Yet Another Drake Review

Taking a Drake or Elder Dragon should be exciting. You should feel good about it. This is how I feel taking the objectives currently.

Mountain Drake - Oh god yes.

Infernal Drake - Ooooh baby!

Ocean Drake - Fine, I guess.

Cloud Drake - Ugh, do we have to?

Elder Dragon - This is a really big objective but at my ELO will my team be smart enough to accomplish something in the next 2 minutes?

I simply ask Riot, since two Drakes feel REALLY good, why not make them all feel that good? As a big fan of professional play as well, it really pains me when Cloud Drakes spawn and the teams just outright ignore them. While part of the goal was that different Drakes should be more heavily contested at different times, right now two of the Drakes can pretty much be ignored at almost all times. Especially when objectives are mostly valuable when a team coordinates to use them properly, this element is often lost in solo queue at lower ELOs.

I simply think you should spend some time re-evaluating the Drakes/Dragons under the test of: (1) how good does it feel for players to take this? and (2) how broad of an MMR range will be able to take advantage of the benefits and appreciate the benefits?

How to change close to make it useful

Buff it to a 20/40/60 increase in move speed when moving toward allied champions within 1000 units (old captain enchant) elder dragon doubles the MS and range of the effect

Bamb, it's strong when working as team, because it helps engage and disengage fights depending on your team comp (got a hecarim? Stronger engage for the team as they get MS as hecarim engages, got a Janna? Stronger disengage and kite)

The extra second (if that depending on lane you are going to) you save with current cloud drake buff is near useless

And think of this, got 3 cloud drakes and sad cause it's not worth getting elder dragon? Well now it is, it could mean a bonus 120MS when following your fastest ally (zilean?) allowing for a lot better late game team roaming

There's a difference between "feeling good" and "actually good". Winrate wise according to Riot while Air Dragon is the weakest it's actually not far behind the others. It's more of an appreciation thing.

imo this is my personal ranking:

Infernal Mountain Cloud Ocean

At least for usefulness in combat. Personally I find Ocean the worst dragon since you rarely will take advantage of its passive because at the point you get the second ocean drake either you are stomping or you are defending and in both cases even a Cloud drake is more helpful.

Well, what can we do? given that MS is somewhat a stat of attrition. people complain that they have to buy boots, simply because their opponent's got them.

If we increase the current numbers, it might be too much, given that the flat bonuses will also affect %MS from items. On the other hand, with the soft MS caps, it might not be that significant late game.

Even if you gave half of the already stated bonuses in combat, it could create problems. In combat in particular, a little MS can go a long way.

The only thing I could think of is either, offering Slow resist as well. (Though that may not help as much in combat) Or offer a different MS mechanic. Perhaps something similar to the momentum mechanic that DMP offers.

All said and done, Even with Air drake behind the rest of the pack, I wouldn't be surprised if the Drake's imbalance was some how an intended feature.
