Detailed Feedback on the current LeBlanc PBE state @AzuBK @Jinxylord / @RiotAugust

Hello there, I would to give some honest feedback and on the Leblanc revert, which in my eyes is a great move by @RiotAzuBK and RiotAugust. I am playing Leblanc since season 3 and since season 4 she has always been my most played champion despite meta shifts and nerfs. However, the PBE version needs some fine tuning before hitting the live servers and I don’t want Leblanc to be unplayable (in the way that I can still play her in High elo and doing well with her) nor permabanned to the point even the lower MMR players who aren’t as experienced as Leblanc mains “abuse” this champ for winning easily.

• Mirror Image: Passive revert much appreciated. One of the big fun aspects of Leblanc. Clone does not proc On hit things (Lichbane revolver) as it used to.

• Sigil of Malice: Completely reverted. That’s cool.

• Distortion: W Damage revert due to sigil bounce remove was necessary for waveclearing, having some form of AOE Damage, but nerfing all other parts of this ability is unjustified. Lowering the dash speed as pre-rework version is totally okay, but adding a delay to snapback AND lowering the time from 4->3 to return to the pad is too much. It was not even considered a problem that Leblanc has 4 seconds to return to her pad. This timer got burned in my mind so badly that I can tell “okay I got like this timeframe left to w back”. When they added the extra second back in season 4 despite the silence remove (which was legit a good decision to remove) Leblanc FELT good to play. This change allowed her to juke better and the 1 second more is so satisfying. I play tested her and its really underwhelming to play it´s so short I wondered so many times why I can’t return cause the timer already expired. Also noticed that you run out of mana so freaking fast since Q and E also got its mana increased compared to Leclunk and after one combo I can’t do anything but farm for 2 mins until my manas restored which is kind of a problem. It was once 120, but was lowered and added the extra second to compensate for the silence remove and to focus on Distortion as her main Damage spell.

This is an example why so many Leblanc mains want to keep the 4 seconds on the Distortion. It creates opportunity to outplay your opponent without making it in any way toxic, because it happens a lot that the enemy chases me and one or two guys camp my distortion pad in case i want to return and simply just kill me. (Btw even Zed has the ability to go back to his R for 6 seconds and his W for 4.5 seconds and i don´t see a problem with it, because if you play it right as a team you will still be able to catch him or burn his summoner 4 ) https://plays.tv/video/5aa1a796bb49c7eb2b/leblancs-ability-to-snapback-4-seconds

• Ethereal Chains: I like this change. It forces you to stay in a dangerous range to your enemies to deal a good amount of damage (kinda like the 1.5 delay but not all power is in that ability). Tether range reduce is also okay. Gives the opponent a better chance to break the chain, which is healthy. • Mimic: Now this ability has a good side but mostly bad changes in my opinion. The RQ backload is a good and healthy change to prevent the infamous QR oneshots from a safe distance, which a lot of people hated (although you had to be extreeeemly fed to do that and the enemy (affected most likely supports and adcs as mid had always abyssal scepter during that time, but due to the fact the adc was too greedy to buy a hexdrinker which nullifies that poke combo and the support being underlvled or had no mr item either) Anyways good change. But why are you touching Leblancs only way to deal a reasonable amount of damage aoe wise. The ratio is now equal to the basic ability and offers only 200 more base dmg at level 16. Theres no reason to ever RW but to close a great distance or 5 ppl are on top of each other in a teamfight which doesn´t happen too often either and if so you can´t kill anyone unlike Syndra whose QEWQ Rotation on 5 people DEMOLISHES the entire team. It should really be considered increased to its pre-rework value (0,9).

