Honor system doesn't stay active long enough

Warning Shot··60 votes·2,302 views

I'm one of many who after the change to the new client has the option selected to close client during the game.

This means that after every game my client has to reopen itself. More often than not by the time the client opens I don't have enough time left to decide who to honor and it self closes itself.

Either remove the honor prompt closing automatically or make the timer MUCH longer. You already force us to use this new client, now you're forcing us to not be able to honor anyone the way it is currently.

Damn you must have it bad. It gives me a 30 second window wich by that time i know who i wana commend. I know why they wana get it done in that time. To give players the flare for having the 3 commends.

yeah 30 seconds, and in that time i have to wait for the client to actually open + try to honor someone. usually by the time client opens i don't even get the chance to throw an honor, let alone actually decide what type of honor to give who.

Your client has to open? Then you must be doing something very wrong. Might want to look at the settings and uncheck the "Close client during game" mark.

Game is unplayable without having that selected because the new client uses up 90~ of cpu alone.

Then get a new computer :)

As much as this could be downvoted, I agree, Riot can't support endlessly your prehistoric junk, one day you have to upgrade anyway.

Edit: Yeah, it doesn't change new software has problems to be solved.

This isnt really an excuse when games like DotA 2 which are much more graphically intense work on older computers. The new client is just poorly built - and thats the flat truth.

I've seen comments from people who have brand new 800$ machines who have the same problem, its a software issue, not a hardware issue, leagues client is a steaming pile of shit.

Sukishoo7 votes

I have yet to have any issues with any of the clients league has had. So, pretty sure it's the player not the game :)

Awoof3 votes

That's a line of thought a little child would have.

Not saying you are one, but maybe you can see where it is wrong.

SailorPsycho3 votes

Maybe you're the one that's wrong? If they haven't had issues, then it's still not the game.

As much as this statement is true normally it doesn't apply to this specific problem. There should be no problem for the devs to wait for the Client to be fully loaded and visible and then starting the timer...

Give me $800 and I won't have that problem. "Then get a new computer" LOL. No shit that would be the most sensible...

RavenMagus3 votes

While a better computer would solve some of those problems... it's a fact that the League client still takes up a ridiculous amount of resources.

Electro5221 votes

How much league do you play on any given day? I ask because I've noticed that the longer the client runs, the harder it is on the computer. It takes maybe 5 to 6 games before i notice a drop in my framrate. Once that does happen, i restart the client before the next game, and everythings fine.

SanKakU2 votes

That seems more like an excuse than a reason for it to time out. Did they specifically mention this is why they didn't want players going AFK or whatever and wanted them to do the honoring quickly? At any rate, I guess it's not a big deal, just something people will need to get used to if they want to participate in the honoring of other players.

Warning Shot5 votes

Going to ignore the comments that are not talking about the original topic of the post. This is not a " argue about old client or new client" post. this is a " we need more time to give people honors" post.

DarkRitual5 votes

They could also move that to the actual game's victory/defeat screen, then you wouldn't need to wait for the client to reopen for it.

KirotheImmortal3 votes

Ima up this cuz i think there should be attention here however im not sure if its going to be done.

SanKakU3 votes

I already mentioned in another thread but yeah you're noticing it too, the honor a teammate option times out and even if you just want to go to the bathroom or something, you'll miss your chance to honor someone.

Old client was so much better...none of this "open new client" bullshit.

yep, they should'a left it as a " no new updates " but still usable.

I'm not sure why they just ditched the legacy client. It was so good! Just looks outdated, but the functionality of it was great...Sigh ~~

AwesomeGuyDj3 votes

They already said why, it was harder and outdated for them to ship updates. And things like achievement icons? People had to hand those out manually before, so that allowed them to automate things like that.

Dr Poro2 votes

Well that's not really plausible because some changes have gameplay impact. When the new runes come around, you can't really say "I'll stick with the old ones, thanks." So Riot would have to put them into the old client aswell.

They should work on the time it takes for the client to open again. It's way too long.

If they'd left it as an 'optional' upgrade, you could not queue ranked/draft mode at this point. (because 10 ban system is using new tec, old one couldn't support)

Or get tokens for Vs. event.

Also, probably couldn't even use the new honor system at all, as it is part of the new client tec. They would have had to make completely different set of GUI stuff for old client, if they wanted it on the old client. Which may not have been possible with AIR's shit coding.

Not saying it doesn't suck for people in your case, but try to think of it from the other side. All this new stuff we've gotten in after client update, is not just new stuff they decided to do now. It's stuff they can do now, because they have the tec for it.

I have my client close too and haven't missed out on honoring people yet because of it. I normally have 30 or so seconds left when my client comes back.

EvilMerodach2 votes

Buy a small SSD and put Leauge client on that. Client should load super fast even on a toaster.

underscores2222 votes

In the time it takes for your client to open, you can be thinking about who to honor for what. Heck, even during the match you can get an idea of which player you want to honor. It shouldn't take too long in the end game screen to honor someone.

DemainaNyx2 votes

Yeah, extend the time. I mean, why even kick us out of that screen in the first place? If I want to stare at the "Honor a teammate" screen, why shouldn't I be able to?

FurriesAreHot1 votes

I don't know if its because I run all my stuff on an SSD, but it loads fine for me.

MonkeyMadness1 votes

So don't close your client during game? Problem solved...

Cavesloth1 votes

There are bugs that make it so you HAVE to use that option.

MonkeyMadness2 votes

Please enlighten me I know nothing of this.

Cavesloth2 votes

There's a bug that makes where after a game you can only see a tiny rectangle of the top left of the client (everything else disappears), and you have to close league from the task manager. If you use "close client during game" it fixes it, but then it takes literally forever and a day to get back to the post game screen. Hence this guys post.

My post is actually because leaving the client open uses up 90% of my cpu while in game. So i have to close it. the game itself is not resource intensive at all, but the client is. All this is going to get though is more " hue hue buy a better computer" people, when the fact is that the time they alot for us to honor people simply isn;t long enough right now for many reasons. what if i need to go take a piss, what if im getting up to do something, what if i just alt tabbed after my game and them remembered that i should go back and honor someone? tons of different reasons, but the point is that the time they give us simply isn't long enough.

Frankly I'm not sure why anyone is arguing against it because if they are honoring just fine then its not like they have to look at the honor screen longer if this change is made? they're just arguing to argue.

Welcome to the board man, that seems to be the bread and butter around here, contrarians arguing to argue, and people with OBVIOUS suggestions you can't use. Get better comp, what a crock right? It's like you gonna pay my bills buddy (why do you think i play this game? Cause I'm poor and its free and runs on low end machines, DUH)? I don't live with mommy and daddy who buy me a new Alienware rig every year kid. Millenials SMH.

Pretty much this.

I had the same problem, easy fix, as it closes the champ select screen and transitions to the loading screen just open a new league (if you aren't quick enough just alt tab out, still works), this tricks the game, and eliminates the problems/bugs that cause you to have to use "close client during game" (at least for me it does). Fair warning though, it bugs out the ability to resize the client back to right size after a game (another bug thats been there since launch, thanks riot).

Hope this helps man, since Riot won't help you.
