The New Maokai: A Possible Change
I really like the new Maokai and I think he has great potential for big plays along with consistency. The one issue I have with it is that he seems a little too strong, specifically his sapling throw. I was playing a flex game with some friends and we started losing hard. The enemy Lucian got very far ahead and brought the rest of the team with him. No one was able to do consistent damage except the support Maokai and myself, a Warwick. But we were able to win largely due to my friend playing Maokai, and myself. He built mostly AP, but not full AP, and was still able to do the most damage in the game. This came from saplings. He would put two of them in a bush and if someone walked in they would nearly die. This along with his ult allowed him to do far more damage than anyone else in the game including the 28 kill opposing Lucian. I think this could be a possible place to change. If it were not possible to put two saplings in the same bush it would stop a bit of Maokai's damage without changing the play style of the champion. The change I would propose is to make it so any additional saplings did not grow after the first one in a specific bush. That or any subsequent saplings would walk out of the bush. The plus to this second option would be a possible mind game to play with the opponent. If they see a sapling outside of a bush is there another one in the bush that will chunk them or is it a ruse? I would like to hear any feedback on these possible options. Whether anyone thinks they could work or not.
