I love playing support, but ranked games ruin it for me

I pretty much began my League 'career' as an AD Carry, A role I thought was exciting and useful, as well as loving what the AD champions had to offer. I've ventured through many roles within the games, settling on mostly maining AD and that of a support role. As much as I love healing and shielding I've completely avoided playing support in ranked games and stick to having fun with it in Normal mode. I'm fairly good at support, and even carried my team to victory many a'time. It's a role I really love playing, yet ruined. Here's why

  • I am a far superior support than I am AD Carry, yet I shy away from the role due the seen lack of importance in ranked games, coming to the point where I'm having my team demand 'I do something useful and stop warding'. Like okay, just run blindly into a Zed and Yasuo, whatever xD.
  • Each time I've played support in ranked I've been hurdled with abuse numerous times, I've even been blamed for the death of my AD Carry whilst respawing, them thinking I was AFK. Apparently oblivious to the rest of the team. -ADCs do stupid things! okay yes I'll admit I'm not perfect yet I am safe, I will not risk my life for your stupid decisions, Again do not blame me for you death. -Apparently I am also a mega super killing machine, hey Soraka with 88 attack damage and 90 Ability power, take out 5 enemies on your own. -And probably the thing that has completely put me off is being blamed for the AD's terrible performance, as it's your fault you died twice protecting them. A case study of this; being harassed an entire game by my Ashe because whilst I died for her by running in front, I also tipped the lane 'apparently'. Leading to a x9 report constant harassment. I'll repeat, I died once, the entire game, for them. I feel supports do face quite a brunt, yes we are there to protect and bring you out of danger, but please just us your initiative, help us to help you, and don't hurdle abuse in my direction, it only makes me want to help you less. Anyone else feeling the same? Tips on dealing with other's behaviour? DISCLAIMER I have very much a clouded personal view as I've only played ranked support a handful of times, Yet I see behaviour like this is almost every ranked game (regardless of role). Further disclaimer, I'm not new to ranked games, and climbed to Diamond in yester-years, I've been playing since beta. The role of support is a newbie for me

Prove yourself a capable Support and your team will call you a god. Everybody sucks at first and everybody has bad games, so ignore the naysayers and just learn from your own mistakes.

When I was in low Silver I'd frequently have teammates that wouldn't follow up on my aggression or wouldn't back off when they were dangerously extended. As you climb you'll get less of this and your team will be able to complement your support and vice versa, but for the moment it's probably pretty harsh on a Support like Soraka or Janna that relies so heavily on their team. You can either rough it out, or you can pick up a Support that deals a ton of damage and is practically a carry with a Sightstone (most anything but those two and the tanks).

If you are being harassed, don't hesitate to mute them. Their reports will not hurt you if you don't validate them by responding with toxic behavior of your own. Not doing so will only serve to tilt you or get you punished.