Another thing that is really questionable is the high cooldown. Keep in mind that this ability is just an empowered version of a basic ability(!) which deals a bit more damage and has no other empowered effects other than this. It is by no means any big game changing Ultimate like Cassiopeia summoner 4 R, stunning the whole team orOrianna Shockwave knocking all up and securing a safe teamfight win. Your ultimate Distortion dealing LESS damage than your normal basic ability Distortion at lvl 6 and having this high cooldown is absolutely crazy (at level 11 it´s also only 55 Base Damage more for an ultimate). Why would I use W RW on a wave to clear it when I can also wait 12 seconds to cast another W to clear the wave to not have my R on a 110sec cd. Problem is, especially the higher the elo is, waveclearing effectively is a big part of midlane. It gives you control and even with old Prerework LB if you used W RW on a wave you won´t have it up roaming botlane as it was still on a 40sec cd. Until you had it up another wave arrived midlane which you either had to clear at turret or you lose all the exp and gold, because the Orianna Taliyah Syndra Viktor LissandraLux Ryze Xerath Ziggs can waveclear effectively with basic abilities on low cooldown, but LB can´t. I know waveclearing is supposed to be a weakness, but the weakness consists of having to blow your maxed Distortion (+10sec cd) and your ultimate on cooldown and not use it to threaten your enemy. Take a look at Karma . This Champs ultimate is really identical to Leblancs. Its on a 45 / 42 / 39 / 36 sec cooldown. Even heavily reducing when hitting Champs with basic attacks or other abilities. She does not only deal more damage/shielding more with her empowered Spells, she also gains extra effects (RQ is an aoe nuke dmg spell, which deals so much dmg when building AP, W healing you fulllife, E shielding your WHOLE team for 400+75% ap and giving movementspeed buff). She can actually have her Ultimate up every few seconds. Leblanc already got her R cd increased in her rework, because this ability gained significant power. It was able to spawn a global clone (blocking skillshots, scaring enemies when your ally got ganked, holding a wave, etc) it has the ability to cast any version of your abilities and it made you invisible and casting a clone next to you. Removing all of these aspects leaves this ultimate really underwhelming and maybe the worst ultimate in this game with that high cooldown as the Damage on her RW and RE are also being reduced. No midlaner is forced to burn their ultimate to clear a wave at mid fast but as Leblanc if you want to do so you need to burn the R cd to go base/assist lanes.

Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate this work very much. Big thanks to AzuBK and August for this step and trying to make my champ fun again. However, I want to point out that back when Leblanc was always sitting under 50% winrate. The moment she touched 49% she got her Dash speed reduced her E width and her ratios on R lowered. Leblancs kit is not complicated and champs like Leblanc excel at Decision making. Burn R for waveclear into back or have it up and apply pressure? The easy aspect definitely got removed with this revert. QR won´t oneshot or even heavily poke anything from far away. To kill someone, the target either is very close to you (facechecking you) that any Mage or Assassin kills you no matter what, or you need to hit your chain (width is really low, hard to hit especially vs a grouped team). Her strength was her early and mid game. Late game against a grouped team it took so much effort not to get outclassed by the enemy midlaner because they had more to offer (Utility, CC, AOE damage, etc) If changes like the reduce of her only AOE combo get through she will just be forced to maybe kill one target and do nothing for 30 seconds until her R comes up again. If you didn’t kill anything or did meaningless damage due to hitting a tank or all the damage being nullified due to shields/heals, Leblanc was a champion that stood 15 seconds around watching her teammates getting obliterated by the enemy mid. I really think if it comes up to balancing her, you already did remove the toxic part old Leblanc was known for. Taking away the extra second on snapback, adding (keeping) the delay after the Dash despite its speed nerf and making her ult that high cd will send leblanc into the dumbster together with season 7 azir.

Things I really hope to get changed (from PBE LB) o Keep the Snapback 4 seconds o Keep at least the current cooldown or revert it to pre rework (40/32/24) o Increase the RW ratio to at least 0.75, so its actually an empowered Ultimate spell (same for RE?!)

Things that can be changed o Buff the manacosts of W (80/85/90/95/100) o Keep the Dash speed at 1600 or remove the Delay

By the way, people talk about aspects as taking ultimate hat on Leblancs old r cd would be so good, but lets be clear here. The only keystone that Leblanc can go effectively is Electrocute. It is made for Combo Assassins/Mages. Comet and aery are way too weak on her. The 2nd tree is usually the sorcery line. Leblanc has to take transcendence and gathering storm/scorch. There is absolutely no way a midlaner cant get away without gathering storm in this current state and having the R cd decreased by a little (in this case roughly 2 secs: 40%cdr 14,4 to 12,2). Giving up 48AP (Lvl 16 post 30min mark) for cheap 2 seconds on a much less effective combo power is meh. I was talking about decision making and how important it is for a champ like Leblanc. Well it already starts in the champ select.

