Guinsoo's Rageblade..... some suggestions

So as most people are aware right now, Guinsoo's Rageblade is kind of stupidly broken still. My suggestion is to cut the bonuses on hit by half. Why by half? Why not less, say 25%? Well hear me out, I feel that if it is an overnerf, that's better than where we are now. As we should be aware, not many champs should even build the item, if not for how insanely gold efficient it is. In addition most champions taking it and seeing success are the ones that attack fast anyway, XinZhao ,KogMaw ,Corki ,Jax ,MasterYi ,Udyr . Just to list a few champions who I've seen use it and wreck shop. Now, yes they do have to hit a person with their attacks for it to become a beast, but let's be honest, most of those champions are using other attack speed items too, and probably more than one if I'm being perfectly honest.

It's because of the AS stacking that happens with this item that I am saying that it should be nerfed, have the on hit stacks stack less damage and attack speed. But why? Again, it goes back to the insane attack speeds that happen with it, you only need it and about two more items to get close to the 2.5 AS cap. It'd still be a great item for champs who are split in AD and AP for scalings, like Jax, bot not be a super powered weapon that it is now, in which you benefit if you play a champion that relies on Basic Attacks at all. The champions that don't use this weapon are those who are AP and those who are assassins generally (rengi, Kha, talon, zed, etc.), or tanks.

Now I want to be clear here. I'm not bitching about this weapon because I don't like it at all. I just feel that this weapon is a little too gold efficient for how cheap it is. For less than it costs to build one of the Hydras, you can get a weapon that can shred your opponents if you happen to auto attack a lot. I hate complaining about items, but this one definitely needs a nerf, it should be good, but it should mainly benefit those with split scalings on their abilities and work with other split items like Hextech gunblade. I think part of the problem is that it is one of the only hybrid items that exists and is designed to benefit those champions who really are hybrids. So I think maybe more hybrid items should be made with those champs like Jax in mind to bring a new type of build that makes hybrid champions able to take full advantage of their split scalings, and hopefully leading to some rewarding plays thanks to some (hopefully) well designed and thought through hybrid items.

Rage Blade's damage is not the actual problem. Unless it is paired with Devourer, most Rage Blade builds have comparable late game power in contrast with the regular builds.

Rage Blade's main problem is that it is too effective with Devourer, and that it allows a lot of late game champions to hit their power spike at an earlier time. Jax has been my primary champion for ranked since season 4 and frankly, he has always been this strong.

The difference is that now he gets to that level of power with significantly less gold. Before, he had to farm enough for the most expensive item in the game, Tri-Force, and then farm another ~3k for BoTRK. Now, he can get Rage Blade followed with Gun Blade, and hit the same peak with around 2k less gold.

That appears extremely overpowered on paper; champions with unparalleled late game power can now reliable reach their zenith during the mid game. However, Rage Blade comes with a huge caveat: it needs to be stacked. You may think I am crazy, but consider this. A Jax with 0 rage blade stacks fights a Jax with Tri-force. The Tri-force Jax will win 100% of the time.

Yes, melee champions can stack Rage Blade in 4 auto attacks, but Rage Blade only becomes gold efficient after 1 stacks. Most items are efficient right off the bat, that means that in the span of 1 or 2 AAs, the enemy will have an advantage. Of course, at max stacks Rage Blade reaches a pinnacle of slot efficiency, but before that, the sum of the stats on the item will be comparable to other items, and not all champions can use AD, AS, and AP effectively.

When I play normal games by myself against Gold and Plat players, most of them know to stay away from a Rage Blade user once it is stacked. Only when I queue with my lower ELO friends do I see people trying to fight me when I have 8 stacks. (And proceed to flame me for playing broken champion) Just take a look at Jax's, Xin's and Kog's win rates. They aren't as spectacular as they should be if Rage Blade is really that over powered.

Udyr, Yi, and Corki always have had high win rates, but the only champion that actually benefits from Rage Blade out of the 3 is Yi. Statistically according to Champion.gg Udyr and Corki win more often if they don't build Rage Blade.

Rage Blade does not necessarily need a stat nerf. I believe the following changes will be enough.

  1. Devourer can no longer double proc Rage Blade.
  2. Rage Blade can only be stacked up to a maximum of 4 stacks on minions.

That way, it will prevent champions from abusing the absurd gold-efficiency of Rage Blade at max stacks, or worst, with devourer. Rage-blade will still reach its full power in a fight, but it will give the opponent a much fairer battle.

It doesn't need its stats reduced. It needs its cost increased.
