Lets get something straight here

Got harassed to all get out because i said Annie Annie wasn't a support, which she isn't. Before you say it, no she cannot be used as a support either. a Support is someone who_ enhances their allies_, Annie cannot do that. She is a mage. Does that mean she can't be used in bot lane? No, but she IS NOT A SUPPORT. She is a mage, she cannot heal, she cannot buff, that is what a support is. By extension, no Leona Leona is not a support either, she is a tank (yes, yes, I know her secondary role does say support, but really she isn't.) She can be used bot lane and win game, just like Annie, but that DOES NOT MAKE HER A SUPPORT. No heal, no buff, not support. There is a distinction of that for a reason, stop referring to mage bots as supports, they are not supports. They are mages. They are a kill lane. They don't buff their allies, they set up kills.

THIS is a support: Sona This is not: Velkoz ALSO a support: Braum Not a support: Zyra

PLEASE, stop saying a mage that you take bot is a support. They're aren't. Sure, refer to you role as support in the lobby for ease of understanding loctions and directives, but stop arguing that they are support. They aren't. They're a mage. ** (JUST A REMINDER TO SUPPORT YOUR OPINION, NOT JUST SPEW IT OUT. THAT'S SPAMMING, I WANT DISCUSSION.)**

Supports have a broader definition than the one you've given them. Supports are there to enable your team - be it with heals, with buffs, with plenty of CC, with shields, or with poke/harass.

Supports these days are defined just as much by their CC as they are by their heals and buffs.

My point is that there's a difference between being a support champ and a support role. You described the ROLE not the mechanic of being a support champ. Just about ANY CHAMP can support, and your definition (no pun intended) supports that. To be _A _support entitles you need to have something in your kit that ENHANCES an ally, whether that be a buff, a shield (which I would count as a buff but apparently isn't a common thing to consider as such?) or healing. Being THE support means you are setting up or protecting your allies with your kit by any means (CC, survivability, intimidation through damage output, etc) There is a difference between being THE support (role) and being A support (kit).

That still doesn't make any sense. You'll say that Gangplank's E makes him a support, but Annie's stun passive doesn't? That Galio's E makes him a support, but Zyra's snare on her E and knock-up on her Q and R don't? Just because a champion has decent AP/AD ratios on their kit doesn't mean they can't be a support.

support ROLE is not the same as a support KIT. support ROLE is what you describe. you totally ignore the support KIT. A person going into support ROLE does not have to have a support move in thier KIT. Entering support ROLE does not make the character a support kit wise. YES, cc wins games. NO CC is not support. CC = suppression of the enemy, not support of the team. I have included a definition of support to help you wrap your head around this.

  1. to bear or hold up (a load, mass, structure, part, etc.); serve as a foundation for.
  2. to sustain or withstand (weight, pressure, strain, etc.) without giving way; serve as a prop for.
  3. to undergo or endure, especially with patience or submission; tolerate.
  4. to sustain (a person, the mind, spirits, courage, etc.) under trial or affliction: They supported him throughout his ordeal.
  5. to maintain (a person, family, establishment, institution, etc.) by supplying with things necessary to existence; provide for: to support a family.
  6. to uphold (a person, cause, policy, etc.) by aid, countenance, one's vote, etc.; back; second.
  7. to maintain or advocate (a theory, principle, etc.).

they recurring theme is SUSTAIN, MAINTAIN, UPHOLD: buffs uphold, shields maintain, heals sustain. CC does not. There is a distinction between the ROLE of support and having a support kit. THAT is the distinction I am trying to make. NOT that they CANNOT FULFILL the support ROLE but they are NOT a support champion, they are a SUPPRESSING champion.

You have an incredibly single-minded, black-and-white idea of what a support is supposed to be. I'm not sure where you got that convoluted line of thinking, but but it's hilarious how deluded you are.

You're literally arguing semantics. That's it.

Buffs, shields, and heals are not the only things that sustain, maintain, or uphold. You're literally twisting the definition you found (which, by the way, has less to do with your point than you think) to support your argument.

CC absolutely maintains and upholds another champion. Anything you can do to keep the enemy from hurting your team counts as maintaining and upholding another champion.

Then why are certain champs with the viable CC not considered supports? When you can give the definitions of what CC does and doesn't make a support and why the same CC on different champs does or doesn't make them a support then I will concede. No one yet has been able to define this, making the argument totally invalid.

Also, I'm not playing semantics, I'm distinguishing between a support Champ and what the support role of the game is. Annie is not a support champion. Any champion can be use in the support role.

Tell that to my ADC getting double kills 'cause of Tibbers stun.

Da peel is reel.

Annie is strong in midlane and as support.

And Leona isn't a support? GTFO m8.

Gangplank support confirmed cuz of his E

His move speed boost rivals sona's, plus it comes with ad, so why not? By my definition of what _A _support is, he fits it. Same with Galio and his E.

** By my definition**

By YOUR definition. That's what YOU see support as. You don't need to push YOUR interpretation on to other people.

My definition was taken from a dictionary. So i fail to see legitimacy here.

Items help define supports too. items can buff team mates. hard cc provides peel too which you cant put a price on and can often be more useful than a shield or heal.

Xizagu1 votes

In regards to items: Yes, that is very true. My issue is that an annie running sightstone, mobi boots, rabadons, ludens, zhonyas and rod of ages is not a support character, she is a suppressing mage. As I said, ANY CHAMP IN THE GAME can be used in the support ROLE, but it does not make them a support.

In regards to peel and CC: peeling can be done by anyone, half the time i find myself peeling/baiting enemies as the adc. Sure, I may die, but my team gets an ace. Peel does not make a champ support. CC i a suppressant to the enemy, not an action that supports allies.

Leona's passive increases allied damage. I disagree with you, mostly because it's the way you play a champion that defines the role, not the champion you play. For example, Nautilus has nothing to give to allies, yet he can be played as a support by using his abilities to keep enemies off of the carries instead of using them to engage on the enemies.

Xizagu1 votes

Ah, i forgot about her passive. That's a valid point there.

That's actually somewhat the point I'm making, the support role can be filled by anyone, but that doesn't inherently make the champion a support. Annie is a mage and only a mage, but that doesn't mean you can't put her in the support role.

So we agree? It's how you play the champion, not the champion themselves.

Xizagu1 votes

My point is there's difference between a champion that is inherently supportive and then just using a champ in the support role. Annie is not inherently supportive. People claim that her ONE STUN makes her a support. My point is by that logic then any champ with a stun is a support. The reason i posted this was because my team asked me to do Annie support, I didn't want to because I don't like using her on support, their only argument was that she has a stun. So I picked Amumu on support. He has a stun and a root, ergo better support than Annie on the logic of one stun. I got mass reported by my team for trolling even we won bot lane HARD and won game. My final KDA was 1-2-24. That's a pretty damn good score for a support, but I was still considered a troll. I want someone to explain why Annie with her one stun is an acceptable support when other champions aren't. NO ONE has given valid points as to that.