Thanks for the reasonable feedback.

For real, of all of that the ultimate CD is the most important. Leblanc is one of the champions who needs her ultimate often to even trade in lane.

So here's feedback from a player who actually enjoys the reworked version of LB (142K Leblanc exp mostly after rework).

Mirror image as a passive is very clumsy. More often than not the player does not expect it to pop and that's bad! Nothing that isn't purposely executed by the player when controlling their character isn't good game design.

I propose that instead of automatically using mirror image when dropping below 40% health, the passive makes LB's next ability cast create a clone which mimics the ability visually (similar to her current mimic spells).

There were lots of cool ideas with LB's rework... it would be a real shame if all of them were just removed :/

Thanks for the feedback, this is helpful stuff. Agreed that the ult cooldown is too long on PBE, planning adjustments.

What about bringing back the W snapback to 4 seconds again? Or meet us LeBlanc mains in the middle at 3.5 seconds?? It really messes up juking potential and those of us who've played LeBlanc her release "overestimate" how much longer we have until we can't snap back.

Please don't remove the WQ bounce combo. I just tried her on PBE and I can't play her. Applying a mark on enemies with W and then using Q afterwards to deal bouncing damage is one of the most satisfying things ever. Now her only way to execute a combo is to start with Q followed by her other spells.

Having her wave clear tied to W means her ability rank order is always limited to maxing W when currently on live she can opt into different maxing orders without completely losing waveclear potential due to her passive.

Also out of curiosity, is Riot considering a full VGU on her?

If you want to deal damage with W (most mains wanted it back) then the bounce had to go.

And concerning the ability order, it was a trick on old leblanc to max q first fighting enemies where you cant simply dash in and die instant (cassio, anivia for example) instead you went for the kiting leblanc playstyle which is currently done with the reworked leblanc. Hitting chain kiting and throwing Q R for the damage.

Hupsis1 votes

If the reverted LB maxes Q she can't clear the wave. She needs to max W. This was one of the main reasons why I disliked old LB and still do.

Q bounce was an awesome and clever way to do damage to enemies. Now her burst is very straight forward and... more bursty. I don't see the appeal in it. Partly because she lost a lot of aoe potential through her passive. W+RW doesn't quite hit the mark to compensate that loss.

To me it's more about the feel rather than results. Live LB feels more interactive while reverted LB gives better results as a single target assassin while feeling less interactive.

I'd rather have a middle-ground solution than a full revert.

This is a picky question but, are we gonna get the purple back 0-0. Like mimic abilities are purple colored. IM SORRY IK IM PICKY.

First of all I wanted to say THANK YOU for your work. I haven't had so much fun with LB for so long time. I hope ult cooldown will be lower. Doesn't have to be 40/32/24 like it used to before rework but I hope her rank 3 Mimic will be lower than current 40 on PBE as lategame LB often needs her ult for quick clearing waves, running around the map faster and attempts at killing the carry. As other people said I hope you will bring back purple Mimic abilities aswell and maybe bring back old sfx or atleast create new which sounds more like old ones because current on PBE doesn't really feel good.

Did Riot forget that 3 Sec snapback doesnt work without silence on that champ.

I think this is a really good summary on what the majority of LeBlanc players feel like when they tried her on the PBE. I personally really noticed the mana problem, to combo (Q+W) you need to spend a lot of mana, and since morello got changed and you cant regen that mana, she runs out of mana pretty fast. Good post mate and a 110 seconds CD on her ultimate it's too much, hope AzuBK and August read this and implement the changes we are suggesting to them!

I have to disagree. I've mained LB for years also, back in the days of 3 second silence, DFG and ridiculous ratios. Whilst it was fun blowing people up, it was near impossible to play against. The rework definitely made her less oppressive specifically regarding her engage and regarding counterplay. I really don't believe that the current state of LeBlanc is a problem at all, and the reasons that Riot have proposed for the reversion don't stand up to logical scrutiny.

