Mordekaiser AP Discussion

Okay, so most people will comment that Morde is either OP or UP, but today I wish to share abit of MY thoughts and strategies when using him.

So you're picking your champion and you decided to use Mordekaiser.

Now there's two ways to go about this:

Jungle Morde(It works I use it all the time)

Lane Morde(Top or Mid preferably, wrecks the opponent hard)

We start with the Lane Morde.

Okay we need something to chase or get away with, and I personally use ghost, but some prefer flash. Now most people take ignite to finish off their opponents, and for a long time I did too. However this strategy is only useful against squishy champions and noobs dumb enough to get hit by your Q. I take cleanse. Yes, very unused but it's potential with Morde is high. Okay so if you don't know this already Morde is tanky because of his passive, the iron man(Go read it up if you haven't already. Now without being able to spam abilities to get that shield going, you're gonna take alot of damage. So stuns will affect a Mordekaiser badly. REALLY badly. With cleanse you can get out of that stun and either run away or counterattack an unsuspecting enemy(They think they gotcha with that stun). This also helps with chasing, as you can ignore stuns for a short time and then smash em in the face with that Q.

Now for masteries, I always take Bond of stone, jungling or laning, it's the best pick for Morde. (EDIT: I have recently found the use of DFT for Morde(It really ups his Ult) so if you're gonna be charging in like me and not taking bruiser items I suggest you take DFT instead. Still, go down resolve for runic armour)

Okay so you've spawned and you think of what to buy. If I were you I'd get a Doran's shield to quickly replenish the amount of health I would consume to cast spells as well as absorb some damage. Get a health potion and you should be grand.

Always start with E and max E first. No this is not a joke. Listen. Most say "E is useless", and I thought so too until recently. But maxxing Q is pointless unless you can actually HIT enemy champions with it, and let's face it, early game with low mobility, you won't get a good melee hit. And as for maxxing W it doesn't do much apart from increase the damage from when the two circles meet and the speed boost(No it does not increase the healing). But why max E you wonder, well here's the reason. Remember how Morde has the worst poke and range in the game? Well that's wrong. Your E is your only range(except your R) and hitting multiple minions AND a champion will give you massive amounts of shield, not to mention that your E loads fast. You can poke at enemies and watch as they try to poke you in vain(Your shield absorbs all the damage if you can keep it going). They will end up turret camping, and you will wait sadly until the laning phase ends because they're too scared to come out. You can max Q second and W last. Use your Q to hit champions and use your W to heal some HP(Remember, don't immediately reactivate it, instead use the two circles to weaken minions and generate some shield, then stand in a crowd of minions before reactivating to heal.

Always build a Rylai's first, because marking someone with your R will slow them for as long as your R is active, giving you a few seconds to bash em with your Q(Enough time really, 3 hits will KO them unless they're tanky).

Next, get a Nashor's to quickly dispatch champions with your Q.

Then get a Void Staff to ignore their magic resistance and deal more dmg with your Q.

After you're starting to get into that team fight going on near the dragon and the tanks seem to be too scared to jump in and absorb damage, buy a Spirit Visage in order to initiate teamfights and absorb dmg. (EDIT: Don't actually, bruiser items aren't worth it compared to some AP items like Luden's Echo because your best friend and passive the iron man is always there to tank out dmg. The more AP, the more dmg, the more dmg the more shield :P)

If you haven't won yet by now, buy a Lich Bane to further boost the power of your Q and hopefully get a one shot on someone because that's cool.

Keep an eye on the dragon, and get it as soon as you managed to get your first ghost or you're leading. You can solo if your first ghost is a tank or an adc, but be careful not to get it stolen. After getting that dragon, go ahead and destroy a lane tower or some champions in a team fight.

Now for the jungler Morde there isn't much difference apart from getting smite of course.

You should get red first and start with W, then max Q. Sadly E is not as useful in the jungle. Use your Q to beat up the bigger monsters, and don't forget to eat those potions.

Build into a Chilling smite for ganking and chasing(Gives Morde some mobility) and if you've been paying attention to what I wrote up till now you'd be sensible enough to enchant it with Runic Echoes. The rest of the items are the same as lane.

Always ward dragon, and get it asap.

Here's how to use your dragon:

First dragon: wreck a lane

Second dragon: Rift Herald

Third Dragon: wreck a lane or teamfight

Fourth dragon: If you're leading, go for Baron.

Remember to always let your dragon take the turret fire or monster hits.

There you go! I hope you found this useful.

I love morde and I main him all the time. He is OP when people don't know how to deal with him and UP when you're a noob and don't know how to use champions. But he's fairly balanced and fun to play.

it really depends. Sometimes I max E first, (most of the time) , Sometimes W, rarely Q (just if the guy really wants long trades lol). It depends how you play with your team. With the way I play him item 3151 item 3116 item 3111 item 3065 (the two last slot may contain a lot of items, armor, hextech etc.....) i'm often in the middle of the teamfight, assisting the tank and breaking their ranks. So I don't play him full ap, more like bruiser AP because since I'm kited like hell (actually, i'm trying summoner 6 summoner 1 against full cc teams,it's working well) . Sometimes I add a void staff in my build, just to wreck their tank. even if we don't have the enemy adc or apc, we can win teamfights with someone who gives me a lot of hp and who will tank for me :p I like this build because it makes me less reliant of the Q spell and I don't need the nashor tooth to put them all in their faces :p

Imo both DFT and Undying are better keystones for him.

Got to try Ghost+Cleanse though, it seems really good.
