Should I just quit support?

So after the 6th loss streak (I'm talking about 20+ games for each here), I actually don't want to play support anymore. It doesn't matter what support I play, I just lose because of someone facechecking a brush or something. It's stupid, even if I go 7/3 (like my last game...) I cannot carry. I just feel like you can't play support below plat. Is that true tho? If so, what role can I learn to carry plebs?

I'm a support main playing @ gold/plat/diamond levels. Every role can carry. I'll give you some tips. Check my normals in draft pick, its where i do the majority of my playing. I also play solo. I don't have a dedicated partner.

1.) The easiest and best way to carry the game as a support is through your ADC. Always remember to empower and protect them at all costs. Remember that. If your looking to 'pseudo carry' with a support pick, then lean into the mage supports. Annie Karma Lulu Morgana Ziggs Zilean Zyra These are all viable up to plat - but always remember, your best off carrying your partner.

2.) If your ADC is not good, and you do not believe he is capable of carrying or even PERFORMING, then you have a few options. The first involves taking over the lane and stealing CS. This won't be popular, and he will get offended, but if you are THAT confident that you can carry better than him, then I say do it. I have done this many times, and It has scored me the win. Just know its not popular. The second, and probably better strategy is to FIND someone who can carry on your team, and support THEM. Look at who is doing the best on your team, and as the game changes into teamfights.. switch your focus and support THEM.

EDIT Followup: One of leagues best secrets is that everyone can carry. Anyone who thinks this task is reserved for the ADC is dead-wrong. The meta has shifted so much over time, the tools for all roles to carry are there. Don't get me wrong, the ADC is your best option for late game team damage, but thats not the only way to win, nor the only way to carry. _Oh, and on the subject of 'carrying' with a support pick, Crowd Control is the money maker for that. It stops the enemy from blowing your team out, and allows your damage to capitalize. Zyra and Morgana became popular and 'meta' because of CC. _

3.) Pick a single support champion that you love and MASTER them. Learn what works, what doesn't. Every champion in the game can take you to plat if your good, period. It's been far more effective for me to master a given champion, rather than play a multitude of counters. You learn how to play around counters and it makes you a better player in turn. If you want advice on who's good to play? Stick with someone who's in meta, powerful, and not banned often. Karma is an excellent choice in my opinion. She is terrifying.

4.) Learn to die less. 5 or less deaths a game should be your goal every single game. Look at my matches. Look at my deaths per game. They are SIGNIFICANTLY lower than average because of this mindset. I think all players should learn this rule, and I think it separates Platinum/Diamond from the rest.

5.) Learning how to lane in support is absolutely critical to your success. Knowing how to poke SAFELY is paramount. This is just something you learn over time. It's easier with a SINGLE champion, rather than many.

Hope it helps, boss.

Thank you very much for this detailed answer ;_; I also think I should be playing mage supports in my elo, it's just easier (even tho I just love enchanters v-v) I'm gonna safe up some IP on this account, I already know how to play Karma, she's tons of fun but I'm struggling with the build. What do you think i should go for in terms of items? And would you rather recommend Karma or Sona? they both seem to do a similar job.

Sona isn't as pub-stompy as I had heard in low ELOs. She isn't bad and is very safe, but she isn't getting fed unless you are a god.

Based on your previous post just go Kayle. Start off healing, if your team is good keep healing. If not build that AS and splitpush/duel ayone 1v1 with immortality shield.

Sona and Karma are worlds apart in my opinion. I actually think over the last few months Sona has really, really fallen out of meta, and for good reason, she's just too squishy and vulnerable to be played bottom. Rakan is one reason why. One bad initiate and its completely over for Sona. The ONLY thing Sona has going for her right now is some of the best Sustain in the game. Sure, the burst is there - but that's pretty common on supports these days. If your going Sona, playing with lategame scaling in mind is important, in my opinion. I also really, really don't think she's capable of 'carrying' a game in an honest sense... her CC is just not good enough. She can't really stop hard burst unless she has her ult, and that's a problem in today's games. I wouldn't pick her in the current meta. Pro's agree too - you just don't see Sona in the higher tiers of play right now.

Conversely, Karma brings so many more tools to the table, you can engage, you can shield, you can burst, and you can poke. I feel like her kit is very strong and yet well rounded. Her AP Scalings are insane, and she has some of the best burst among support bottoms, its like some big secret, Karma has all these great tools, but her damage is absolutely terrifying. I have died so many times to a GOOD Karma because i completely underestimate how much damage she brings. Her shield gives her enough agency to save someone in burst scenarios, doubly so if you build for it. You can find tons of youtube videos of Karma and how to build/play her. The only issue here, is karma is pretty popular and arguably on Riots radar for balance tweaks, she might see a nerf or two down the road.

