What's happening with the fps..?

Fumihiko Maki··39 votes·9,830 views

I used to get 200-300 fps all games long, eventually riot did something that brought my fps down to 120ish and somehow dipping below 100.

Even upgrading my gpu wasn't enough to get decent fps.

Cpu is at 30%, gpu is barely used, all settings are on very low, seriously riot ; what's happening...?

Did a quick check with people ingames and it seems im not the only one that has gotten a massive fps drop since some times ago...

i5-4460, 1060 6 gb.

Same went from 90ish fps, to 40-60fps.

League's optimisation is in the shitter. It has been ever since preseason hit. I've seen people who are playing league on a Core i9 with a Titan X get massive frame rate drops.

I think you're joking, but I'm not too sure. I used to play on a potato. Most mobas: Battlerite, HoTS, Dota, etc. my computer couldn't even handle. League of Legends, which is a game that imo has better graphics than all of those, I got 30 fps on. It was an all in one intel computer, so it wasn't even meant for any type of gaming. League is pretty optimized. Rn I have a decent graphics card and I'm getting 100-200 and I have it capped at 60 and it never drops or stutters.

All settings on max

It's only optimized for toaster. Once you try to reach high end fps monitor, you just won't hit it. League has even better fps on older graphic card (I made the upgrade and got lower fps, on league only)

Started at 170-ish in season 5 when i started playing, was 200 in season 6, was 100 in s7 until a patch during mid-s7, went to 70, is now 40-50 and sometimes dips to 20-30 for a minute or so.

Using a non-gaming laptop on minimal settings, ran 60-70 fps smoothly. Now I'm permanent 25-40fps with frequent drops to 0 (frozen screen). No server lag at all, just trash FPS.

same here... got around 200 a month ago. now get 50-100... i have an i7 and a gtx 1060 3gb. when i lower settings it's the same thing

Outdated coding paired with incompetence makes for miracles. Used to be 200+ fps, now I'm at sub 100 the moment something happens on-screen.

Sounds about right

Topping around 200 in the first minute of the game, before any action begins.

Then it drops to 90 - 140 (at max for a few seconds, it's more like 90 - 120).

This is on a Ryzen 1800X and a Vega 64 LC, and is in no way acceptable, can't even make full use of a 144hz monitor in an e-sport title, let alone the 240hz monitor that I own myself.

Also, the GPU graph looks like this, only in League: https://image.prntscr.com/image/RKuWuw6lQB6wSkqcC4R4jg.png

I'm running a ryzen 5 1600 no OC and a 1060 3gb and have the same fps as you. Something is really wrong.

Rìveń4 votes

Yup, I upgraded from a Phenom II X6 1055T to my 1800X, OC'd it to 4.1Ghz, that made a bit of a difference, mostly in terms of stabilizing my framerate, since the Phenom is indeed an... old cpu, you could say, not the greatest single-threaded performance on that thing.

The GPU upgrade, from a damn HD 6950, back from 2010, on it's last legs, all the way to an OC'd Vega 64 Liquid Edition. Not a single difference in FPS nor general stability.

I've also played the game on a PC with an i7 7700 (non K) and a GTX 1080, pretty much the same framerate, struggling to reach 140, usually in the 100 range.

Something is very, very off.

Not to mention that, I've spoken to a few who achieve much higher framerates. It seems to come down to luck, or something like that. Some random guy in my game on an RX 480, I think it was, and presumably on a mid - high tier CPU from the same generation, never asked him so can't be sure, was somehow getting a stable 300+ FPS all the time.

Also, I should add, changing in game settings doesn't do jack shit to help you. Literally going from everything at max settings to lowest of lowest, get ready for it!

Resulted in a lower framerate for me and my friends when we tried it recently.

WHAT?

WHAT?

This happens to me as well setting things from max to low lowered my fps to 70.

I mean, if you can tell the difference between 200 and 100 fps with the naked eye, I applaud you.

I certainly hope this doesn't effect your performance in game...

The max the human eye can see is 125 I think, but you can definitely tell a difference.

It's 30 they say. But i think it's 60 since you can tell the difference between 30 and 60. But no way 125.

Refresh rate and frame rate are not the same thing

Ahri Inari2 votes

Eyes see every image you throw. The job is done by the brain and it doesn't work as "frame per secondes".

CudyDarkyz1 votes

the human eye sees around 1000 frames a second however there a point where it moves so fast that it becomes a blurry, the Cut off point being around 300fps.

The problem is this bug also screws up the fps lock. If I want to lock FPS at 60 the performance is awful even if I have 300 normally. It will for some reason constantly jump below 60 fps making the game stuttering. The only way is to lock it up to 120 then I get from 117 to 100 fps without stuttering. It started to happen at the last s7 patches. It also might have to do something with broken full screen mode. Normally full screen shouldn't let you see volume bar when you use keyboard to increase system volume. But since when fps problem appeared it does. So it seems like borderless full screen but it's actually not. Reinstalling the game doesn't fix anything. Riot fked up big time.

Doesn't matter if our eye can tell the difference. Having lower fps impacts your inputs.

That's not the point. We're talking about a dip of 100+ fps. If you were running normally at 70 fps, and all of a sudden you had a drop of 50 fps, it's going to fuck you over HARD. It's about the drop in performance, not the visual aspect

Harrier2 votes

that 100 fps also means frequent stutters and things like that. basically a stable, high fps is not much to ask for if you paid 600$ for gpu [slayer-jinx-wink]

Daxanater2 votes

not sure either, i had to lower the video reso to improve a bit.

Altiverse2 votes

Same. ~350-400 a year ago, now I peak at ~130. Plus occasional screen freezing since like the last two patches.

thank god! thought i was the only one

I was just gonna make a post about this, until i saw this one. I have been having the same issue, its rather annoying. makes the game far too laggy.

iRRVi2 votes

The weird thing is ive always got 180-200 fps with 30-40ms ping I still do...but it will stutter and stuff even though my framerate remains great

Hextech OwI1 votes

Bruh I play at 30 fps at minimum settings who do you do

OHminus1 votes

Strange, I play on an i3 and my fps has actually improved from around 40-50 to around 60-90 with occasional drops to 40-50 again.

AAAAH so Im NOT the only person getting this.

me2, from medium-high in 8.5 to very low in 8.6 to maintain same fps.

Montiply1 votes

It seems to me that some of the lag in your games are from players from different parts of the world playing from other regions, ie (smurfs) i say this because of timing when attacking some players , its all ways off. champs the leap or dash sometimes miss because of fps drops.

Im having random freezes with a gtx 1050 recently. I never had freezes for years already even without a graphic card b4. I used to have around 320 fps once I had my graphic card back in dec 2017, but now is only 190-220 fps with occasional dips to 150fps. It started happening the last few patches or so. I thought it was only me. I think they may have attached some bitcoin mining in the league software in the background.

Seems like riot doesn't even care about this. Every topic like this is just forgotten by them. Not a single post or anything.

lol yall be cryn i have a intel from 2006 and get 120 fps
