I need help deciding what to pick as one of my 3 mid-lane champs, which includes Aurelion Sol ad Ahri. I tried Xerath and Vel'Koz and honestly Xerath felt more fun, but I searched outdated forums which all of them say that vel'koz is better. So I would like to know who I better currently Xerath or Vel'Koz.
Emojay3 votesWhichever you feel more comfortable with. Don't always trust forums. For example, most people on lol board forums, are all heartless monsters. So ya, pick which you feel more comfortable with. Personally, I recomend having FOUR. So you could do both.

jo99011 votesWell, theres a number of mid laners that can support. Vel'koz can support, and i've seen a few Xeraths's as well. Heck, even A Sol has a little potential as support, but it's probably not a good idea.

Vanic9981 votesHe is not more dependent on AP. The rework made it better on him. You can build the same old build on him and still deal the same if not more damage than the old VELKOZ. The AP scaling increase far outweighs the base damage decrease to his passive and ult.

Velkoz used to be able to. But since he relies so heavily on expensive AP builds to get shit done, he's far less effective.
Personally I'd go vel as others have said. But a simpler alternative to velkoz is ziggs, who has a very similar kit but without the true damage.
Velkoz doe simply far more reliable than xerath because 3 of his hit boxes are large and fast. Whereas xerath's w is highly telegraphed and his ults hitbox is tiny and difficult to land.
Based on your interest in vel, asol and ahri. Purely based on observation and knowledge of us low elo players, it appears you plan on maining high win rate champs, as all 3 of them are up there.
If you plan on mid, start small. It may seem cheap to win as annie, ziggs or malz. But you'll have a much easier time finding mistakes, maintaining a reliable performance and in turn improving. Because you won't be able to view the only mistake as "missed skillshot".

AwareChill1 votesThx for the advice but to be honest I would like to play these champs cause they're fun, Sol is my main, and I have carried many teams recently with him, Ahri as well when I was playing her for free.
To be honest I usually play champions that are fun and I know its sounds weird but even being a low elo player I play purely on instinct, I have carried games once I entered into my "zone", and sometimes champions synergise with me.
Like xerath, but based on these comments I'll consider , the only thing I don't like about him is his Q, its just so awkward.

Phantom Italian2 votesAs a Vel Koz main let me just say that yes, his Q is awkward to learn. But once you figure it out, it is one of the best zoning tools in the game. For sup or mid you can deny them ever feeling safe. It can also get you kills you normally couldn't get with it's angling. It's so triggering. Xerath is good, but I think Vel is a little less vulnerable in the laning phase. Vel is also better for team fights just because his ult is easier to land. And when you got them stacks....oh it's so juicy. His Q also makes getting creep easier because it refunds the mana

jo99011 votesWell, personally, i'd say vel'koz, but that's cause i've been using him since i started playing. I also play A Sol and just picked up ahri. I like Xerath as well, but I find vel'koz much easier. And with the true damage on his ult, he's really good even when behind.

Just play the champ you have more fun with and understand the kit better. Below Diamond, it's far better to be skilled with a sub-optimal pick than to pick exactly the right champ but lacking experience and familiarity with it.
DrCyanide1 votesI personally like Xerath more. The ranged poke which can travel through minions/tanks is very useful for suggesting your enemies back away from a tower you're sieging, and the ultimate range can be helpful for assisting in team fights that were started when you weren't there yet.

Vel'Koz is better teamfighter tho, he is also easier to play and forgives more.
Xerath can carry so fucking hard and tilt enemy to death. He is more annoying to deal with. But It is balanced with being one of the hardest champions in the game.
You can kill full HP ADC from +5000 range with only ultimate, not even 5th is needed. I killed a Lucian who had full stacked Bloodthirster shield with only 4 arcane barrages. His ultimate deals insane, much more than Syndra ultimate, but harder.
In this meta, I highly recommand Liandry + Deathfire Torch. Thunderlord's Decree is useless shit.
AwareChill1 votesYeah I noticed, thunderlords is only as good for beginners, most mages just need Deathfire touch and (maybe) Liandrys to get a lot of kills, I had my Sol with the masteries and got significantly more kills