As for Support items... well..... I told myself i wouldn't do this but here you go:

item 3301 This is underwhelming at best. I'd advise you to stay away until it gets buffed. item 3303 Bread and butter support item. - I buy this item every game and turn it into the warding variant. The recent patch made it even more busted. I expect it might be nerfed. I also expect to start seeing it mid-lane, somehow. (The quest is very hard to do if your mid.) item 3302 It's alright. If your playing a meat shield and want to be durable, this is your go-to. item 2049 Required. Get it early. item 3364 I get this every game, generally - it's too important for vision control. Doubly so when you don't trust your team.

Late Game:

item 3102 Banshees is about to hit the meta in a big way, its one of the best items for AP anything since the patch - Supports should eat this thing up. Makes it a lot harder to be engaged on. item 3050 If your ADC is carrying the game, this is a pretty good buy - its underrated. item 3065 Still probably one of the best Anti-mage items in the game, I buy these when I notice an AP carry is getting fed on the enemy team. item 3107 Most supports will tell you this is required, but I humbly disagree - it's popular, its insanely good, but I think a bit overrated. If your NOT good with actives, I'd caution you, because that's easily the biggest draw here. item 3165 Still the single best AP item in the game right now. Though I think new Banshees is going to replace this. item 3222 Underrated. One of the better items in the game, but the active component is easily the most important feature here. Only get this if you know you can nail the active. item 3190 Very popular. Very good. Hard not to recommend this, though I don't really buy it when I play. item 3109 Much like Zeke's, this is a great investment if your ADC is carrying you, otherwise, discard. I need to be 'Wowd' by an ADC before ill consider purchasing this. It DOES help the ADC survive, but never as much as you THINK it would. item 3742 This is one of the best items in the game. It's viable on almost every champion, except maybe ADC? I buy this to survive fed damage people as support, it has NEVER failed me. This thing is nuts. This is your go-to defensive option when they have a carry or all-melee team that gets fed. Use and abusive until they nerf it, because its coming.

That's about all I can think of on the support front for now.

You're the best, thank you so much !! I'll save up some IP on my current account and let you know how I do on Karma. The detailed Item information is very helpful too, I didn't think you'd recommend Dead mans, even tho it makes perfect sense. Do you think adaptive helmet is good against mages too? (no doubt spirit visage is better on Karma because of healing but against a Cassiopeia or something it seems good) Again, thank you very much for taking your time, you helped me a lot!

item 3194

I have very little experience so far with the item, on paper it seems good, but no one has really found a great application for it yet. I don't think I'd purchase it over Spirit Visage. SV gives more health, more resists, and more regen, and to be honest.. I think it has the better passive as well. Adaptive just doesn't have the raw stats to compete.

There aren't that many scenarios when Adaptive passive comes into play, and even when it does, its ONLY 15%... that's not exactly a game changer in my opinion.

item 3001 is another new option, but I have a hard time recommending that as well. The Aura is the only draw, and the stats are kinda meh to me. At the end of the day, health is just too important.

It's hard to carry games as a support. It all depends on your adc. If you want to carry games then play mid or jg.

Short Answer: Yes.

Long Answer: No, because then you'll get stuck with some autofilled support when you go any other role and they'll suck more ass than you did as support.

Support is possible.

I always feel useless when my team doesnt do shit. You can't take towers, kill single enemies or do anything except ward and stay in the backline like a retard. jesus I don't know why I played so much support.

I have a friend who's in the same boat pretty much except I keep trying to encourage him to try something along the lines of Velkoz Zyra Malzahar if he wants to distrust his adcarry and have the ability to take the lane completely into his hands while the adcarry just becomes a farmbot that follows up on your combos. 'till he's stronger later.

but if you want to play supports like Janna then you need to learn to keep people on an idiot leash more or less.

I like this idea, if you like the idea and are good with the support role then look at different kinds of supports.

Champions like Soraka and Rakan are reliant on there team to do the fighting and there job is to buy time(either with healing or debuffing enemies) for their allies.

Champions like Zyra and Malzahar usually can handle themselves better while bringing utility to there team. There not as good as the previous champs I mentioned in helping but are less reliant on there team's ability to play.

Along with this, my advice is to explore other roles while staying in support. In my opinion everyone should either be very good in two roles or comfortable in three roles so they can stay flexible and experience new things in the game.
