Neeko disguise flaws

Some friends and I have been playing Neeko and have encountered some of her passive interaction which seem to be a dead give away of her identity to observant players. Were believe if these problems were addressed, they would be more in line with quality of life buffs for Neeko's passive. Part I discusses changes to Neeko's passive interactions we expected to be present in the game on release. If they were implemented I do not think Neeko games would be drastically affected. Part II discusses changes that seem really cool in concept but would probably be too strong, hard to implement, or unhealthy for the game.

Part I First-off, It does not appear Neeko is able to copy an allied Aatrox's out-of-combat walking animation. Neeko seems to always hold the sword out and never sheath it. Given my experience, much of her passive's strength is seen when she walks by wards out of combat. If the enemy team sees that the Aatrox is not sheathing his weapon, they have an additional advantage against Neeko. Neeko already doesn't copy Aatrox's passive-ready stance which holds his sword in front of him parallel to the ground (instead of at his side) which already seems to be a healthy indicator of Aatrox's true identity. Among these factors, losing Aatrox's out-of combat walking animation breaks the player's immersion of truly pretending to be Aatrox.

Second, toggled appearance changes such as putting on Kai'Sa'a mask are not copied by Neeko. When Neeko transforms into Kai'Sa, she will always appear without the void mask. Presumably this could also be the case for Aatrox's wings, Night Hunter Rengar's hood, etc. I would enjoy it if Neeko copied these superficial changes according to what the target was using at the time of the transformation. This change would also keep allies from being restricted to what they wish to toggle in order for Neeko to accurately mimc them.

Teemo seems to be a decent candidate to appear as in the open and in lane. But, there is one huge problem.~~ Everyone tries to kill Teemo.~~ Although I could be wrong, Neeko doesn't seem to copy Teemo's poison dart auto attack animation after he levels up his "e". She only uses Teemo's unempowered auto attack particles. It may not be very noticeable until you are hitting towers for long periods of time. I think it would just be better if Neeko copied his e animation once he levels it. Its not like Teemo can turn it off.

A bug we've discovered has to do with mimicking Gnar. When disguised as Gnar, it seems his normal auto attack range in mini form is drastically decreased. This may be due to the Mini Gnar disguise using Mega Gnar's auto attack range. I hope this bug gets fixed as soon as possible.

This concludes changes to Neeko's passive that seem to me to be fair and more along the lines of QoL bug-fixes. Now here are some thoughts that I would personally be interested in seeing, but I could not say they would be healthy for the game overall.

Part 2 On the topic of Gnar, I would enjoy, as a Neeko player, to disguise myself as Mega Gnar when the allied Gnar is transformed himself. I think it could act as a great bluff. Additionally it would have to keep Neeko players on their toes because if the original mini Gnar runs out of rage, he becomes mini Gnar instantly. If Neeko stays mega Gnar, she would show no rage bar thus indicating she was not the real Gnar. Of course this could definitely lead to times where you planned to appear as mini Gnar going into lane but accidentally become Mega Gnar because your own Gnar just achieved his transformation. This would mean you would have a limited amount of time to become someone else hopefully out of sight and in convincing fashion.

A change I think would be more useful (but much less healthy for the game) would be if Neeko could copy the Warwick blood scent run. Of courses she doesn't actually have the passive so she doesn't get more movement speed, but seeing Warwick walk at you from river when you are obviously lower then 50% hp is pretty obvious. On the other hand, how would Neeko know where to run? She can't actually detect the low health targets. Does she only run as Warwick if he has scent of them AND they are in vision? Does her running animation change as Warwick if she get a ton of movement speed or activates predator? The second reason could still possibly lead to Neeko running at an area without a blood scented target. This could potentially be good by acting as a way to tell if the Wawick is real while additionally testing Neeko's ability to be convincing through her ganking path. Most likely, it would just provide too much misinformation for a healthy game state (in addition to being a pain to implement into the game code.) *I think I just really want to double gank with Neeko and Warwick both running predator xD.

Although I don't expect all if any of these changes to happen, I would really appreciate if Riot could reach out and say why they wouldn't implement these changes or if they would consider some of them in the future. There's no doubt some of them have huge consequences to the state of the game, and I can't imagine trying to add additionally layers of code for such specific interactions.

