Why can you send abilities a direction by clicking the minimap?

I think there should be a way to disable sending abilities a direction by clicking on the minimap, I can't think of a single scenario in which you would want to place the target of an ability by using the minimap. When I use abilities such as nami's ult, and click just slightly too far in the bottom right corner and it goes in the exact opposite way that i want it to go. You should be able to click the map through the minimap.
