are all wins. The current system means that because of those 30 games, I don't rank to the next division where I should be, but someone who was in my same 10 games and didn't have those 30 games of garbage did rank up to the next division. I can't see how this is fair at all.

I don't know but I truly believe it should be. It doesn't seem like it does though.

Actually, I think it would be a huge improvement to have individual performance matter in regards to LP achievement. The current emphasizes the team and therefore complete randomness that's outside of your control.

I think someone that goes 28/3/14 with 500 cs and top gold in the game probably shouldn't lose LP when their team mates are around 1/19 50 cs and 5 levels behind. And yes, this scenario is possible. I literally 1v5'd for 58 minutes until I got caught between two skill shots and killed.

I don't see why you would pose this question, since you obviously understand what I just said, unless your intention is to troll.

I didn't pose that question to you. That was the original response to the original poster. :p

Considering I've gotten 14 LP in my win prior to my most recent win...

And here I thought rock-bottom was 15 LP at least...

Your LP gain/loss is determined by your MMR.

If your MMR is above average than the rest of your division, you gain more per win and lose less per loss.

If your MMR is around even you'll gain/loss similar amounts

If your MMR is lower than your division you will gain less for a win and lose more for a less.

Personal achievement means nothing, all about MMR.

Also you can use NA.op.gg to get a rough estimate of your MMR.