TLDR: Neeko doesn't copy Aatrox's out of combat walking animation, togglable aesthetic effects (ie. Kai'Sa's void mask), teemo's poison dart particle effects, and the Mini Gnar disguise has greatly reduced auto attack range.

I understand Neeko is a very polarizing champion and hearing the word "buffs" probably isn't what many people would like to hear, but if anyone wants to talk about any other game mechanics that could reveal Neeko to observant players and whether you think it should stay or not, feel free to comment blow.

TBH Neeko’s disguise is only ever gonna work on a cursory glance level anyways. What I mean is, even if you fix all the toggleables, passives, etc. the way her character behaves is still not going to fool anyone under scrutiny.

Since Neeko doesn’t copy stats, I’m gonna question why the ADC is attacking so slow, I’m gonna question why the Yasuo isn’t pressing Q and spamming E every second it’s near a minion wave, I’m gonna question why it’s slower than a mobi boots Thresh, question why Caitlyn is suddenly walking into melee range (her ult)

If I have time to discern certain cosmetics, I have time to discern behaviours. Not to mention if she uses W while disguised, it’s a dead giveaway.

I get what you say, and I was 100% in your camp, but I just played a game as Warwick and was up against an Udyr jungle. Udyr was being extremely aggressive, and at one point I caught him out by scuttle at around 20% hp. I immediately e-flashed-e, but before I could set off my second E I was rooted by what was actually Neeko and killed since she was full HP and mana.

My immediate reaction was "Shit. Well played. Great bait."

If she copies a dismounted Kled the health will be missing Skaarl's but she will still be riding Skaarl

The thing about Neeko is that (depsite how everyone has stupid teams that wont listen) your team needs to help you try and trick the enemy as one player said (Sewer Side) if you're disguised as Yasuo, the real Yasuo should also not be using any abilites in lane and try to at least make it as a hard as possible to see which one is real.

The big flaw with neeko passiv is that, even with bugfix, the passive would be better on a tank champion. As a squeshy mage, there is no real good disguise to trick poeple into trading with you. Disguise as a tank and poeple will avoid going on you, disguise as a carry and they will burst you with full combo at sight. That passiv would be so more interesting on a tank who could disguise as a carry

this would be a badass champion ai what a shame it's tied to neeko now

No ones stopping you from building her full tank and baiting the hell out of the enemy bud.

Also another interesting interaction is while yes she copies attack range, she doesn’t copy it if it goes above her base 550. I don’t know if that was intended but I’ve copied jinx in rocket form and also cait and Ashe and it doesn’t go higher. It also doesn’t copy tristanas passive buff so turning into an adc with a long attack range is a bit of a giveaway as well. Not that any of those are gamebreaking it’s just something odd I noticed

This is intended to keep her from getting free high AA range

i feel like her disguise doesn't really work well in the first place it's just some extra pizzaz i mean sure it's helpful for her one ability that makes her invisible and gives her ms but other than that it's aesthetic value at best with no real use anyway maybe these things you point out are intentional lol

Gnar actually gains AA range from his ult passive, to make up for him being unable to ult as mini. It's a purely passive ult to Mini Gnar. Most likely, Neeko is not gaining the benefits of this.

if neeko wasnt broken as all shit i'd be okay with this.

Yeah the Gnar issue is probably the most disappointing issue with Neeko that there is. I have a friend who plays Gnar a lot and, while it's not technically a bug, it does suck that I can't pretend to be him for more than a few seconds. The reason Neeko is melee as mini Gnar is because Gnar's attack range is actually a part of his passive, not a base stat.

The other thing I've noticed is Neeko can't copy Caitlyn's attack range of 650 which is very disappointing because that would be a cool interaction, when you become Caitlyn you only have 550 range.

I don't know if this was already fixed but I remember in the past like week or so using Neeko and disguising as a Pulsefire Caitlyn. You only get the level 1 version of the skin. As Caitlyn levels up you can tell the difference between disguised Neeko and Caitlyn because the skins will become different. I'm assuming its the same problem with other Pulsefire skins.
