The hardest part of LoL is....

Dealing with the toxic community. As a smite player coming to LoL, i played some games to level 30, went straight into ranked, and didn't have any problems winning (excluding one match, with a rage-quitting support leaving because of his ADC)... So basically, the only time I lost a placement match was when it was 4v5... so for me, the only hard part of LoL is finding teammates that aren't jerks and just quit... Does anyone else feel that between not having to aim autos, having few skill shot abilities, and clicking to aim that the only difficult part of this game is finding a team where one of your players isn't a complete jerk/troll? I think part of what keeps the trolls in this game is the fact that its so easy. If Riot put forth an effort to make the game more of a challenge to the player, thus requiring more focus by the individual, I feel like people would have less time to rage in chat, and ruin the game for others. Seriously, look at the chat logs in your games that get reported... most of the time people are being toxic because they're so busy focusing on their teammates play (because they don't have to focus on their own). I've rarely seen toxic behavior because of anything other than this.... Is it really that hard to see? The game is so easy that the experienced players can focus more on analyzing their teammates play than actually playing the game, and then they get mad when less experienced players mess up (part of learning) and then rage at them, which discourages others from playing the game entirely. Maybe the solution is to make the game a little more challenging to the individual, instead of silly things like getting rid of all chat, doing away with the tribunal, or hiring a team of university trained scientists. I'm sure game devs make better games than guys in lab coats anyway... maybe you should hire some more of those guys.

I wouldn't call League easy, but that's getting into the whole moba vs moba argument and I don't really want to go there.

I don't know what rank you ended up in, but as you go up you will notice pockets of high toxicity and high teamwork. The toxicity is usually centered around areas where advancement means quite a bit, like at the top of each tier, where as teamwork is at the lower end for the people who are still excited about having made it up.

Smite doesn't really have this sort of trend yet (and hopefully never will). In my opinion toxicity comes down to a few factors, but the main one is investment. League has been around for a very long time, and so there are many players who are incredibly invested in it. These people then tend to both stick with League and convince friends to try it out. Once Smite has been around a bit longer we may notice it go down the same road as League, but only time will tell.

Who knows, maybe you're right and the different mechanics simply attract different groups of people, but if that is the case then there is really nothing League can do about it.

Also R.I.P. tank Vulcan and his thumper turret =(

A lot of the problems could be solved with extremely simple steps. Someone D/Cs for more than a couple of minutes? Enable an early surrender. If someone on your team doesn't get past level 3 or so, the players who DID play could receive an elo hit exemption. Riot just simply won't implement things like this. I don't know if its because they don't know how, or they're too focused on making fancy videos to market their world championships, but for a company that talks about reducing toxicity so much, they aren't making an effort to take basic steps towards making their player base happy. How many times have you seen a player being toxic because they're too happy to contain themselves? The fact that the game mechanics are ridiculously easy is just the fire... you add silly things like forcing players to endure a 20 minute 4v5 stomp, then punishing them further for it further by giving them an elo hit... and THEN not doing anything to the people who caused it all (ban them for a couple of days, but WHO CARES U CAN STILL PLAY ON A SMURF) what do they really expect to happen?

There's a difference between a game being easy and "easy to learn but hard to master" - the latter is what LOL is, and even then it's only easy to learn if you have experience with another MOBA.