In addition; the state of LeBlanc after this proposed rework will be significantly weaker than LeBlanc was before the assassin update; which I've outlined briefly here: https://boards.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/c/gameplay-balance/T1n1V4ET-problems-with-leblancs-proposed-changes

The rework made her less oppressive? B-but her winrate is whooping 3-4% higher than it used to be pre-rework?

amazing post. Completely agree in everything.

To me the two most important things to change are:

  • Snapback from 3 to 4 seconds
  • Reduce ultimate CDR

Everything else I can understand it/deal with it, but if you keep her like this she will have a 40% winrate or something like that.

Anyway great work Riot, thank you, reverted LeBlanc is way more fun than reworked one, I prefer her like this, reverted and hyper nerfed than reworked and ''powerful'' with delays.

(Haven't played PBE LeBlanc, what I say is jsut coming from what I've read on other player's thoughts.)

I can understand the increase on the ultimate cooldown as a way to gate when you have your maximum kill pressure, not too dissimilar to like a Zed ultimate. I think that can work as long as a character's basic abilities and ultimate are strong enough so that you can have higher kill pressure when you have your ultimate available but your kill pressure isn't non-existant when it's not. From the sounds of it, it's not quite there yet.

For the wave clear, maybe increased damage to minions on W could be implemented to facilitate this kind of kit, as long as it can be in a spot that allows you to keep up with the midlaners that auto clear waves, but won't be able to auto clear yourself and out roam every midlaner.

I personally would prefer a play style where your strength is more evenly balanced over your ultimate and basic abilities, so the ultimate isn't soaking up all of the character's power budget, but I could live with it nonetheless. For me the most important parts of the character to me are back and I'm excited to play League for the first time in yonks. Huge thank you to the lads who worked on this if you happen to catch this message, for me you guys went above and beyond in terms of understanding the views of the players.

As the LeBlanc player, I wouldn't like to have low damage on mimicked W. This is entirely from the perspective of enjoyable game play as the LeBlanc player, just because it gives you less reason to mimic a certain ability, RW becomes more for gap closing and less for AOE damage. For me the most enjoyable part of the character is how structuring your abilities was fundamental in the kit and how it made for game play that rewards your knowledge of how to play the character and the game (naturally I wasn't a fan of the rework because of the Sigil and Mimic changes). Again this is just from LeBlanc's perspective and I can 100% understand it not fitting in with the revert aims, but defiantly is something I would like to see.

The slower W speed defiantly seems a bit more fair as a way to give the opponent a chance to respond (not like it every felt any peel support had any trouble peeling me xD). As mentioned the slower W in addition to a snap back delay might be a little over kill, seems like it could be played around with before release.

I was wondering if there is any comments on the reasoning behind the change on W's snap back timer, because I never felt like it was a problem with either of the previous versions of LeBlanc and can't see how it would be in this one. I don't like it on paper, but havn't played with it yet, so we'll see I guess.

Did you just compare Syndra's performance in teamfight to Lb's? First of all, performing a QEWQ combo on the entire enemy team is very unlikely (while Lb's WRW is much easier and quicker), and Lb is an assassin, she shouldn't be doing huge aoe damage. And she shouldn't be waveclearing efficiently. I don't understand why many other champions mains want the best of all from their main's kit.

Spellbook1 votes

also i dont understand how ppl cant use W to waveclear. i played lb on pbe and i had no trouble wave clearing with Q + W. you just prep the wave (2 aa melee minions and 1 aa to ranged ones) then just W and all of them are dying. if the fact is true that you are maxing W first of course. but its not so bad that ppl tend to think

Spellbook1 votes

and yes this can be done after you get ludens :)

Daunt2 votes

It's unfair to compare Zed's W to LB's W. Zed has to choose between using it aggressively and using it as a way to escape while LeBlanc can do both. Which is why the 3 second availability on the snap back actually doesn't sound that bad. She shouldn't be so safe is she's deciding to commit to a trade. For example, if you go in with your W and E and expect to proc the root you should be ready to either time it perfectly so you can get the root off and go back or hard commit to the trade. The middle ground could maybe be 3.5 seconds but lets not kid ourselves, her W is the best mobility spell in the game.

