Just wanted to dedicate a thread to Sona, who has carried me out of the abyss of Silver and continues to reward me handily in Gold.

I've always been super strong at support but felt held back too regularly by having "carries" who simply can't/don't know how to carry. Sona can actually carry a game. I often will be top damage or at least top 2 w/ her and really feel like my team is on my back most of the game in many games I play.

Team still rarely recognizes because they think "LOLZ SPPORT CANT CARRY", but feels better than actually being powerless to change the course of a game when the other 4 players don't know wtf they're doing.

People at low elo dont realize how much damage she does and its silly. She is also very easy to play and learn so it makes for a good champ to climb lower elos. I just need to do this myself, i just dont play ranked XD

Sona is even stronger when people know how to abuse power chords and her AoE buffs.

A good E passive can chase shit and even force enemies to possibly throw. A good W passive in lane can throw off enemy carries. A good Q aura can turn botlane into a living hell for the enemy laners, and a good W shield actually saves people from ignites.

My gf loves playing sona and im always suprised when she q auto ults someone for 90% of their hp.

Uh, Son a is THE support carry. If she wasn't made of paper mache early game she'd be ridiculous right now. Don't get me wrong, she's in a weird spot right now, and her abilities have seriously bass ackward scaling (0.5% increases for 1% missing health? UWutM8?) but it's offset by the fact that her Q hits like a nuclear tipped freight train, and the new masteries are INSANE on her.

I would politely disagree with the people saying she's "easy" to play. I think a lot of getting use out of her is effectively managing power chords, and having a true mastery of her range and being able to poke safely (as she is incredibly squishy and can actually die in 1-2 hits from any fed champ).

That being said, I do think you can do fairly well w/ her without mastering these things, but because of her squishiness it'll only take you so far.

Also, she's sexy.

Well, doing the most damage in a game as support is good and all, but if you want to focus more on helping your team I would highly recommend going athenes because the new passive is op on her and the shields and heals are so strong

I think people tend to over exaggerate her bases in early game (does decent damage because of lower health pools and no MR items or true inherent tankiness) while also neglecting that she has pretty mediocre scaling through mid and late without Lich and Luden's.

She's a good support if you've learned when to be aggressive and when to be cautious, and where (positioning is probably one of the most important things while playing Sona). Otherwise she's a below average support with mediocre scalings and awful health, defense and MS and requires you to play around her few strengths to be effective(early game damage, arguably the best burst on a support/people tend to overlook any damage she does, shines in teamfights).

Just what ive learned over the years of playing too much Sona.

How do you handle laning against leona as her? I'm fine with Sona in any other matchup, but I always manage to feed at least 2 kills in lane against leonas. I was playing her a few days ago, and I was thinking "just play safe and don't die" the whole time, but I still managed to feed (we won the game and I didn't die after laning phase, but I still had 2 unnecessary early deaths).

Any advice, or does leona just counter sona?

I don't play Sona supp, but I do play carry supps. I find the 'healer in an RPG' supp (that does no damage and stands beside their warrior) to be a useless mechanic. Rather a "Red Mage" as a supp than a "White Mage" and I prefer a "Fighter" over a "Red Mage."

It might be better at higher ELO to be an ineffective 'protect the ADC at all cost" Janna or Lulu--but I prefer to be a Rammus or Irelia kind of supp--the kind to jump on their ADC and Supp and walk out like--'I needed gold.'

It's hard to do poorly with a champion who has no skillshots except for one AREA EFFECT hard cc.
