Maokai camp spawn

So I noticed today in URF that AP Maokai can set up 3+ saplings in base and instantly kill you from outside the fountain the second you spawn. Now, maybe this is only possible in URF mode, but I feel like this could potentially be abused in normal games...assuming AP Maokai ever becomes a thing (I've seen it work mid lane). Is this intentional? Should we consider this for regular games? Should a champion be able to spawn camp you without consequence, or should I suck it up because "its just URF?"

What did you expect? Everything does tons of damage. TONS.

Seriously, though, they're not going to nerf Maokai because he's crazy in an April Fools featured game mode. Nor should they.

In a normal game, Maokai is limited to however many he can place in a 35 second window, at that time they start to despawn. With maximum CDR, this comes out to about 4 saplings (5 if you're unlucky).

Explosion damage would be 960(+240% AP) or 1200(+300% AP). Yes, it might kill you, but this assumes that Maokai's whole team couldn't kill 2 Nexus towers and the Nexus in 35 seconds while your team is Aced.

At the end of the day, you're talking about a player behavior problem (spawn camping instead of finishing the game) instead of a mechanics problem (no reason to stack max saplings on the platform if you need to finish the game). If you want to make an argument for there being a change you should word it "Maokai's saplings should be susceptible to Pure Damage".

Edit: messed up my math.