Also you can't compare Karma's R to LeBlanc's R. Karma actually has to use the ability she chooses to empower while LB simply copies it, yes it doesn't empower it by a lot but it's still a better ult than what Karma has. But on the CD part i agree, it should definitely be lower if not reverted to her old pre-reworked value. Another thing to take into consideration is that now you're actually able to 1 shot casters with W as soon as you get Luden's (which is now not a bad 1st buy on her) so is the ratio buff on her RW really needed?

Also i believe that the lowered missile speed and the snap back delay are justified since she's getting her burst and damage back onto W. You don't even notice the delay since the speed is lowered.

If anything, i wholeheartedly welcome back old LB as i played her a decent amount before and after the rework. But i'd also prefer if she was a bit weaker than broken on the patch that this gets released. Just give it time to see what should and shouldn't be changed.

My Waifu Vanilla2 votes

Her mana costs are probably so high to force her into the likes of ludens as opposed to gunblade since as it stands QR on rework vastly outdamages a QR (without waiting for the sigil) and QR+Gunblade+Electrocute is a lot of upfront damage that is unavoidable and will almost always kick someone out of a fight. By artificially making the item "unusable" with mana costs they don't have to balance around it as much.

Mossy Lungs1 votes

Wow. This. Yes. You put it into words. Well thought out words. Thank you!

SirSoap1 votes

Her Ult W having a higher ratio than her normal W is actually way more significant to her gameplay than most assume. This is not just about some damage numbers but about how her entire late game will be played. Let me explain why:

Since at the moment on the PBE her W and Ult W have the same ratio I predict that in lategame people will just W on the ground before a fight breaks out and then engage with Ult W followed by a quick QW combo. This was also sometimes done before the changes but you'd sacrafice a lot of dmg [ 205 (+0.3AP) ].

Now the damage difference is only [ 205 (+0AP) ], a negligible value, but in return you get a way more reliable burst. Not sure if this is the best direction since this is neither fun for the LeBlanc player, nor for the opponent. I would love to hear your thoughts on this matter but my suggestion would be to buff the Ult W ratio as you've stated in your post.

A thought I was having on the CD as that seems to be the biggest contentious issue with this revert. I think it is really unfair when you look at the three other champions that have spontaneous empowered Basic Abilities ( Karma Heimerdinger Rengar ) they all have things greatly improved over what LeBlanc is getting. Heimer’s has comparable CD, but GREATLY increased damage and effects. Karma has much more power and a lower CD AND CD reduction, and Rengar’s empower is comparable in Power Boost to LB, but his are tied to his passive, not his Ultimate, and is also on a reduced CD essentially.

So obviously, I think she needs a little extra. Since she’s mostly considered an Assassin, I think something that works on High Risk, High Reward is what would suit her best, so here’s my thought. ———— Cooldown - Still moderately high, like 70/55/40

Added effect - If Mimic is on Cooldown and LeBlanc damages an enemy champion 4 times with her spells, its cooldown is reduced to 1 second. ———— I think this change would give back that incentive for LB players to go in for risky all-ins to get that reset and make her rethink the long-range poke idea. This way, she can also still wave clear late game with her Ult if she absolutely needs to but still feel like she has a way to be relevant if she has to fight someone. E.g. - Needing that reset, she jumps in with W, Q’s for damage (1 tick), throws an E (2 & 3 ticks) if she lands it, and then has to decide to stick around with the tether to get that last tick and get her Ult back.

Karma's RE (the shield for entire team) got butt nerfed. It only shields 30% for everyone except the person who it's cast on. Nice insight tho on lb.

Honestly there's like 2 big things that I like about the current Leblanc:

  1. the Q bounce, but since the W damage is coming back removing is fine with me because she would be broken.
  2. the ult, instead of making it the last spell used you get to pick which spell

I actually don't think keeping it would change that much about her in terms of viability other than her gameplay feeling a lot better and I think it increases her skill ceiling. Reverting it to the old ult basically means you're doing the same combos and not reacting to what's actually happening in game.
