PSA: What will actually happen to Assassins (and all incoming "Class reowrks")

Stars Shaper··5 votes·805 views

The matter is simple, each hero touched by the class rework will recieve changes that will make clearer both their window of power and weakness.

There is not going to be any massive buff or nerf, just a differentiation of "roles" inside a class that will affect characters somewhere in a positive way and somewhere in a negative way.

No change is going to be perfect firsthand. Feedback is welcome, shouting about doomsday isn't.

I really don't see Assassins getting "gut", they will have 2 item upgrades that will simply make them stomp any mage.

Being an Aurelion Sol main, I am probably going to not being able to play for the whole preseason because anything that can "jump in" removes him from the game, so it's ppl like me that should be sad about the next months being overpopulated by such characters expecially when after them it's the turn of "divers".

thank you for saying this.

aurelion sol can still do pretty well vs assassins since he has better waveclear than them and he builds pretty tanky w/ item 3027 item 3030 item 3116

Doesn't really matter when an assa jumps on you. By the time you collected these they have item 3147, the new item (or item 3156) and item 3142.

Edit: And I don't think building 2 item 3010 items it's worth, maybe will be but can't see it working right now.

I know what will happen. Summoner Rift 5v5 will be renamed "Zedmode" for another 5 months straight. Pretending like

There is not going to be any massive buff

when Edge of Night is being introduced is silly. New Locket might become the bane of assassins, with it's silly shield values, but I don't expect it to go through.

It's one of the things I'm really scared, coupled with ward spotting Drakkar Blade.

When I was talking about "massive buffs" I was talking about champions' kits rather than itemization. I really hope that the new item is going to be tuned so that it is not a death sentence to any mage around.

How does it matter where the buffs come from? Last time we got Zedmode it was mostly Youmuu's fault.

The difference lies in tunability.

I've started playing in Zed era and at the time I was a Xerath main, I learned to play him the hard way ^^

I know firsthand the feedback isn't something Riot cares about. Not when it comes to game balance at the very least.

no offense but I dislike afk sol almost as much as assassins if I get a bad enough team that just stands in fights.

Ahem, Akali. If you're an Akali main then you can see how not "minor" these changes are for her. There is literally nothing good coming from the changes for Akali. Straight up, hard nerf, which will make her borderline not viable. Riot has to revert her W or R. She has to either be sticky or straight up burst you, and since Riot is wanting counter play then Akali needs to be sticky. The current PBE changes removes both, leaving her to be just garbage.

There's my feedback. Revert 2/3 changes (passive, R, W), pick two. E changes mean jack crap except for wave clear so you can revert that too but it doesn't count towards your 2/3.

Honestly though, it doesn't make sense for Riot to be ANY changes to Akali. She has a 48.05% win rate with a 1.59% play rate. That alone shows she is under powered. And besides she has already been mentioned for a completely VGU. So why force Akali mains to learn her minor changes (while Riot plays deny we are wrong while slowly buffing her due to crappy win rates she will have for an entire season) when we will have to learn her AGAIN for her VGU?

A short version of what changed from what I understood is:

  • Passive now is split in 2 attacks, heal scaling with AD and damage with AP
  • W now is a new dash that leaves the invisibility area on cast location (invisibility can't be pink warded anymore) has longer CD
  • E has longer CD and deals more damage + more scaling
  • Rlonger CD more damage/scaling

If I missed something feel free to complete my list.

Anyway, Akali isn't being changed because she was OP but because her design resulted problematic expecially with the rise of Tanks Assassins. From the changes I listed I can't see major problems (if not for not being able to place shroud in the direction you want) but again... I am not really aware of Akali gameplay so I'm open to discussion.

That's the issue. People who are unaware of Akali game play are commenting that the changes are fair and balanced.

The new passive directly conflicts with her playstyle. The health comes on first basic attack and damage on second basic attack. Akalis main source of damage is from Q proc which is her first basic attack. Not to mention the heal is wasted since you usually dive someone with full health. The passive was meant to help Akalis extremely poor pre-6 laning phase but it hurts her burst overall. Reducing sustain due to CD now too.

The W change is a complete nerf. The dash in the shroud is completely useless since Akali already gains movement speed in shroud plus her starting item 99% of the time is boots so dodging skills shots within the shroud was never an issue for Akali mains. The ability to cast shroud on your mouse and not your character is EXTREMELY important. That is the hugest nerf on her W. When laning pre-6 as Akali you cast shroud AHEAD of you engulfing the melee and caster minions. This allows you to be able to cs somewhat safely due to you being melee and most mid laners being ranged. Also, your shroud gives vision so being able to cast it on bushes helps you from face checking. The shroud is also used for juking since you can cast it on corners and run around the walls within the shroud completely juking your enemy. Also, the shroud can already be used to jump over walls via vision granted and her R. And the shroud also provides a slow on your enemies which is nice if you're chasing one down or trying to slow them from catching you or your teammates. The W also used as a threat to enemies since they wouldn't know if she was actually in it too. All of the above cannot happen or happen VERY poorly if the shroud is only casted directly on top of you now.

The E is a damage buff but a CD nerf. The E is really just used for wave clear and icing on the cake damage. It was never a good source of damage for Akali, her Q and ult were.

HER ultimate wasn't buffed at all. I think you read that wrong. The base damage AND the ratios were both gutted. Not to mention the CD is a static 2 seconds at all ranks, which is the BIGGEST problem. Akali is melee, she has to either be sticky or burst you down. They gutted her damage AND reduced her stickiness. Leaving her, a glass cannon with now no sustain due to her passive being gutted, not being able to deal damage due to major damage nerfs, and not being able to be sticky due to her ultimate nerfs, a sitting duck.

These changes were nothing but absolute gutting of Akali.

my prediction is that:

start of season will it be league of a-holes jumping out of no where insta killing you because there are no counter to stealth (Rengar ,Shaco ,ect).

then riot will see they fucked up pretty much the whole assassin update because they haven`t addressed the problems that made most of these champions impossible to balance and put them up for rework in the first place (only Katarina and Talon being the exceptions).

the champions will then be left in a state where they aren`t makeing too much truble until riot can come back to them later...

we have seen this pattern soo many time in the past, where riot updates a champion several of times, changeing everything but the issue at hand, until later when they give up on balancing around it ( MissFortune , Cassiopeia , Mordekaiser , Evelynn to take a few ) .

now i could be wrong and maybe all these champions are perfect on release or just need some simple number changes to be in a good and healthy spot...but i just dont think thats gonna be the case, simply because i dont see the change in their kits that makes them anymore capable of being balanced than pre-rework. (again, not including Katarina and Talon ).
