Essence Reaver recipe consistency
Hello, I'm opening this thread to evoke what I consider being an inconsistency concerning the recipes of Essence Reaver. The components of an item are supposed the reflect its identity. For instance, when you wish to obtain a Thornmail, if you don't possess enough gold to buy it directly, you start getting minor armor items (Cloth Armor, Chain Vest). For some recipes, you can also choose a path of build according to your preferences (Glacial Shroud or Warden's Mail for Frozen Heart being a good example).
- Context: Essence Reaver stands out of the other items because of its 10% cooldown reduction and its mana generation passive property. But, both can't be obtained before the entire item has been bought. I think it's a pity because it has tendency to deter me from buying it. The recipe is tough (B. F. Sword is hard to buy) and the item itself is pricey. If / When I gather its components I would rather get The Bloodthirster that possess a passive property way superior in early game for the same recipe. In my opinion Essence Reaver is an interesting middle game choice, but it doesn't justify the fact that we have to wait for this item's completion to get the two characteristics that are making its identity. The season 5 is about making choices, and strategic diversity. I do believe it's an interesting strategy to optimize farming time and movement with Essence Reaver and Statikk Shiv for instance. Essence Reaver have its place in current season, but I think it has to be adapted to get a better synergy with other items.
- What I propose: When we think about cooldown reduction and mana regeneration, there is one item that stands out, Forbidden Idol. One may think this is a mage specific item but this item is neutral, and suits perfectly Essence Reaver's recipe. Additionally, it's a cheap item and it's important that a fighter or a marksman whose offensive potential highly depends on his spells could make the choice in early game to get mana regeneration without spending 3200 gold, and finish the recipe after having bought items more suitable for early game. Furthermore, with the season 5 changes on mana regeneration, this item would give more control on, and highlight even more this champion category whose statistic is higher than usual (Jinx, Sivir, Kog'Maw, Lucian, Ezreal and others, sort by mana regeneration). Afterwards, I think it would be more appropriate to remove the lifesteal component of this item. The new version or Doran's Blade and the high accessibility of Vampiric Scepter (Blade of the Ruined King, Ravenous Hydra, The Bloodthirster) have encouraged alternatives build start for some champions, like Doran's Blade + Infinite Edge or Vampiric Scepter + Statikk Shyv, which represents very well the actual tendency to get lifesteal separately in order to privilege a more interesting item. I think every player should be able to make the choice to invest in cooldown reduction and mana regeneration without getting lifesteal. Additionally, this change would reduce the amount of this very pricey item despite its utility aspect. Proposed recipe: B. F. Sword + Forbidden Idol + 750 gold Proposed remake:
- Lifesteal component removed
- Total price reduced to 2900 gold
Thank you for reading, I tried to make it as clear as possible.
