Tired of people trying new champs in ranked

There should be a requirement for ranked games where you can only play champions you have a certain mastery score in. Like mastery 3 or 4. It's not that hard to get there, and by the time you do you'll know what you're doing. What do you guys think?

I think adding a mastery requirement is a horrible idea and ultimately pointless.

For starters, mastery points don't reflect player skill. You can have 3,000,000+ mastery points on your main and still not know what you're doing. In fact IIRC one of the highest mastery point Heimerdinger players in only Iron/Bronze.

Because mastery points don't adequately reflect player skill, all this does is add a very unnecessary time requirement. Let's just say for argument's sake that it takes 25 games to reach mastery 4 on a champion, which is already unlikely because that's assuming you get 800-1,000+ points per game and people are bound to lose a few times.

Anyways, that's 25 games for one champion. If someone plays 7 games of League per day, that's 4 days of League to be able to play that champion in ranked. Then they get banned, so now you have to dodge or get another champion to mastery 4. Another 4 days. Then the enemy team first picks that champion. Another 4 days.

It's just too much of a time investment for a free game, it turns new players off to the ranked ladder, discourages variety, and would just make the game a lot more tedious.

Why so many "another 4 days"? It's not like you lose mastery points. I got to m4 with some champs within 20 games. Yeah, there are some people who can still not know what they're doing, but it significantly raises the chance they do. Besides, I was thinking m3 for it because then you wouldn't have to wait that long to play them in ranked. And it won't deter new players off the ladder, it'll just mean they use the champs they're familiar with until they become familiar with the new one.

The only "new champ" requirement should be 1 or 2 months after the newly released champ's release before it can be played in ranked.

My only issue with that is there are some players who will grind for as long as they need to in order to get familiar with new champs, and so that would also be punishing them in a way. If they're willing to grind and put in the work to get familiar, they should get to play them sooner. That's my opinion, anyway.

Easy solution is to remove the 'block' at somewhere between 50-100 games.

Mastery idea wouldn't fly because not everyone wants to get level 3/4/5 mastery on 20+ champions in order to be allowed to play ranked, especially if they're a one-trick.
